Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

As Olney locals, we have eaten at The Bull a number of times and always enjoyed the food. Unfortunately, my most recent experience was embarrassing and I'm unsure whether we'll return. Our reservation had been pre-booked, so we were a little disappointed when we were...told as we sat there would be long wait for food service. If we ordered starters, they would try to get them to us as soon as possible. Asked if it was a staffing issue, we were surprised to be told that the Manager was known for booking many large tables at the same time and the kitchen always struggled. Could it be a greedy manager? Poorly managed, I suspect so. When we asked for the vegetarian menu, we were told that all options were on the main menu. I pointed out the website described the business and as vegetarian and vegan friendly, so questioned just one starter and one main? We were told that if we wanted to put some sides together or perhaps chose from the children menu (this was very obviously a meal for a adult) this was the best they could offer. It was then that we chose to get up and leave. The Bull Olney, I am embarrassed for you and suggest that you consider taking some pointers from The Cherry Tree just down the road.More

Stayed last night and couldn’t fault a thing. A really nice atmosphere in the bar area and the bar man was lovely I think he could of been called Tony?! The room was spotless (room 2) We didn’t have a evening meal as we was...going to a wedding but what we saw looked really nice. Breakfast was delicious! Hoping to come back in September for our wedding anniversary! Thank you for a lovely stay! Vicky and Tony Keen xMore

Stayed the night at the bill simply because it was on route between jobs . . Very impressed ! Fine old building refurbed sympathetically, lovely room, delicious brekky served by friendly staff and parking out the back ! . . All good. The only tiny...criticism would be that the floor in my room was a bit creeky . . But it’s the original exposed old oak floor and it looks mint . . So I’ll let them off !!More

We went for Sunday Lunch but service was slow, food was cold (plus a roast served on a bed of rosemary twig's was quite strange), drinks were expensive and half the drinks have been removed from the drinks menu. If you want to find out...what beer is on offer, the information is all at the bar. My wife didn't eat her roast as the rosemary was overwhelming but the staff didn't question anything. We order a chocolate fondant which came out collapsed and under-cooked. The whole thing was disappointing. Hopefully it was just a bad day.More

We have stayed here before last year but things have changed new owners I think staying for 2 nights Check in was OK as it should be we were in room 5 we had a couple of drinks in the bar no food i had...noticed that breakfast on Saturday was from 8.30 10.30 and as we were leaving early on the Saturday as we had a long drive home i asked if there any chance of a breakfast box or a sandwich to take with as ,As we had paid for breakfast but nothing was forthcoming and we got nothing not great as I have type 2 Dietetics, first night we were very tired so went to bed early. Next morning went for breakfast and to say we were disappointed I a understanding no bread or Danish pasta or cereal to have all taken away now as for the full English it was not great only 1 bit of toast cut in half ,no bread but a ton of butter why I don't know. The Bacon was very poor cheap stuff half a tomato baked beans very dry so I fact gald we didn't have breakfast next day. But what may me very cross is we left a note for 4 hot chocolate drinks to be left in our room as I don't drink tea or coffee they had left 2 the pervious day so only asking for 2 extra but no just left 2 had to speak to AGM lady who did apologise and gave as 8 packs very nice but you should not have to beg for a couple of hot chocolate drinks. Also as for room I don't know who Check the rooms as our toilet door did not close we had to put a empty toilet roll In the door to keep it close? And as for the bed cover was so full of lumps as I said was very tired first night so didn't notice it so maybe you should investigate it and maybe buy some new one's. Sorry to be so down o the bull Hotel but things are going the wrong way.??? And as a returning guests we have noticed it so other people will do as wellMore

We went for a meal today. The main course was nice, for dessert i ordered strawberry velvet cheesecake and my friend ordered sticky toffee sponge. Mine when it came i was disappointed, that was the smallest cheesecake i have ever had. And it wasn't velvet...cheesecake more like a chocolate mouse with strawberry in it and it cost £7. i would of expected a triangle shaped cheesecake.and that’s looks like more of a cheesecake that cheesecake is more for a very posh restaurant.not for a pub hotel. My friend didn't have enough sauce on hers so it wasn’t a sticky toffee pudding. You need to sort out your desserts very expensive for what they are. Staff was good, but your dessert let you down. I should of taken a photoMore

We came here last year for Sunday dinner was excellent, could not fault it. Today totally different story, staff nice but incredibly slow despite hardly any customers. Fish was tasteless, garnish painfully limp. Ordered Peach Tarte Tartin supposed to come with a quince brandy puree,...what we got was a breakfast like square pastry that looked like it had a couple of shallots on it. Could not taste peaches, was not a proper tarte tatin and no puree. It was similar to what you get for a £1 on supermarket shelves alongside croissants. There was no taste or likeness at all to a peach tarte tartin, so disappointed, I am afraid we will not be returning or recommending. I guess that explains why it was practically empty when we are used to hoping to get a seat. No presentation, could not taste tartar sauce, I would be ashamed to put that food out even in a greasy cafe. Chef is either clueless or does not care.More

The Bull was fantastic. We stayed for one night and were amazed at the friendly staff who really looked after you. From a warm welcome to engaging staff led by the manager, our meals were top notch and accompanied with local ales and super coffee....Our room was lovely and despite the busy road outside, the secondary glazing did a great job. A special mention to the member of staff who kept the beer garden free of any used glasses - a clear sign how well the hotel is run.More

Wide choice of beer, cordials, wines, spirits a d non alcoholic drinks to choose from, to suit all tastes. Mouthwatering menu...to select your meal or snack from also, which covers many dietary needs, including gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan. Myself and nineteen members of friends and family attended The Bull on a busy Saturday night for my mother in laws birthday celebrations. Due to the numbers of diners in our party the food was preordered. We found the staff to be friendly and efficient...and always willing to help. I cannot speak for all but all diners within our group appeared to enjoy the food. I certainly did, with the Beer-Braised Beef Brisket Arancini; caramelised shallot broth being particularly good. The only negative for me was the Banana Crème Brûlée, soft ginger cookie and lime toffee. Had a texture of baby food with a rather tasteless ginger cookie. However, it’s not put me off going back again in the near future.More
