Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I took my family for Sunday lunch at the Chester Arms, two of whom are coeliac. Ranjit was a fantastic host and we were pleasantly surprised at how most of the menu could be served gluten free. A full chicken roast including Yorkshire pudding and...gravy was gluten free and as a grande finale, even the sticky toffee pudding was gluten free! Very happy, full customers. Highly recommended.More

Great to have so much choice on the menu suitable for Coeliacs. There is a good range of pub classics and some more out of the ordinary dishes. The roast carrot starter was a taste sensation.

This place is amazing. We’ve been a few times and each time the food is so good and the service is always spot on. We visited last Sunday for a family get together and it was the first time we’ve tried the roast. We had...a mix of vegans and non-vegans in our party and everyone absolutely loved their food. Me and my partner are vegan and he has a gluten intolerance also. It’s really hard to find places that cater for both but it’s no issue at the Chester Arms. We had an amazing vegan and gluten free roast with all the trimmings, no missing out on Yorkshires, cauliflower cheese or gravy like everywhere else. Best roast I’ve ever had. The staff are so lovely too - we were seated close to the bar and kitchen and our 2 year old was obsessed with waving at the staff as they walked past. They waved and interacted with him and were so sweet with him, he even got an extra couple of chocolates as we left. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone - vegans and meat-eaters alike.More

We visited for the Sunday roast with our family. This consisted of 7 adults and our 2 grandchildren under 3. 1 of the party was Vegan and 1 Vegan with a gluton intolerance. All the meals were amazing, ideal setting for a Sunday roast, the...Vegan Sunday roast looked, and I was told, truly scrumptious. From start to finish, we were made to feel welcome, and at home. The service was excellent, all the staff/owner engaged with the children in our party and they loved it. We will definitely be back.More

Disappointing. It took nearly an hour to get our main courses - there was no apology. Yorkshire puddings were so overcooked they were rock hard. Chicken and veg were good. The gravy was very salty. Once our waiter left (I assume he finished his shift)...no one asked if we wanted more drinks etc.More

The Chester Arms is the epitome of a typical, cosy, Bedfordshire country pub. The welcome is a warm one and service friendly and attentive. Some good, well-kept beers are available (I had a pint of the ever-reliable Tring Breweries' Side Pocket). The menu gives a...good, wide choice of dishes - some traditional, some more exotic. I went for a bit of both, starting with an oriental crispy duck salad and following with Olney sausages and mash. Both were excellent and the main course was of generous proportions. My delicious sausages and creamy mash were accompanied by a tasty gravy and perfectly cooked broccoli and savoy cabbage. Ice-cream for pudding was spot on. It may be useful to some to note that, along with a few vegetarian options on the main menu, there is a whole, separate menu dedicated to vegan food. I would say the prices were slightly higher than average, though not enough to be unreasonable. A very enjoyable meal and a new pub to add to our list of places to revisit!More

We wanted a light lunch stop on our way to Norfolk to spend Christmas with family. The pub appearance from the road slightly misled us. This is effectively a restaurant where the bar is just for checking in. A friendly barman explained they did only...meals and no sandwiches. We were shown to a table and it was suggested if we wanted something light maybe a starter would fill the bill. The Welsh rarebit was tasty but very small, similarly the Oriental crisp duck salad. Neither were good value. Some unusual beers but over £6 per pint. Aussie Shiraz fine but also on the high price side. Probably good for a full meal at the higher end of the price range but not recommended for a brief r&r stop on a journey.More

My children wanted to treat me for my birthday, my daughter took on the job of finding somewhere where they did a allergy menu, as 3 of us are celiacs and 2 dairy free, despite pre-ordering, they were not prepared and didn’t get our order...correct. It wasn’t a good start when the waiter made a sarcastic remark about some of the party being 5mins late, the starters came out at different times, with long gaps between, one of the starters was a prawn cocktail with no sauce! we were told that it was because it had eggs in it !!! it had to be pointed out to them that EGGS do not come from cows. The main meals came with long gaps between them so people had to start to eat on their own, 3 of the meals were inedible and some missing side dishes by this time we had given up, I was given a meal I hadn’t ordered when I refused as there things on the plate I couldn’t eat the waiter asked could they scrap it of, I refused that and the waiter muttered bloody hell under his breath while taking the plate away , 25 minutes later I was still waiting! he finally came with the salmon I had ordered, however I couldn’t eat it as it was raw !!! I had nothing to eat. The bill came they hadn’t taken the deposit off, we refused to pay the whole of the bill as 4 of us had little or no food. The waiter was rude and service was diabolical. We should have asked for more money off or not paid atall, as never had such a bad experience.More

Booked online and we walked across from Chichley Hall Hotel . We were sat quickly and served drinks . Lovely warm breads and huge starters. We both had steaks , wonderfully cooked with a lovely peppercorn sauce. My husband had a crumble which he said...was delicious .. a great find, good value.More

What a disappointment. Was looking forward to a meal here having passed it several times. To say we were underwhelmed is an understatement. My husband's steak and ale pie had just 2 pieces of meat in it, and was so cold we sent it back....The replacement took a long time to come and we could hear the microwave beeping in the kitchen! My roast lamb was slightly better with a nice selection of veg, but the roast potato's were flavourless with no texture. The service was very uncomfortable and we were presented with the bill - without asking- as soon as we finished our main courses. When we mentioned this had made us feel uncomfortable, the member of staff just laughed. Overall, we were very disappointed, and won't make a return visit.More

Great service, comprehensive menu of pub favourites. Bar area was a but noisy but didn't detract too much from the meal. Servings are massive.
