Not everything round here is open on a Sunday evening and the pub kitchen closed at 7pm so we came in around 6.30pm.
The pub didn't have a great atmosphere and perhaps it didn't help that no one else was eating. I was surprised that you couldn't click on a QR code of the NHS NHS Covid app as I thought it was now mandatory for businesses to do this.
Hubbie had the steak which was perfectly cooked to medium rare and at £13 was good value. I had the chicken skewers with chips and pitta which I couldn't finish as far too many carbs. Menu is fairly plain cooking but reasonably priced though.

Nice little pub with friendly staff, but the Food was very basic and a let down for me personally..
When i go to a restaurant the food should be the highlight, after all its why you go to a restaurant, to eat and pay for some good food.. but... i had a chicken kebab and the wife a chicken burger and when it came out it was all just a bit bland, not really worth it.. every plate had a handful of what looked like that packet bistro salad you get from the shops wacked on. I work in a restaurant so I get garnishing plates.. but when its crap salad throw on avarage food it just highlights a lazy chef. By the end of the meal me and my partner put all the salad we had been given onto one plate just to visualise how much we really had, honestly must have used a whole packet just for us, should have snapped a photo but I don't normally plan on leaving negative reviews, my mindset is you won't improve if no one has the balls to tell you. You had a live country singer on in the beer garden which was great, big tick for entertainment but the food just brings down the experience and there isn't much competition in your area so if the food was better I reckon you'd easily kill it in the area.
Would I return?
I might return one day just to see if you take on board anything that's said in these reviews.

Staff were very friendly and welcoming and the pub is really lovely.
The only disappointments are that not all the food was available and it took a third choice to find something that was available.
The steak was lovely, as well as the chunky chips, but we had to ask for condiments and were not brought up to us as in most restaurants, while spices, seasoning etc could have been added to make the food more interesting. It also took half hour from the point we had ordered for the food to come, which was quite a wait for such dishes considering how much was on the plate. Will return again as not everything was available, and want to try the other food on the menu that I wanted originally and that it's actually cooked well, while the cavery looked lovely.

From the road this looks like a lovely country pub so we stopped here this evening, whilst camping locally, to make use of the eat out to help out deal.
Before driving there, and knowing it would be busy due to EOTHO, we phoned ahead and booked a table.
We arrived ten minutes before our booked time and followed the signs around the back of the pub. Much to our shock and surprise we were greated to a caravan park at the rear of the pub rather than a quite country bear garden.
Never mind we thought and I approached the bar to enquire about our booking, the bar staff told me to sit wherever I could find space, this I thought was a bit odd for a pre booked table.
When we had selected our meals from printed A4 sheets of paper I was informed that there would be a 40 minute wait. OK I thought they are busy so continued with our order. After a wait of just over an hour I asked where our food was to be told by, I assume the manager/owner, we are really busy there is nothing I can do you will have to wait. She came back 5 mins later to ensure us our food would be with us in 10 mins, 30 mins later our food arrived.
So to the food, it was average at best! There is not a lot more I can say than that, and certainly not worth the money I payed.
Then to add insult to injury a regular customer (I assume by the way he was dressed) started clearing our table BEFORE we had finished!!
When I went up to pay the bill I asked if there was any discount for the wait and was greated by a lot of arguing from the manager? Chef? And even a customer on how I should espect the wait on a busy day, how the food was great and how I already had a 50% discount from the eat out to help out offer (although the pub will be reimbursed for that in full despite her argument that they won't be).
Before I left I had the good fortune of being told I was not welcome in the establishment again, which I can only say is a blessing!!
All in all a horrendous experience with appalling customer service to eat over prices (even with the EOTHO discount) average food.
Thank you for telling me I am not welcome back because I wouldn't have returned anyway!

We visited on a horribly windy and rainy day and were hoping for a nice warm lunch (we had pre-booked early in the week due to our visit coinciding with the eat out help out scheme).
We arrived at our booked time and after a while were given the menus. After ordering, drinks came quickly but food did not. Bearing in mind that the venue only had a handful of diners, we felt that a wait of an hour for food was excessive.
Food was good but we decided we would not order desserts because we didn't want to risk another long wait.

We attended this pub having travelled from Camber, the food arrived and one of the main meals was inedible, when I asked to speak to the Manager I was told that he had spoken to the chef and was advised it was supposed to taste like that so no reduction in our bill could be offered., nor could an alternative meal be given. The Manager had collected our plates and saw that one meal (pasta) had not been touched and refused to listen to our complaint nor remove it from the bill. No one checked during our meal if all was ok until this time.
The food came to £50 for myself and 2 children and when I said I was unhappy to pay this the Manager became rude and offensive. Some locals then began to heckle me when I was talking to the Manager at the Bar and I felt threatened and therefore was reluctantly forced to pay the bill in full.
We left hungry and very upset

We stopped here for lunch on Christmas Eve 2019. You sense the history of the place as soon as you enter. It's cosy enough, the beer is reasonable but the food is best avoided...either the cook has insufficient formal training or the food was made in a factory and merely reheated on site.

Visited 31st Aug. Very welcoming - dog friendly and good extremely good with large portions. Be warned the deserts are also large portions and delicious - really enjoyable evening - good value food offering and shout out to the young lady behind the bar who was running the place. Highly recommend!

My friend, who was visiting from The Netherlands, wanted to experience a “traditional meal in a traditional pub”. Most establishments now advertise themselves as gastro pubs, which wasn’t what we were looking for. Having read the most recent reviews and looked at the menu we selected ‘The Cock Inn’ in Peasmarsh.
My friend ordered from the section entitled ‘pub classics’, selecting Steak & Ale Pie which was described as (presumably served with) “Creamy Mashed Potato & Seasonal Vegetables” for £15
As a vegan who is wheat intolerant my own choice was very limited but I’m used to this. There was no indication that any dishes were gluten free, although there was the standard notice regarding allergens “please make us aware when ordering food” I did query one dish which turned out not to be gluten free and took a stab in the dark and selected “a trio of sausages’ which was served with ‘beans and chips’. The beans turned out, not surprisingly. to be baked beans. We ordered cola light and bitter lemon to drink. The drinks were fine but when my friend ordered a second glass of bitter lemon he couldn’t drink it - he said it tasted as if someone had squirted washing up liquid into the glass.
Both hot meals arrived on cold plates. Neither looked remotely appetising. The pastry on the steak pie was pale and insipid, (it looked undercooked) and was served with gravy, a dollop of overcooked cabbage and carrots. There was a round of what looked like potato mashed with parsnip or onions. What I had thought was either parsnip or onions turned out to be just lumps of potato. So much for the ‘creamy’ mashed potato and ‘seasonal’ vegetables. Carrot and cabbage cannot, surely, be described as ‘seasonal, vegetables’ in August - or does seasonable now mean vegetables that are available whatever the season?
My meal was so poor that I left most of it. Both sausages and crinkle chips were obviously straight out of the freezer: some of the chips were hot but too many were barely warm and the baked beans were cold. The sausages, however, had been heated to within an inch of their lives: hot but hard, dried up and tasteless. I was charged £12 for this!
When I went to pay, the barmaid, who was friendly enough, asked if we had enjoyed our meal. I replied “Not really” and went on to describe the state of my meal. “Oh we always serve on cold plates and you should have told me about the cold food and I would have heated it up for you”. I didn’t mention the soapy drink as I felt it was up to my friend to make his own complaints as I hadn’t actually tasted either the drink or his meal but he (and I) just wanted to leave there as fast as possible.
My advice to prospective diners is: read ALL the reviews before you go there. We should have done.
The claim on their website is “It's important to us that we serve the best quality food we can to our customers”. All I can say is “Really?”

We went for dinner here as decided not to eat in The Flackley Ash.
When we arrived the barmaid was lovely, asked us to sign in, so they had a record of who we are because of the covid regs.
We were then offered a table inside or out. We went out.
I ordered the chicken kebab and my partner had the lasagne.
The food was really good, it was good wholesum pub food, tasty and well worth the money, which honestly was not that much. We had drinks mains etc and it all came to less than £50.
Conclusion.
Not fine dinning but great pub grub, tasty, value for money, lovely staff.
I would happily return.

I spent my childhood and young adult hood living in the caravan park to the rear , i have seen it change hands and be revamped over the last 40 years, it still hasn't lost it quaint ,relaxed, friendly atmosphere .
The food is always of a excellent standard , they offer a good supply of beverages.
The campsite is fairly basic but cheap enough for what it is.

We just popped in to get a light lunch at around 2.15 thinking that food service may have stopped. Pleased to find food was served all day. Ordered the Bacon and Brie baguette and some drinks. No pressure to pay immediately. We sat in the garden as it was a nice day. When the food arrived it was very nice. Fresh bread with warm bacon and fresh cheese. All very fresh. Served with fries and a nice chopped salad. Also a very substantial quantity. We enjoyed our lunch and the service was excellent. Dog friendly as well.
Very reasonable price for a very nice lunch.

It is a pretty basic pub, but the staff are very, very friendly. The food just lacked flavour - one of us had macaroni cheese, and there wasn’t much if any cheese in the sauce - it was more like macaroni bechamel with a sprinkling of cheddar on top. That said, the portion was big and the fries were nice.
The bar tender did vape as he went around the pub, which we didn’t love, but it’s his place I guess! The pub was very quiet, which was a real shame, but it’s got a nice little garden out the back and it’s fairly priced.

This place is a home away from home, with a warm and friendly atmosphere and attentive staff who make you feel like family. The food is fantastic, with options for every taste, and the beer selection is impressive. But what truly sets this pub apart is the genuine warmth and camaraderie that you feel when you're there. It's a community that embodies the best of British hospitality, and it's waiting for you to join it. Highly recommended. (Sirloin steak was truly next level!) My son brought his guitar ans was playing after we finished eating.. A Great evening!

We stayed for 5 nights, the site is small (maybe 6-8 pitches) which is means the 2 loos and 1 shower in each of the men's and lady's block was adequate - both were clean and fine.
The pub (handily!) does take-away's, the fish and chips we had were very good, and excellent value.
There is a bus stop close by to get into nearby Rye, where parking can be an issue especially for our small motorhome.
Also handy for Great Dixter, Sissinghurst etc.
