Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Good value and freshly made food. Quite a simple interior but clean and welcoming. My friend and I usually share the hot pork bap served with a small salad garnish and apple sauce. An ample portion for lunch time. The outside area is quite big with tables and umbrellas for when weather is good. Definitely recommend

Popped in after hearing about the hidden cafe from neighbours. It was towards the end of the day but we enjoyed coffee and teacakes while sheltering from the wind and rain. Very clean and the menu looked great! We'll have to return.

Young ladies serving and clearing today could not have been more polite and friendly. Tea/Coffee very nice as usual but the coffee/walnut cake was a little stodgy and lacking flavour (this is purely based against their own very high standards) but not too off the mark to warrant losing a star. Always come here for for a bite to eat when in the area - best cafe around for miles and by miles. Highly recommend.

I will start off by saying that the food we did have was nice. However, we meet family here on Monday 23rd December and I was very disappointed with the lack of food available. I tried to order two all day breakfasts, but they weren't cooking as they were a staff member short. However they could do a ham & cheese omelette, which I ordered together with a ham ploughman's and a cheese ploughman's... there was then some discussion about whether or not they had enough ham for both items! Now I know this was two days before Christmas and I suspect that they were running down their perishable stock items. This would have been OK had I been made aware of this when I book a table several weeks prior to our visit. Also, there was a very limited choice of cakes. Then to top off our visit, by 2:30pm and with nobody else in the place, the staff started to brush up and generally clean up around us and looked to be closing up shop, so I decided that it was probably best not to order more drinks, so I paid and we left.

Very unwelcoming service, felt like we were an inconvenience to be honest. Wasn’t a particularly nice environment either. Despite reviews we both felt the coffee extremely weak. The saving grace was the very ample portion of cake and the large tuna melt. A smile would be nice though. Shan’t be coming back here sorry.

Hi Mike! Thank you for taking the time to review our business. Any feed back is appreciated. I was very disappointed when I discovered your review and took it back to my team. We work incredibly hard to keep our standards of customer service high. It’s something I am passionate about keeping consistent in my business. It’s something we have always & will always continue to work on during our ongoing training. If you visit again, you are always welcome to tell our barista’s exactly how you’d like your coffee and we will do our best to accommodate you. I’m very pleased to hear you enjoyed your food! Take care ☕️ Dave

We had a good lunch here while attending the bird of prey centre. Lots of outdoor seating and staff are very friendly. They fill your jacket potato with so much filling but it’s a shame their grated cheese wasn’t gluten free.

Met a friend for lunch and we both decided to order sandwiches. I ordered egg mayonnaise only to be told that was sold out. The alternative was cheese. Both listed on the menu for £5.75. I was asked if I wanted something with the cheese i.e. tomato or cucumber. I chose the latter and was told the cost would be £7.25 - an extra £1.50 for a couple of slices of cucumber appears extortionate, particularly when the sandwich arrived minus the cucumber! The plate was removed and hurriedly returned with thin slices of cucumber in each triangle. The plate was still minus coleslaw but couldn’t be bothered to enquire - probably sold out!

Visited here so many times and I’ve always loved the food. Today, it seemed very expensive and as if corners were being cut. No salad or crisps with the sandwiches. A child’s half sandwich was just that, on a plate, nothing else and same with the adults. We didn’t wait long and it tasted ok but I felt what we got was a bit bland for what we had paid. I know costs have increased but if you go out to eat, you expect to get value for money. There was also no soap whatsoever in the toilets which isn’t hygienic or covid secure.

Hi Malugreen! Thank you for taking the time to review our business! Any feed back is greatly appreciated. I’m so glad to hear that you’re a regular customer & we intend to keep it that way! As you can understand (and you’ve said above) prices have gone through the roof recently & we always do what we can to keep the prices of our products down. We don’t officially offer a child’s menu but to accommodate, we offer half size portions for half the price. (Child’s menu is something that will be coming out soon! 🙂). You’ll be very happy to hear that with our new menus due to release next week, we will be adding the additions of salad garnishes/coleslaw to certain items on the menu in the hopes that it can bring some extra value to our dishes! We hope you can bare with us & hopefully see you soon. 🤩 Take care ☕️ Dave

The only reason that I would not give a higher rating is due to the lack of attention to Covid restrictions. The food was great, as others have said, but we were there for at least an hour with several tables changing hands and were concerned by our observations. At no point did we see tables etc being wiped down after use and the laminated menus inside were equally well used, but not cleaned. I asked the young lady if it was not their policy to clean down after each visit and she said that she did it when she had time. Indeed she was very busy and appeared to be responsible for too many tables on her own. This could have been due to shortage of staff or an attempt to economise on staffing by the Management. In the climate of the times it is too much to expect of one person to exercise tight control of so many tables. We commented as we left that the only concession to Coronavirus was by the customers, who had to wear masks while placing their orders.

Hi Ann, Firstly, Thank you for taking the time out of your day to give us a review. Its brillant to hear that you think our food is great. However, we take our COVID-19 precautions extremely seriously at Heathers and pride ourselves on the restrictions we have in place to protect the health of our customers and members of staff alike. So obviously its not so brilliant to hear about your views on the restrictions we have in place. I'm always grateful for feed back because it allows me to have an outside view on the business and enables me to go back to my team and see what we can improve on collectively. Unfortunately in this case I feel your review is somewhat inaccurate. Which, to be fair to you is easily done if you haven't taken the time to read the various signs outlining our rules and restrictions that we have on the front door, inside the front door & on the counter. you state that the only restrictions in place is that customers have to wear face coverings. I'd like to list below just a few of the precautions that we actually have in place: COVID-19 rules for customers to follow: -Hand sanitising stations at the front door & at the counter -Track & trace QR codes & login sheet -Face coverings -Social distancing anywhere onsite and in the queue (clearly marked on the floors with bright yellow tape and stickers) -Rule of 6 COVID-19 rules for staff members to follow: -Temperature checks before starting every shift -Hand washing before starting every shift and throughout the day (this is a given) -Social distancing where possible -Rigorous Daily, Weekly, Monthly & Quarterly cleaning schedules to follow -Tables to be cleared, cleaned & disinfected as soon as possible after each use -Restock clean menu's and collect used menus for cleaning -Wear face coverings -Making sure doors, windows and roof vents are kept open for good ventalation These are just to name a few. I would like to reiterate that we work incredibly hard to protect the health & safety of our customers and staff members. It is absolutely paramount. Reviews are incredibly helpful but in some cases they can be extremely harmful if they are inaccurate and do not show the entire picture. Especially to a small family run business. In future (If you decide to visit us again) please, please ask to speak to me. I would be more than happy to help or assist you in anyway I can. Thanks again,

As always we have delicious, tasty food and incredible service. Dave is a credit to the team and always makes my little boys day by interacting with him. It’s always a lovely touch where when we come up to the tills to order he knows little ones order as he is a regular customer normally with his grandad and great grandma! This always makes my little one smile. Food is of good quality and is all freshly made on site. The jacket potatoes are amazing especially chicken, bacon and Mayo. My little boy enjoys a scrummy jam sandwich as well. Good portion sizes. A warm and cosy atmosphere to be in. A good choice of cakes and offers a variety of hot drinks with alternative milk options which is great for me. Highly recommend this place.

Heather’s is a nice clean venue, the food and beverages are all great. However, on my most recent visit I was shocked to be charged nearly £5 for a cup of hot chocolate. (The smaller cup is not worth having and not a lot less cost wise). My biggest gripe is that it was freezing in there. I regularly used to visit this establishment, but their costs have gone up considerably, and it was too cold in there to enjoy the experience.

My cycling friends and I have visited Mother Hen close to a hundred times ( or so it seems) and can’t praise the staff, food and drink enough. An excellent selection of cakes, pastries and more savoury foods are being offered. It is our first choice by a long shot and I would strongly recommend a visit!

I held an event here for a group of friends, only 1 who had visited before. It was a unanimous 10/10 for food, friendliness, cleanliness and location from all 22 people! We all had a variety of breakfasts, freshly cooked and delicious. Definitely will be back!!!

This was a good value breakfast. The only thing I would say was the sausages were of a poor quality and let down what was a good breakfast. If was busy and we were there 15 mins after it opened, but service was still good did not have to wait long for our meal. So very popular. Give it a go.

Popped in for our usual; tea and cakes. And as usual, everything was just perfect. Lovely pot of tea and the scone and coffee walnut cakes were absolutely delicious. Wouldn't dream of going next door to the 'big name' cafes.
