Desperate for fish and chips after a four week trip away from home in the UK. Kalky’s was universally recommended. Located in the harbour seating in basic both indoors and out. Food is chosen from a blackboard list and ordered. It is cash only. There...are fried and grilled options. Cooked to order one has to wait until it is delivered to the table. A number system is used which is on the receipt. The quality of the food was excellent. The standard dish is hake and chips. Piping hot the hake was fresh, the batter crispy and the taste delicious. The fish was perfectly cooked, flaking and quivering as it should. The large portion of chips was also cooked perfectly. Salt, malt vinegar and chilli sauce are on the tables. For those wanting great fish and chips go no furtherMore

A fish restaurant on a pier sounds great. Expect things to be fresh and tasty. We had a variety of dishes: fish/chips, peri peri prawns, salad..... The person who took our order needed it explained several times even though we were ordering straight off the...menu: three fish/chips; one prawns..... Overall the food was not great. The fish/chips looked and tasted limp, prawns were overly doused in the sauce. A Greek salad was OK. We ate at an outside table that had not been cleaned in a while. Looked like all the tables were in the same sticky state. While they cannot be 100% sure, two of our group were sick the next morning and both attributed it to the Kalky's food. All the food was served in styrofoam or plastic. No compostable materials used. There's easy parking and there's the opportunity to walk on the pier to watch the seals, who can also be playing on the pier. Wish I had better to report as a chipper on a pier should be a fresh dining experience.More

What an awful experience. The lady who took our order at the window was efficient and friendly. It ended there. All covid protocols were adhered to. The food was sun-standard and horrible. At a seaside town at the very least the fish should have been...fresh and tasty. It was not. The batter was awful and chips tasted like they were a couple of days old. Calamari was tough and tasteless. Never again!!More

Very good hake. Chips undercooked. Salad was very old fashioned and cheap quality olives and feta were used which spoiled the flavour. Speedy service. Friendly staff. Authentic fish ‘n chips experience.

Went here for lunch on 3rd February - a first return trip for many years. One simple word to describe it : AWFUL.... the Calamari was simply awful - rubbery and soggy with zero flavour - I am sure that it had been cooked HOURS...before and left until an order came through, The fish ... (Hake) was tasteless with soggy batter and the savoury rice ... well nothing savoury about it . On top of that, it felt like a constant stream of paying for anything "extra" which should have come with the meal - extra for lemons, extra for the worst Tartar sauce. We even asked for a container to take our plentiful left overs away for a homeless person and guess what? ... we had to pay for that too ! Such a shame that this iconic waterfront venue has become what felt like a horrible feeding experience. Please guys, take note and don't settle for mediocre ....More

We had a great lunch at Kalky’s. The outdoor queue was long but relatively Covid safe, and the collection system was fine. Our orders did take some time to be made; but tasted great and we were happy customers. If you would bougie tartare sauce...best to take your own with you.More

After years of enjoying great fish n chips at Kalkys for well over 15 years, what a shocking disappointment Kalky’s was on 19 October 2021, After waiting more than 20 minutes the food eventually arrived in a plastic bag like a takeaway, with no eating...utensils , no serviettes, no salt or pepper or sauces, had to ask for it . I told my Family from the UK that Kalkys serve the best Fish And Chips in CT, but unfortunately not the same as a few years ago , Will not go back again .More

After years of enjoying great fish n chips at this local institution for well over 20 years, what a shocking disappointment Kalky’s was this July 2021! My guest and I both ordered Yellowtail with chips. I’d referred Kalky’s to her as being the local favourite,...fondly remembered for consistently good fresh fare. The yellowtail was so overcooked it was like biltong, only drier! For those who don’t know what that is, it’s dried meat, often tough and chewy. I was embarrassed and will not recommend Kalky’s again. Such a shame that this beloved institution has gone down so badly. .More

Been eating at Kalky’s for years. But the last three times the fish was horrid and full of bones. The chips were undercooked and soggy greasy limp mess. The guy who runs the place prefers to take phone call after phone call and keep all...the other customers waiting. He blames his staff for everything. We tried again today ang got a repeat of all the above. So sad to see this iconic place go so badly down hill. Won’t be going back. Goodbye Kalky’s.More

Used to eat in Kalk bay for the pass 17 years. Yesterday was the first wasn't pleased with the meal. Portions are too small. Chips were all soggy and burned. And also found a fly in the fish cake takeaway container. Very disappointing.
