We're on holiday and called in on Sunday for the live music... really enjoyed the afternoon, log fire, friendly and relaxed, great atmosphere. Returned midweek for lunch after a bracing cliff walk. Fire still burning and our food was an absolute treat; we've eaten out several times this week and this was our favourite. I'm allergic to sulphites and James, owner and chef, adapted his fish stew for me - it was exceptional and this was a rare occasion when I did not have food envy looking at my partner's plate, mine was every bit as good as his. If you're looking for fresh, expertly cooked, delicious food with a warm welcome The Swan Inn delivers and then some.

Thank you so much for your very kind words. We always try to accommodate people's dietary requirements and are extremely happy you enjoyed your fish stew - it is a firm favourite here!
Hope to see you again soon

We so enjoyed visiting this little pub last year that we just had to return. We weren’t disappointed. The hosts Amy and James have worked hard to put Covid 19 precautions in place but unlike many other establishments have still managed to maintain a varied and tasty menu, social distancing and cleanliness without spoiling the lovely friendly atmosphere here. Our party of 4 had a lovely lunch and before we left we booked a table for Tuesday’s ‘Wok This Way’ Asian food evening. We really enjoyed it too, something different and obviously popular. On Friday we celebrated my husband’s birthday here for the ‘Fish Night.’ I had delicious Tuna souvlaki served on pita bread with peppers and onions and my husband had the Sole Goujons, all perfectly cooked and well presented. It was worth the drive fromYealmpton where we were staying so we would recommend The Swan for its lively, friendly ambience.

This is the place to go if you want to feel part of the community, plus there is the added benefit of its prime location looking down the river. Food is extremely good, and nothing is too much trouble. The chef even came out to discuss my wife's gluten-free requirements to ensure she got what she wanted. It's a first class village pub where you're welcome whether you just want a pint, or a meal!

Sunday night is Curry night, apparently.
The choice is limited (5) and the price is the same whatever you choose.
However, be warned, if you are NOT a local you likely to receive an inferior qua.ty product (but still pay the same price).
As visitors our meals were served on a paper plate looking pale, small pieces and mediocre.
Locals appeared to have larger pieces of meat/food and these were served in pottery bowls.
Theirs looked much more appealing.
As far as taste was concerned then I would say that they were equal to a Co-op microwave meal.
Very poor not overly hot and poorly presented .
Ambience????
Well if you like pubs/restaurants with loud braying individual customers that make it difficult to talk to the person next to you, then this could be for you - if you are happy to have your food served different to that served to the locals.
But I wouldn't recommend it.

Drove my mum out here to try for Easter Sunday and I have been served raw chicken! Not just a small part, like it's just been shown the pan. Unfortunately i had already eaten 2 or 3 miuthfuls and now i feel awful. Cooking chicken isn't hard and it worries me that this has been served like this. Luckly not to a child. Do they not check before things go out? Ruined my day and spent the rest of it at home feeling rotten. Utterly dissapointed and will not be going back.

Firstly I would like to offer my apologies again. We have served hundreds of meals this very busy Easter weekend to very happy customers but unfortunately something clearly went very wrong with your dish. I want to reassure you that we do check and probe our food and I am looking into how this one was missed.
We care about our food and I hope you can see from our other reviews just how much we work hard to provide a good all round service. We would like to invite you back again for a meal on us so we can show you just how good we usually are.
Please contact me directly on amy_wellsteed@hotmail.com if you wish to discuss the matter further.

A very attractive, cosy, pub with well spaced tables. An open fire was a nice feature on a wet day. Both meals we had, ham, egg and chips and cottage pie, were delicious and good value. Service was prompt and friendly.

I called in advance before booking a table to see if this pub could accommodate my friend’s vegan diet. The chef was very flexible and we were advised there were a number of options on the menu, or other dishes could be adapted to be vegan.
Staff remembered this on the day (the guy with dark curly hair, don’t know his name sorry!) and all were really friendly and accommodating. The new beer garden looks great and the addition of heaters and blankets makes it lovely and cosy.
All topped off my the stunning view of course, happy to have this as one of our locals!

We ate a great lunch at the Swan on May 13th. They have a covered outdoor decked area overlooking the water, complete with patio heaters and blankets for the benches, so poor weather needn't put you off. Our fish (cod for the wife and monkfish scampi for me) were lovely, piping hot with a really light crispy tempura style batter. What's more the service was quick and the staff really friendly and helpful - wouldn't hesitate to recommend

The Swan is rightly categorised as no. 2 of 2 pub restaurants in Noss. We are regulars at the other establishment, and have been meaning to give the Swan a try for some time. We found the food quite ordinary and too expensive for what it was (fish stew and vegetable pasta bake) The menu was quite limited, but I guess it was partly down to the shortage of staff, which is the problem in many places. It was quite pleasant sitting overlooking the water, but a bit rowdy with several dogs barking at each other, and a bit chilly as we were not sitting near one of the heaters. There is no parking at all, so quite a walk back up the hill from the few cramped parking spaces at the bottom by the creek. My recommendation would be to go to the no.1 of 2 pub restaurants in Noss, which has loads of really nice seating inside and out, and a very extensive menu, including lots more starters and light bites; but when you go there, beware of the sea coming up the creek and swamping your car, or even washing it away..

We stayed near this pub so used it several times. We had three evening meals and a lunch there. It is a busy venue with a friendly and vibrant atmosphere. The hosts, Amy and James make everyone welcome, both regulars and visitors alike. There is a great heated all weather outside area as well as inside tables. We enjoyed the local Sea Shanty Choir and also the popular quiz night. The food is excellent, with a varied menu suited to all tastes, using local produce and fresh ingredients. We did visit other pubs in the surrounding area but The Swan was our favourite for food, location and service.

There are three pubs in Noss/ Newton Ferrers - this is the best. A team who genuinely care about delivering a great service, the best bitter on draught (‘Swan’) and delicious food. We were there on an Italian night - the sourdough pizzas were excellent, and a small issue with one of the very nice pasta’s corrected quickly and efficiently with grace. What an absolutely lovely pub.

We called in here for a coffee on Sunday 16th May - right at peak lunchtime. The staff were really friendly and accomodating, and happy to find us a table, even though we weren't eating & didn't have a reservation. Later in the week, we stopped off again at lunchtime - no tables inside as they were fully booked (and it was raining) but again they found us a sheltered outside table overlooking the water and lit the burners to keep us warm. A really nice welcome both times. We always eat at The Ship across the water wnen we come down to Noss, but will review this for the future, as we were both so impressed. Baguettes, coffees and brownie all good.

Having eaten in the Ship across the water for the last couple of days, we were disappointed with the quality of the food. As a result we decided to give the Swan a go. They were incredibly busy, being a Friday in August, but were very accommodating. The quality of the food was great and it all felt fresh and handmade. We had heard good things about the Ship, but I would highly recommend eating in the Swan in future, but maybe book ahead.

Whilst staying in the South Hams visiting friends we were recommended The Swan for lunch. We were not disappointed. Popping in on the off chance we were greeted by super friendly staff who found us a table outside. Lunch was excellent, served with a smile and lots of pleasantries. We will be back!
