Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Booked a table for 4 for Sunday lunch. The pub was full to busting as the rugby was on and our reserved table was right by the TV. It was so noisy, it was impossible to chat. Thankfully it was a reasonable day and we...sat outside for our meal but this would have been awful if it had been raining. The roast was lovely, between us we had lamb, beef and turkey. Proper roasties and an individual ramekin of cauliflower cheese each, plus seasonal veg. The selection of puddings wasn’t great and not as advertised online but we were all stuffed anyway! It does say on their website to check these when booking. You need to order at the time of booking too. Roasts between £17-20 per head. Will also cater for vegans with 24 hours notice.More

On holiday in the area. Had a lovely meal with good service and nice surroundings. Particularly recommend the onion bhajis. Reasonably priced as well.

Dropped into the country pub while enjoying a sunny Sunday in the glorious Kent countryside. Being a vegetarian I was, at first, very disappointed to see that on Sundays all they serve at lunchtime is 'Sunday Roast'. However, on being told the very accommodating guy...said 'let me check' and talked to the kitchen. 'We can do you a vegetable pie with all the roast trimmings' he said. I was not that happy and said 'they always come full of things I don't like, like carrots'... 'but I've no choice'. The guy came back to say they would do one without carrot! A very pleasant pint of bitter shandy later dinner arrived. The 'pie' was a ramekin with sliced potatoes as a lid, and the filling consisted of a sauce with peas, sweetcorn and leak and was delicious. The trimmings were a perfect Yorkshire, roasties, stuffing, broccoli and another ramekin with excellent cauliflower au gratin. We ate in the beer garden in the sun. I went from disappointment to delight as this unpretentious meal was just delicious... and I enjoyed every bite as did my carnivorous wife and sister :-) I'll definitely be back to try their weekday menu!More

Family group of five went for lunch. Great atmosphere! Warm and cosy pub with lovely Christmas lights and tree - plus a log fire blazing away. Lovely kind host, very friendly, and the food was fantastic. We had the dish of the day, which was...a very tasty meat pie made with rump steak and no fat. Also a chicken curry. Large portions, beautifully cooked and really well presented. One of the best pub meals we've had in ages. Tucked away in the countryside but a real treasure.More

Visited on a Saturday night. Online it states that they are open until 11:30. Arrived at ten minutes to ten. ‘Greeted’ by a slightly impatient and mumbling bartender who firstly said it was about to be last orders so we had to be quick, then...thirty seconds later informed us last orders had been and gone. (I suppose that some might be able to forgive his agitation, what with three separate tables to attend to). I asked what time they closed, he said in twenty minutes time (closing time of 10:10?). Not certain about The Local policy on last orders, but I assume that most people are capable of ordering and consuming a drink within 20 minutes. Really squandered a Chartham night out for us. I suggest that they review their closing procedures as well as their customer service. Is this the kind of world we want to live in? The kind of Chartham we want to live in? Last orders pre-ten o’clock? Unnecessary confusion and rancour. Not the kind of welcome community spirit one might seek in an establishment entitled The Local.More

Best curry in Canterbury! Lovely family run business… with very attentive staff. The food was absolutely delicious. We had tapas to start and then curries for main… all of it was so tasty and the flavours were just amazing. Highly recommend this place if you...haven’t tried it! Oh and the Billy Bosch red wine was, well let’s just say, I wish I could have stayed and had a third bottle!!!More

I called at 3 pm on a Sunday on the off chance of a table for 4. They managed to accommodate us without it being an issue, unlike some other places. We had beef and chicken roasts. Even though we were squeezed in the standard...and quantity of the food and service were faultless. Such lovely care taken with the produce, really well done to the cooks/chefs. Imagine eating a really good version of what you could only hope to cook at home, comforting, proper food. The kids had Oreo and kinder bueno ice cream sundaes which made their eyes pop out with joy. Never seen them eat so much. Thank you guys, we won’t be leaving it so long again before our next visit.More

Huge well done to the Local on Thursday evening. 72 hours after the change in licensing law, they had adapted the pub. You need to book a table, face coverings must and we’re worn everywhere until you are seated. As you enter, you scan track...and trace app. Menu is on a QR reader. Obviously with its reputation, curry is a must and last nights beef curry didn’t disappoint, and if you like curry’s, Curry Pizza is amazing (patent it now!) The service as always is so friendly and welcoming, great array of beers and excellent wines, in at the right time last night to test out the draft Pornstar Martini!!!👍 And to make the evening perfect; after the success of EOToHO Scheme, they are offering 25% off the TOTAL bill on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday! Book quick to avoid, We are blessed with this gem on our doorstep that is the heart of the community and is building up a great reputation further afield.More

I have been running pubs for 30 years. I would say I have a fair idea of what a good pub is. I have also lived in Chartham for 20 years. I can safely say The Local is a very good pub. The pub has...an excellent range of beers and ales. It also has great wines and spirits too. However, tonight that was by the by as I had a takeaway. Our pizzas were superb. The residents of Chartham are very lucky to have such a good "local"More
