It's cosy, there's a roaring fireplace in the winter, well-stocked bar but don't be fooled: this place is about well-thought-out, often freshly-picked, beautifully-presented and well-executed dishes. The serving staff know what's in each dish their chef has created, and how it's prepared; they're knowledgeable enough...More

We came here after a days walking and were greated with a friendly smile. We were early to our table (because we’d planned to have a drink first but the pub was full, so we asked if we could do to the table straight away),...More

Finally got round to making a booking as we had foodie friends coming to visit. Lovely comfortable atmosphere with friendly, approachable staff. Well kept beer to accompany really good food. 3 courses all having different dishes; all jealous of the other's plates. It's what I'd...More

We were travelling south on the A470 and having past the Griffin many times, and having heard that there was good food, we stopped. Cue a major faux pas - I innocently asked if they did "bar meals", looking for something quick to eat, not...More

Despite locals telling us there is a high turnover in staff the cooking was excellent when we visited. The amouse bouche was a cup of tomato soup - delicious with sourdough bread. Starters were a large oak smoked salmon fish cake with greens and the...More

Four of us celebrated a birthday at The Griffin. We sat in the bar area but were able to eat from the restaurant menu. Our food was well presented by assiduous but unobtrusive and very helpful staff. We ordered a range of meals, including fish...More

Dear Ryan We don't impose any effective dress code on guests. Trousers probably best at this time of year, but no requirement for a coat or for a tie. We just hope you have a good supper with us. Please do call us if we... More

  • This restaurant is at The Felin Fach Griffin
The exterior of Brecon’s Felin Fach Griffin may be of ‘another country pub’ but step inside and it’s almost as if chintz and row upon row of horse brasses never happened. Boldly coloured walls and plush leather couches sit happily alongside scrubbed wooden tables and chairs and historic beams, but it’s the food that we’re here for…the very food that has critics raving and the awards piling up. Locally sourced ingredients, including a selection from the restaurant’s own kitchen garden, provide a centrepiece for glorious dishes full of imagination. Make the most of melt in the mouth mains and to die for desserts but remember to leave room for the spectacular selection of Welsh cheeses which really make the meal. The Felin Fach Griffin has won the Best Family Restaurant award for the United Kingdom in the 2008 Good Food Guide.
