Have visited this pub a number of times and always pleased with the atmosphere, food and choice at the bar. Excellent traditional pub decor, lots of seating and friendly staff. The menu is always pretty decent with a good selection of specials each time I've been, and generous portions. An interesting selection of largers and ales on tap means I've... More

we called in advance to ask about vegan food ahead of a family visit. Upon arriving the options were explained to us and it was nice to have a few options to choose from. The food was in keeping with that of a traditional pub, serving soup, olives & breads, veggie sausages & mash, curry and ratatouille with a choice... More

We visit frequently because the pub is a delight to visit, is welcoming, has excellent bar staff and the service is best of breed! We had sunny day in the garden with the dog, bursting with people in the front and back gardens, can't get better than this! I recommend this pub- you won't be disappointed.

After a lovely walk around the roman ruins this was a lovely pub to stop and have lunch. The food and service was fine and I would definitely return and recommend this pub

We called in advance and arranged for some vegan food to be available. When we arrived the staff were helpful and took time to explain what was available to us. There was a small choice of dishes for vegans, rather than just a "take it or leave it" option. The food wasn't bad - just what I'd expect from a... More

We visited for dinner the other evening and the atmosphere and service have improved since our last visit. I had the lasagne with garlic bread and a little salad. The portion was huge and it was tasty, but a teeny bit stodgy. Husband had steak with a peppercorn sauce which came with chips, a field mushroom, tomato and onion rings.... More

We went for a nice lunch. We were presented with a rock-hard sausage with a watery mash awash with gravy. The Steak and Ale Pie was also overcooked and the meat burnt lumps of charcoal. The chef can not have any standards to allow either or both of those dishes out of the kitchen. So the offer of "something else"... More

I've been many times and keep returning! I have had a lacklustre meal once or twice, but generally the food has been excellent. The decor and atmosphere is nice. Great place for a drink or meal!

For too long this pub has been renowned for its dreadful food & service. Delighted to say that's all changed! Enjoyed a wonderful home made lasagne here last night. 8 of us in our group & every single meal was excellent. Keren & Stu the new landlords have transformed the place!

Feel defrauded by the good reviews here, the food is abysmal! Kids burger.. hard to imagine how you could over cook gristle that much. Ham eggs and chips.. ham woefully over cooked. Rack of lamb was just fat with and the broccoli a sad grey green mush. Staff didn't really seem to give a damn the food was awful. Won't... More
