We chose this pub for its location as we normally use Woodstock when meeting distant friends and we were pleased we did. Friendly welcome in an informal setting but a little on the cool side, but it was freezing outside. The menu is small but...More

We travelled from Northamptonshire.. our New Year's Eve Lunch treat and were not disappointed. Small but perfectly cooked menu, super wine and a lovely vibe in the cosy delightful and inviting bar area ... the separate dining room looked equalling inviting too. Our visit set...More

Having moved to the area this summer with our young family, we have been looking for a favorite Sunday lunch pub. The Killingworth Castle is the best choice in the area for us, based on food, service, great beer and warm inviting welcome and environment....More

We arrived early and the eating area was quite empty. We chose a table and were given menus. The service was not especially sharp and soon became quite slow as numbers increased. The food chosen was fine apart from the mushy peas that had a...More

First visit, love!y food and friendly staff. Main menu a little out of our price range but lunch time sandwiches were very tasty and reasonably priced. A good stop off on the way to Blenheim Palace.

Met a friend here for lunch on a Friday and we sat in the main bar area. The menu is small but interesting, with all choices quiet expensive but I think that’s expected these days (£7.50 for a slice of cake dessert). Service was fine...More

What’s happened to the Killingworth Castle. Went for a drink 4pm on Saturday. The bar was quite quiet and a lady blatantly sat at the bar vaping. Isn’t that ILLEGAL???? The staff did nothing. Not impressed!

Just booked a last minute overnight stay in room 5 at Killingworth Castle and it was superb! Lovely room with nice touches - like the sherry! Food was divine. I had the salad starter, steak and pumpkin cheesecake; my wife had the mackerel starter and...More

They do a varied menu on a Sunday (eg fish and chips) so not just roasts - but I am not aware they do sandwiches. They often have soup as a starter...

We did not find circular walks, walked on the road through the village and out the other side and really did not explore footpaths.

The team behind the award-winning Ebrington Arms near Chipping Campden reopened The Killingworth Castle in Wootton, near Woodstock, Oxfordshire. Having been closed for nearly a year, Claire and Jim Alexander have refurbished every nook and cranny of this glorious, unspoilt 17th Century coaching inn which is ideally situated for Blenheim Palace, Woodstock, Bicester Village and the historic city of Oxford itself yet set on the edge of a beautiful countryside village. There are 8 recently refurbished ensuite letting bedrooms in the adjoining stable block with hand crafted kingsize beds, roll top baths and hand selected antiques, soft furnishings and art. The pub has been awarded 'Pub of the Year, 'Restaurant of the Year' and is now a buzzing and thriving place for foodies who come from far and wide to taste the British classic food which has been awarded a Michelins Bib Gourmand and an AA Rosette for the past 4 years. Expect a warm welcome and a happy mix of locals and tourists who relax together at the bar or find a cosy corner for a romantic meal.
