Superb food, service and ambience. Excellent beer to wash it down too. Excellent value for money as the portions are a good size. The lunch menu is quite varied plus a good choice of specials covering starters, mains and pudding.

Went here on a visit to York, wanted a dog friendly pub with charm.....found it.. Lovely inside , made to feel very welcome from the moment we walked in. It was fairly busy and we were seated by a very chatty, very charming young fella. He just couldn't do enough for us and when we embarrassingly informed him that we... More

We called in for a late lunch on the way back from York (too busy in the city centre}. The pub was quiet and warm with a few locals chatting. This was a weekday. The manager/chef told us that he had only taken over a month previously. He was friendly and helpful. Homemade Yorkshire puddings and homemade gravy as a... More

Stopped for Sunday lunch, I had the rack of lamb which was very disappointing. The rest of the party had roast beef which was 'okay' but not great.

It is many years since I last ate here, so I was looking forward to trying it out again. The decor is rather tired now, particularly the carpet. It is good to see there was a mix of people having food and also folk in for a drink at the bar. I had the burger which I found a bit... More

We were staying nearby so called in for food, from the outside the pub looks like a nice country pub, inside it is tired and a little scruffy. We ordered food, starters were nice and tasty, blue cheese and mushrooms on toast and scotch egg with piccalilli. We were really looking forward to our mains based on the starters, unfortunately... We needed a dog friendly pub with decent menu (including vegetarian and gluten free) to meet up with two sets of old friends for lunch. The web site showed an extensive lunchtime menu but when we arrived there was a rather limited "winter menu" that was disappointing in its scope. False advertising on the website. The "dog friendliness" also came... More

Stopped off on our way home, not sure what to expect but was pleasantly surprised. Great staff, very helpful and friendly. Box of Lego to keep the children happy. Excellent food, the burger was really good with a slice of apple.
