Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

So glad we gave The Gate another chance after a couple of very disappointing visits. Our lunch was delicious and the ladies were very friendly and accommodating! The old place still has plenty of character, and the photo album of the pub in times gone...by was a lovely touch. We will definitely be back soon. 👌👌👌More

We’re so glad that we arranged to stop here during a work hike. A real family run feel. The location is adorable and the staff very friendly and relaxed. Food lovely, very generous portions, great prices. All 14 of us were well taken care of...and great lunch stopMore

Great family run pub, wonderful atmosphere and very welcoming with small children. We went for lunch and were not disappointed, excellent pub grub at an excellent price. I would highly recommend!

Soulless, uninteresting with heart radio playing 90’s club music! Completely missing the point of a village country pub, such a shame. Food tasteless, served by child aged about 7. Spotlessly clean

We booked for the Valentines evening which was a 3 course meal and a bottle of Prosecco or wine for 2 people at £48.95 (we would have paid £48.95 each for what we got)! We arrived and they had set all the tables up with...candles, confetti, love heart napkins.. the full works. We even got a cupcake and some chocolates with our bill. The staff were lovely, and they are dog friendly. But most importantly the food was amazing. It is not often we are impressed by food but they’ve certainly won us over. We also added 3 coke’s onto our bill which were a lot cheaper than other places we’ve been to. They appear to be a family run business as their children were around and talking to customers which was really nice. This will absolutely be our new place to go. You will not be disappointed!More

Very welcoming and friendly landlady and staff, very pleased to see that this old pub is moving with the times but has still managed to keep much of the old character I remember from many years ago. My wife and I had a lovely lunch...and are now looking forward to returning in the future now that it has finally got landlords that take pride in looking after their customers.More

Where was everybody? My wife and I have just enjoyed a lovely lunch in one of our old favourite pubs. However we were the only customers in there on a beautiful but cold day. After Chris Smith left the pub, a succession of publicans had...lowered the whole atmosphere of a brilliant pub and I expect many people are saying, “Never again”. My advice would be to give it another go…I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. We had a very warm welcome from two lovely ladies who are, rightly, very proud of the pub. It was warm with a lovely log fire and comfortable seating. We ordered from the simple lunch menu and when the food came, it was excellent and the drinks were perfect. The newly refurbished toilets were immaculate and modern( they used to be pretty grim). When we came to pay the bill, we found it hard to believe what a bargain it all was. The Gate has its mojo back and all it needs is for past customers, and new, to visit and enjoy.More

Possibly the best village pub anywhere, ever! Open fire, the warmest of welcomes, spotlessly clean, 5* toilets, super food and real ale, straight from the barrel! (And a draft lager range that includes such gems as Singha). GO THERE!!!!

Visited a weekday afternoon for a quick bite to eat after a long dog walk. Sat in the garden and had a couple of drinks, a baguette/sandwich and the burger from the specials menu. The service was quick and friendly, the sandwich was very nice...but the burger was superb. The new owners have made a huge difference and should be commended . Would definitely recommend this delightful pub.More

Lovely little country pub! We’ve been twice now, both times we’ve thoroughly enjoyed it! We can’t wait to come back more often! The inside of the pub is very cosy and welcoming, outside the beer garden is lovely to sit in all evening Food always...fresh and hot, very tasty too and very well priced given the cost of living crisis currently! A very warm and welcoming family run pub! We especially love the escapee dog!More

We spent a number of evenings here during our holiday. We enjoyed Sunday lunch, evening dinners, drinks snd snacks. Its great for families, friends or couples, having a great garden and inside is so warm and welcoming. Very dog friendly too... We were given a...bowl of water each for our 2 dogs! This place really made our holiday and we will be visiting again soon.More
