Our second time attending new years eve celebrations at The Three Crowns. It was brilliant last year that's why we booked again This year we missed crackers and a bottle of fizz on tables they had even taken away the xmas tree which was a shame. A live 2 piece band this year who where very good played some good oldies maybe a touch loud I like loud music but perhaps not when you are talking and eating. We were in the nook where we were last year which was great seemed a bit private loved the service and food very good It was great to see the place busy but I felt it was more for the young set this year rather than the older person

Mrs Vicar had a yearning for a Sunday Roast lunch but without the cooking. We booked our collection time slot and paid over the phone. We arrived in the car park, phoned to say we were here and Sunday lunch appeared and socially distance delivered 2 metres away from the car. All good when we got home, very nice beef, chicken and generous with the gravy.

We thank you for your socially distance review and do hope that once all this is over there will be a future occasion when we do not have to stand 2 metres from your table whilst delivering your Sunday roast in a ( sanitised ) paper bag

This pub knows how to look after it’s customers. The food was delicious and brilliant value, service friendly and attentive - we certainly felt safe eating here in these tricky times due to all the safety measures they have in place. Will certainly be back.

At 6pm we telephoned and booked a table for 2 at 6.30pm. Lots of specials on the board. Ordered a glass of wine and a shandy at the table. The menu is not large but a nice variety. However, when it came to ordering our food, we were told there were no specials, no steak, no fish, no BBQ onion rings and no lots of other thngs. We decided not to stay. We explained that we'd ordered our drinks to go with our food but as they did not have much we would not be staying. We received the bill for £11.60 approx. We thought that was unfair in the circumstances and were told the chef had cut his finger (we were told exactly that last time we were there) and they were training another chef. We should have been informed sooner but apparently the chef cut his finger at exactly 6o'c! We were given 15% off the drinks bill - equating to around £2! The right customer service would have been either forget the drinks bill or a voucher for the shandy and a glass of wine next time we came in. That way they'd have kept our regular custom but now we're unlikely to be going back - at least for a very long time. Poor attitude and poor training.

Hello, My name is Jessie, I spoke to you as you left. I'm very upset to see this review as I thought we had resolved the issue when you left, you told me you were happy to pay for the drinks but as a gesture of goodwill for a wasted trip I took 15% off the bill for you. If you felt the gesture was not enough it would have been better for you to have voiced this with me before you left as it was something I would have been happy to sort out for you. Your comment about bad training is hurtful to myself and my staff, as a business we always ensure new staff as well as existing staff always have extensive training and refreshers and I believe that my staff are incredibly hardworking and work to the standard I expect from them. I have been in this trade for 7 years now and I take it upon myself as manager on shift to make sure if there are any issues, I am made aware and that customers like yourself, aren't leaving with a bad taste in your mouth. This is why I personally spoke to you face to face instead of it unfortunately being vocalised over tripadvisor as this can be very damaging to a business. Like I said before, if you weren't happy with the offer I gave you, as long as you voice this to me it is well within my means to give you a voucher or something else as an apology from us at The Three Crowns. As I explained to you when you were leaving, we cut a lot off the menu as the only chef available to work was still being trained, this was why we weren't serving steaks as I wasn't comfortable with the possibility of steaks being served to customers cooked incorrectly. I would rather you not have a steak then have one and risk it being cooked incorrectly and further inconveniencing your evening. I believe you called the pub at 5:58pm to book your table for 6:30pm, around 6pm, maybe a few minuets after, our head chef Kris, managed to slice into the tip of his middle finger and had to be rushed to A&E as we could not stop the bleeding. He is fine now (thank goodness!) but because of this he was not in a fit state to work meaning that the trainee chef was left on their own and I was uncomfortable with them cooking steaks as well as our limited specials menu because I wasn't confident that it would all be served to the standard of food we strive to deliver at The Three Crowns. I have no excuse for anything else missing off the menu, during periods of heavy footfall we take a lot of tables that haven't booked so sometimes we just run out of stock faster than normal. The weather was lovely yesterday meaning Friday afternoon was one of those busy spells where we easily run out of some of our dishes and won't have any in stock till the following day when we can get to our wholesalers. It is incredibly unlucky that on both of your visits this has happened (I was also the person you spoke to on your previous visit when the same thing happened) but unfortunately when working in a kitchen with sharp knives, sometimes accidents like this are unavoidable. I remember one of you mentioning that your daughter (?) also worked in a kitchen so I was happy to hear that you also understood it happens sometimes. I apologised to you last night but I would like to extend another apology, I am incredibly sorry that has happened to you on 2 occasions now and I'm so sorry that you have decided to not visit us again/ for a very long time. I am sorry that it was not communicated to you when you arrived and ordered your drinks that we were running a limited menu because of the accident. It was a little bit hectic upon your arrival as one of the bar staff had to drive him to the hospital so we were down a member of staff in both the kitchen and bar. As manager on shift I take full responsibility for this not being communicated to you and again, am very sorry. We hope you do give us another chance and that we can make it up to you on your next visit.

These premises have a most efficient method of serving takeaway customers - safe and healthy. We have had one evening meal and two Sunday lunches in the last three weeks. The food was of high quality, hot and tasty. Well done The Three Crowns. You are doing the village proud!

I had the most lovely experience eating at the three crowns a few weeks ago with a friend. I’d been here for drinks so many times as it’s very local to me but had never eaten here but after seeing how fantastic the food looked I decided to finally dine here and bring a friend. We shared a portion of potato skins to start which we really enjoyed and then we both had burgers which were really great and I felt really reasonably priced given the how good the quality was and they both came with two sides each. The staff were so helpful and friendly which I actually find is a bit of a rarity these days. I loved my dining experience that much at the three crowns that I booked to go back 5 days later on Christmas Eve with my boyfriend and the second time around was just as good despite being incredibly busy! Will definitely be returning very soon.

I am so thrilled I chose the Three crowns for my first meal out in a very long time. Amazing food and lovely staff. Had the bacon and cheese potato skins to start and the fries with brisket and cheese. Enjoyed the food a tremendous amount. The brisket was superb and absolutely delicious. The portions were generous and very filling without any compromise on taste. The staff were attentive and engaging, which, alongside the decor and outside seating, made for a wonderful atmosphere. Highly recommend the Three Crowns for price, service and excellence. This is a super pub in a beautiful causal location. Will make a point of returning very shortly.

Our family party of five went for Sunday lunch on the 3pm booking slot. Our roast dinners were served up on very small plates piled up food and looked very messy and unappetising I can only assume that the normal sized plates were in the dishwasher. The yorkshire puddings were burnt and hard and looked as if they had been standing for some time. The roast beef dinners only had two small slices of beef and were cold as was the small room that we were placed in .. I did not complain on the day as my son over from the USA for three days was treating us and I did not want to upset him on the day of his return flight. In all a very disappointing family lunch.

Hi Brian, Thank you for your feedback. We are very disappointed that you didn't enjoy your meal with us. I checked on you during and after your meal to ask if you were enjoying everything and each time you said that you were, so you can understand my shock in reading this review! I appreciate that you may not have wanted to say anything in front of your son, as someone who often flies to and from the States to visit family I can understand what an arduous journey it is. We have, however, been liaising about a future booking in three weeks time and I feel that perhaps since you didn't raise a problem and give us an opportunity to fix it at the time, you could have mentioned it to me via email, as I'm sure you can understand how damaging these reviews can be for small, family run businesses during what is already a very difficult time for the hospitality sector. We have, however, had some lovely feedback from the other 93 customers who dined with us on Sunday, so I am sorry that you didn't feel that your meal was up to a similar standard. When you asked me if the heating was on, which it was, I did offer to move your party to a table that we had free in another part of the pub, which was right by a radiator, but you declined. We endeavour to keep The Three Crowns as cosy as possible and I'm sorry that you were cold! The dinner plates that you were served your meals on are our standard roast dinner plates and are bigger than a regular dinner plate! We also served two slices of beef since the beef joint was so large that one of our staff announced in the kitchen that it was as big as their head! Again, had we known that you were dissatisfied, we would have done our utmost to sort you with another slice of beef, a new Yorkshire pudding or anything else that would have improved your experience and hopefully you would have left happy. As I said, we do appreciate your feedback and have passed your comments onto our kitchen for their consideration. Thanks, Jessie

I came here with two friends for Sunday lunch yesterday and had the most wonderful meal with excellent service from Jessie. All three of us had the roast beef which came with all the trimmings. The roast potatoes were particularly good and the beef was cooked beautifully, a proper Sunday roast. We were lucky enough to sit in the 'snug' area which was brilliant because we're all huge George Michael fans. I'll be back soon!

We have a Sunday Lunch Club and 5 of us all try an get out when a good friend of ours is back in town. After visiting several pubs/restaurants over the last 6 months, nothing has even come close to the Sunday Roast that we had. The King x 3, Chicken and Beef roast dinners were exceptional. Why we decided to order 2 additional portions of roasties is still beyond me. Great dining area felt like we were a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of a main road. Sure that we all agreed that we don't need to look for our next venue to try as we cannot see anyone getting close to Three Crowns, and some of the group are looking at coming back for dinner, well the £12 bottle of Prosecco on Friday, then possibly a dinner. All round great pub, great vibe, with great staff and service

We visited this pub the other day and it seemed they were totally unaware of the measures restaurants and pubs are supposed to take regarding covid. The bar staff were not wearing masks or visors. Customers were ordering at the bar rather than at their tables and no one took our details. When I questioned the barmaid regarding these issues she just shrugged. I was pretty horrified to see this so would advise against a visit if you are bothered about catching the virus.

Reviews like this can be very damaging to a business firstly in terms of putting off potential new customers but also to staff morale and customer morale as the great thing about a pub like ours is our customers feel that their regular have been slighted. Apart from informing us that the visit took place in August there isn`t really too much fact based evidence to go on, no day, date or time of day, no staff names, no review on our food, drinks, service, flowers in the garden etc etc and no use of the facility open to all reviewers, the one where you can send a private message to the establishment you are reviewing if you have points and concerns you would like to make. The review is totally at odds with others both on here and on other social media sites where customers have taken time to praise our staff and the time and care we have taken with Covid19 measures. Take a look – it`s out there for all to see. The writer advises that we were totally unaware of the measures that we were supposed to be taking and then gives an interpretation of these measures. Actual Government guidelines are here https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/5eb96e8e86650c278b077616/working-safely-during-covid-19-restaurants-pubs-takeaway-services-200812.pdf And here https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/face-coverings-when-to-wear-one-and-how-to-make-your-own/face-coverings-when-to-wear-one-and-how-to-make-your-own And then finishes with the advice `against a visit if you are bothered about catching the virus.` So, let`s rewind and take a look at the process we went through before re-opening on July 4th and let`s not forget that before then we had been one of 727 premises inspected by Hertsmere Borough Council environmental health team and one of 14 pubs to be awarded the maximum 5 star score. Before opening our team put together an eight page risk assessment specific to Covid19 procedures and completed a nine page Licensed Premises Questionnaire for local authorities answering their questions and detailing our procedures. On opening day we were visited by local authorities, including Police and a regional manager from our pub company who made an inspection tour ( retail standards audit ) and followed up with by advising us we had achieved the highest score of all the pubs visited. The writer commented on track and trace details not being captured, since opening we have operated an automated table booking system that captures date and time of visit ,name of party leader, number in the party and contact details including phone number and email address. Customers can of course call in by `phone to book and we note name and numbers. Could it be the writer was part of a larger table where we already had contact details for the booker? We do not require our regulars to `check in` for every visit as we already have their contact details, we have 74 who visit 5 or more times a week, a further 107 who visit 2- 4 times a week and let`s not forget our 89 Tuesday Quiz regulars who have helped raise just over £115,000 for charities and good causes over the years. And let`s not forget to thank Chancellor Rishi and his Eat Out to Help Out scheme which encouraged 1,959 to visit and enjoy the offer in August. It could be the writer visited without a booking, in which case we have clear signs showing entry for our one way system, at the front door signage asking customers to please wait to be seated, to use our hand sanitiser unit and to use our track and trace system to log in. If a member of staff is not there to offer assistance the instructions are fairly straightforward and have been followed since re-opening. I trust I have presented our case well enough and thank the thousands of customers who have supported us during these difficult times and our hard working team who have put so much effort into keeping our pub a much loved part of the community.

WOW! What can I say. We went to the Three Crown Bushey for a Sunday roast and it was excellent. Greeted by very friendly bar staff and then shown to table. The food was amazing. I had beef and my friend had pork both very tender and a good portion. The potatoes and veg very very tasty. I would highly recommend and I will return. Well done 👍
