Stumbled upon this place close to our hotel on the evening of arrival in Venice. We were attracted by the number of diners compared to other places that were very quiet. We soon discovered that the majority of the other diners were Italians. Good sign. We were not disappointed. The only caution is to be aware of the large portions.... More

Having walked all day we were hungry! Passed this trattoria on our walk and decided to try it. At 7pm we were lucky to get a table, people were queuing and willing to wait. Clearly used by the locals which is always a good recommendation. We watched the food being cooked to order. Not an excessive choice of dishes which... More

Asked the waiter in the hotel where to eat like a Venetian and he said this place straight away. Busy and bustling. Lovely turbot and roast potatoes. Great starter of mixed seafood to share.

Restaurant was very close to where I was staying in venice, so we decided to try it. The food was nice, wine was good. No complaints.

The food was great at Antico Calice (particularly the mixed seafood pasta); however, the service was the worst that we experienced in Italy. Even when the restaurant was almost empty, the waiters were incredibly slow or our requests were totally ignored. It almost seemed as though they were going out of their way provide poor service. We eventually gave up... More

We visited this place for lunch, ordered lasagna and pasta with scallops. Food was good, the service was really bad. As we waited to pay at the cashier, he ignored us and served 3 other people first even though we waited right there in front of him. We tried to get the cashier attention, and he spoke to one of... Our tour guide recommended this restaurant so we arranged for our walking tour to finish here around 7pm. We scored one of the last tables and during the next 90 minutes countless people walked in looking for a table... that wasn't available. Very good pasta, slightly more expensive than I'd like once we were done with the wine and dessert... More

Pasta al nero di seppia is wonderful. Sea food antipasto is delicious. And their wine...is sooo good!

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
