I stayed for three days in this wonderful old pub. They have worked with the listed building and made sensitive improvements which retain the traditional setting. The rooms weee immaculate and interesting. Each room is named after a different cattle breed. The food was excellent...as was the beer. The best thing was the staff who were friendly and accommodating. Going back in July.More

I had to arrange a lunchtime venue for a family get-together, with family coming from as far afield as Canada. One of the party was vegan. The Bull was a great pick, a lovely bright venue with great staff and tasty food to serve all.

My wife and I went for lunch today. The waitress was friendly and smiley so a good start. We were seated reasonably quickly (it wasn’t overly busy for peak lunch time}. It was explained to us what they didn’t have available which was helpful. My...wife had a Caesar salad with chicken and the separate coleslaw which was recommended to us. I opted for a medium rare steak.with béarnaise sauce. No starters just main meals. We waited 45 mins for the food. The Caesar salad was okay but we would have expected the chicken to be warm. Also for £4 the chicken should be breast meat not thigh meat, particularly given how little there was. The coleslaw was delicious. The steak was over cooked and resembled a stewing steak - not seared nor particularly not. I’d also question the size as being nowhere near 10oz let alone 6oz. It came with lumpy bearnaise sauce, dedicated mushroom (warmed through how many times?0 and no lettuce as stated on the menu. I complained and was offered a complimentary dessert - brownie. (This was more a heated through very sweet splodge with ice cream) Overall, the kitchen staff are clearly undertrained - slow cooking, terrible quality food. The poor waiting staff were dealing with complaints about the slow service from neighbouring tables. We tipped only because the poor waiting staff were embarrassed and apologetic and deserved something for what they had to -it up with.More

Given a 1 star rating as the breakfast experience ruined our stay. The rroom and evening meal were fantastic BUT breakfast has to be the worse experience we have encountered. Continual breakfast was make your own toast and a choice of two cerals…..orange juice that...needed refilling…,..no pastries, no croissants, no selection of cold meats or cheeses Coffee and tea was not apparent, asked and got rudely told coffee was in a press top flask and hot water in an urn for tea…….coffee we had was disgusting and tasted burnt……oddly looking around other tables were offered coffee from the espresso machine, we weren’t even offered this coffee as alternative (even if we had to pay for it) After about 15mins of having toast someone came and took our order …..the selection on offer looked very appetising…..40 mins later and still no cooked breakfast arrived ….at this point we jus at got up and walked out …… went next door and had a lovely sausage and bacon sandwich. The breakfast they say is complimentary, as a customer we view the breakfast as part of the price and not complimentary……our experience made us feel as residents we were given a second rate serviceMore

Not a good experience. We waited an hour for our food. Then when it arrived my food was burnt beyond the point of being edible. They didn’t really seem that sorry, then took another 25 minutes to replace the meal by which time the my...friend had finished their meal. We’d have been better off going to the fish and chip shop across the road. In fairness they then didn’t charge for the replaced burnt meal but I’d still be incredibly pushed to go back.More

Had an early mid week supper here with my Brother. Easy to book a table on their website. Friendly greeting from hostess/waitress. We both had the fish cakes from the specials board. Absolutely delicious and must have been the chef’s favourite as they were made...with love and care and piping hot. As the restaurant got busier the two staff started to struggle but did their best with a genuine apology as we paid our bill. Very good value too - we’ll be back thank you 🙏More
