High quality, tasty, well-priced food in a nice setting

We visited as two adults and two children. We turned up 20 mins early but the staff were very welcoming and happy to accommodate us. The restaurant has a large outside seating area set up for COVID, which is nicely lit and well covered, although there's no heating so it's worth wrapping up. The food was good quality and tasty. We particularly enjoyed the falafels, meat & cheese platter and croquettes. There was enough choice to satisfy the kids. As we had a long drive home to Essex we were unable to sample the wines, but they looked well priced and good quality. What impressed me the most was the cost for a reasonably sized good quality meal with good service and in a nice setting. Our bill came to £64. We struggled to find great food during our stay on the Gower peninsula but I would definitely go back to Nomad and would recommend it to others. I would love to be able to visit and enjoy the bar area inside which wasn't in use due to COVID, but felt well set up to imbibe a true mediterranean feel!

A little gem of a place.

After visiting the florist a few doors down from NOMAD, we decided to call in for coffee. We were greeted by lovely staff and seated by the window. We ordered a coffee and a sharing camembert platter ... WOW ... the coffee was the best I have ever had, and that really is true. The sharing camembert was served on a slate with warm soda bread, chutney and sauerkraut, it was absolutely delicious. This little place was bustling with customers all happily chatting away and sharing tapas, good wines and beers. It's clearly a very popular and cosy place to socialise with friends, and lovely to see a place doing so well in a quite area. We will certainly return, it's an amazing place. If you're in Gowerton, call in ... you'll get a lovely welcome and great food and drinks.

We were in nearby Gorseinon for a brief visit of previous old stamping grounds and googled places to eat locally and discovered that Nomad is currently rated #3 of 540 places to eat in Swansea area. So glad we came here. We had platters of fine welsh cheeses and Spanish meat with lovely artisanal breads and chutney. Devine. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Some lovely olives and breads completed things for us. Definitely a place to come and experience for yourself. A bit off the beaten track but so worth any detour involved.

We were very excited to try nomad and drove quite a way from our cottage in Gower where we were holidaying. The reviews built our expectation and perhaps we were expecting too much. On arrival it seemed a bit disorganised with staff not really sure what they were supposed to be doing in relation to covid etc. Everyone we spoke to was really friendly and welcoming however which was good. The problems really started when we were shown to our table which was what was clearly a car park on a huge slope with some tents and ramshackle tables which looked like they were found in a skip from a secondary school refurbishment underneath. We asked to be moved inside but there was no room - apparently you had to specify an indoor table when booking but I didn’t see any such option so we were stuck outside. The table was a joke it was a tiny plank of wood teetering in an old beer barrel and it wasn’t even screwed down or attached so it wobbled so much our drinks were constantly spilling. The waiter actually brought a stool to balance food and drink on it was so small and that wasn’t much better! The table was so tiny and was put on a huge incline / slope so it was just ridiculous it would have been more stable placing all 6 tapas dishes on our laps. Then Came the food. Having read the reviews we were willing to overlook the stupid table and the fact we were in a car park but unfortunately we felt the tapas were at best average in terms of taste and quality. The meatballs were good but the bravas were horrid basically looked like McCain’s wedges. I cannot fathom how the reviews compare the the food we actually had. Perhaps an off night perhaps not but overall we really did not enjoy the experience and couldn’t wait to leave. We were genuinely really disappointed.

Hi David, Thanks for the feedback. We are really upset that you did not enjoy your visit with us. Unfortunately, due to the current legislation in Wales we have been forced to take our business outdoors in order to continue trading. The overall style of our venue is that we try where possible to re-use and make use of materials that we have been able to salvage, we are sad that this did not come across well in your case, we have looked at the tables that you were sat on and have now replaced them. We have spent a significant amount of money on improving the dining experience for our customers outside, you were sat underneath a new substantial wooden structure built the week previously, not a 'tent'. We are making every effort to continue to improve this day by day, though, for small businesses, I'm sure you can appreciate this does not happen overnight. We are also very unhappy you did not enjoy the food, we pride ourselves on sourcing top-quality ingredients from local producers where possible, should you have raised the issue on the night we would have happily replaced the dishes or talked through with you how we intended to attempt to improve your experience. With regard to the COVID regulations, all staff have been fully trained to comply with Welsh legislation, we have conducted risk assessments based upon the same legislation in partnership with the licencing authority. All the information was provided in a written format to you on your menu and on our website, with your details being retained via our booking system in case they are needed for track and trace purposes. Having made many reviews, I am sure you understand the impact that these have on small businesses. We only wish that you had raised these with us on the night so that we might have had a chance to improve your experience rather than taking to social media to publicly criticise after your visit. We are genuinely really disappointed.

Absolutely fantastic

Ordered 8 tapas for myself and my children. Whilst there was enough it was SO delicious that we went back for more (although the brie type cheese would have been much better had it been more ripe) The chorizo was the best we've ever tasted. The ham portion was very generous. The anchovies were wow. All in all highly recommend (But wish they'd answer their Facebook messages)

My 70th birthday

We booked a table for 9 on the 14th August to celebrate a birthday. The weather was very hot but the staff had selected an outdoor table, in the shade, which meant we had a comfortable afternoon. The food was excellent. We booked the party menu so that we did not have to choose individually and the tapas just kept on coming. Incredible selection, very well cooked and presented, the service was great and the staff lovely. A very memorable occasion and we highly recommend it. Mike and Ina Harris, Bath.

A little gem. We live in Gowerton and visit here weekly. The service, hospitality and vibe never fails to disappoint. The staff are superb. Open, honest and welcoming. We had food this afternoon from the specials and regular menu. Croquettes, salted peppers, fried cockles, sour dough bread and meatballs. Superb. All washed down with a bottle of house red. If you’re looking for a quaint and homely venue, with a lovely vibe and knowledgeable staff, this is your place. Well done Sam and Jack

Very disappointing

We visited for Sunday Lunch. Whilst the food was tasty the portions were extremely small. I do not have a large appetite but even though I had a desert I still left feeling hungry. On the plate served was meat, two small roast potatoes and 1 tiny roast parsnip which was too overcooked to be eaten. A very small dish of vegetables was for 2 persons. It is certainly very poor value for money. It is a pity that as often happens, once a restaurant/cafe becomes popular the owners become complacent and cut back on sizes. We would certainly not go there again and would not recommend this venue. If Nomads want repeat diners then they will have to rethink their portion sizes or drastically reduce their prices.

Beautiful food with excellent service

Best tapas I've eaten outside of Spain. The food was really tasty and well presented, and the service was friendly and attentive. The large covered outoor seating area created a relaxed atmosphere. Would definitely come again.

A Great Find!!

We visited here without booking as we found ourselves staying nearby. Although very busy the staff went out of the way to fit us in and we were soon seated! The staff were really friendly and explained the small plate ethos of this European restaurant. They advised on the amount to have, how to connect to the barcode online descriptions for all food and the local sustainable food policy. We ordered a variety of small plates and all the food was excellent and well presented. Wine selection and foreign beers also great and all reasonably priced. The service was good throughout. Lovely evening!! You should try it!!!

An excellent selection of well-cooked and easy Tapas served by a marvellous team. We sat inside (upstairs) - no problems, with attentive serving on mismatched plates. Honestly as good as I've had anywhere; heartily recommended

Fantastic Food from a sustainably-run restaurant

We booked a table here whilst visiting the Gower. The restaurant was packed and we were warmly welcomed. The menu isn't huge, but wow the food is really good and very reasonably priced. We chose meatballs, hummus & home made focaccia, Padron peppers, croquettas, local cockles, falafals & patatas bravas. The food is very interesting with a local spin on the usual Spanish tapas. I'd definitely recommend a visit. We'll be back next time that's for sure :)

I'll keep it short. Nomad is what all restaurants should aspire to be; tasteful, well thought out and welcoming. We've visited three times in the last seven months and every time was flawless. The tapas served here is equal, if not superior, to anything we've eaten in Europe. The deserts are excellent, the beer is top quality German pilsner (my drink of choice - I'm sure the wine is just as good!) and the service is attentive but not overbearing. It's a cosy, warm space with minimalist decor and a nice outdoor area to the rear which looks fun if you're with a larger party or the like. Incredibly reasonable in terms of cost, too. There's not much more to say except if you're torn on whether to visit, I would urge you to do so. Thankful in a perverse way that we don't live close otherwise I'd be here every night.

Our first visit, service was spot on. Friendly, attentive and welcoming. The tapas were delicious, full of flavour and presented well with accompanying dips. The menu choice was varied with a wide choice. The decor was simple but funky and created a great ambiance. Can’t wait to return. Well done all, you’ve got everything perfect

Good Food & Chilled Vibes!

We have visited Nomad a few times recently, always great food, drink & friendly service, be it Sunday lunch, small plates or pop up pizza. Live music & paella event was great! Always a lovely, atmosphere and good vibe. Sunday social is good value for money. Look forward to more chilled nights at Nomad!
