Dropped in here for lunch during a country walk. The pub is pleasant enough as is the beer garden, but the food is bottom-end pub grub, which could be forgiven if it was priced to match; sadly it isn't. £15.50 for a handful of freezer...chips, a handful of something called 'whole tail scampi' which were miserable frozen fish bites from some cheap cash n carry, and some peas. It wasn't pleasant eating. This was our second visit after poorish dinner experience a few years ago. Definitely the last.More

Thank you for sharing your experience, but I’m sorry to read that you were not happy with your scampi, nor the price of it. Scampi is one of the items which price has escalated immensely, hence our recent price increase of it to reflect that...More

Good service from the barmaid on arrival and had a nice pint of the local beer. Ordered the lasagne and chips. Unfortunately the chef had left the lasagne in the oven much too long. Came out with a crispy top and very dry, no sign...of any sauce. Probably shouldn't have been brought out. Expected better for £12.50.More

There is a really lovely atmosphere here that my mother and I really appreciated. I phoned ahead to book and check out the accessibility for a wheelchair user - all level, but a slight issue with a narrow entrance and an outward opening door. Staff,...though, were helpful without fussing. A selection of tables and sofas and easy chairs in a lovely warm and open bar greeted us and, though quiet, there was a relaxed buzz about the place. Lots of pub classics on the menu, including the biggest salad I've ever seen (£12)! Mum had a small eats lasagne and said it was good. She also loved the lemon tart (£6.50) and I had a fruit crumble. The service was really excellent and our waiter was efficient and friendly. This is a lovely village pub and I hope to return.More

We’ve been in Somerset for a week now and it’s fair to say our food experiences have been like the weather - hit and miss! After another underwhelming meal last night I took to Tripadvisor and came across the Phelips Arms Immediately the atmosphere was...welcoming and they managed to find us a table. The food was clearly homemade. My husband had the pie, my son had the burger and I had lasagna which, other than my own, was the best I’ve had in a long time. Wish we were staying longer as I’d definitely return. Great atmosphere and fantastic foodMore

We are all vegan and two of us gluten free too. I was very impressed with the number of options that were vegan. I had two gluten free rolls with pesto tomato and cheese, salad vegan coleslaw and crisps it was delicious. My daughter had...a vegan jacket potato which was amazing and the salad with it was great too. Hubbie had a vegan baguette which was also very good and my youngest had plant based meat balls and spaghetti and garlic bread. Nothing was too much trouble and they even had vegan mayonnaise! Thank you for such a calm and happy dinning experience!More

I had booked Sunday lunch to coincide with a visit to Montecute House which is but a few yards away from the pub. We were shown to our table and were advised that the chef would be 'ready' for us soon. We didn't have long...to wait. There was a choice of three meats which were carved in very generous portions. We helped ourselves to a good selection of vegetables which were freshly cooked. The meal was very good indeed. We shared a dessert - Bailey cheesecake in a pot which was rich and creamy. The young staff were helpful and friendly as were hosts, Charles and Ann. It is a lovely old building, full of character. We would be more than happy to return.More

I have only just seen the question - sorry. We had visited Montecute House so the car was parked there and we walked the few yards to the pub. Otherwise, you might park on the street nearby.

We have a carvery on Sunday, with a nut roast as a vegetarian option. We also offer 3 other meal choices off our menu, which change weekly, such as lasagne, scampi and chips and a vegetarian pasta.
