The food was generally very good. Ordered some new dishes so if we didn’t like them it wasn’t because they were bad, our tastes were just different. The attention and service was excellent. Everyone was friendly. The food delivered hot and not all at once...which was appreciated. We will gladly go there againMore

Very disappointed ☹️ our table waited one hour for our food. They have VIP rooms that get serviced first. Finally our plates came out one by one with a 10 to 15 minute wait in between each dish, while other people got there and they...were getting their dishes in 10 minutes. DO NOT ORDER THE RICE WITH SHREDDED PORK AND SHRIMP PASTE!!!!! ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE! SO SALTY WAS UNABLE TO EAT. Spoke to the manager he said order something else next time. I thought oh believe me there will not be a next time. Did not even have the decency or class to remove off our bill.More

Hadn't been to Chef Tony for a long time so thought I would try it before the Michelin ratings came out. Made a reservation for lunch. Now I understand that many Chinese restaurants in Vancouver allow their good customers to bypass the line and I...understand you have to wait at Chinese restaurants but this was ridiculous. The hostess didn't even acknowledge us so basically reservations mean nothing. They just put you at the back of the cue as if you are a walk in. She basically had the demeanor of a bouncer at a night club. Perhaps it is the position as she had lots of people hovering over her but after around 20 minutes and having no clue when our table would be ready, we just left. If Michelin rates them, it can't be real as I can't see how anyone who isn't a regular would get a table. Perhaps it is better at dinner but lunch is a gong show. Total chaos. There are so many great Chinese restaurants in Richmond so the attitude that their customers don't mean anything is really atrocious. I have seen many of these restaurants come and go. They live off their laurels and then one day, people just stop coming because other restaurants surpass them in terms of food quality and service.More

Inovative use of ingredients and artful presentation elevate this dim sum. There are the usual offerings but some are works of art. And the flavors! The lava salty egg bun and the duck-stuffed bun must be tried. Go with a group so you can taste...more dishes. The service was fast and friendly. Every dish came fresh and hot. One after the other, not all at the same time. If you prefer a quieter environment, ask to be seated in one of the private party rooms. I can't wait to go back! Make reservations!More

In the Asian food heaven that is Richmond, I think Chef Tony does well to meet the universally good standard of Cantonese food. I believe that it is a recommended place for dimsum, but I only had a chance to have dinner there. As far...as Cantonese dishes go, its much better to enjoy with a group of people because portions are big and more variety can be enjoyed. My partner and I tried 咸鱼猪肉饼 (steamed pork patty) and the 海鲜豆腐煲 (seafood & tofu claypot) - they were both good and taste as well as we expected for well done Cantonese food. However, I do feel that prices are high and food of similar (or even better) quality can be found in other areas or Richmond, or in Markham/Richmond Hill in Toronto. There were dishes like veggies priced ridiculously… but they do provide complementary dessert which would likely be a bean soup (red/green). All in all - for Cantonese dishes, Chef Tony is good, meeting up to standard and performing in par with the benchmark. However, I personally find it pricey and not much of a standout in taste, creativity, novelty or value when compared to peers.More

It's an overpriced mildly fusioned Chinese food. Anything with black truffle will cost you dearly! You can have the same dim sum dishes somewhere else in Vancouver for less money.

We ate at Chef Tony after reading lots of recommendations for the restaurant and checking out the website. It was very different than I expected. It was a fairly regular Chinese restaurant-a room with tables. We had a seat by a fish tank full of...interesting creatures. We ordered dim sum from a menu and were served tea. It was a fairly late lunch, so we were told that the last orders would be taken soon. We ordered five items--spring rolls, siu mai, har gow, egg tarts and a baked mushroom pastry. Everything was very tasty and just a little bit different. For example, the egg tarts were made with egg whites. The quality of the food ingredients was very good. It was definitely better than a standard dim sum restaurant. For tea and 5 items, it was about $42 Canadian. That was about the same as other nice dim sum restaurants in Richmond. It was a good experience.More

I have high expectation of Cantonese food in Vancouver/Richmond. The traditional dishes for dinner and dim sum for lunch are just slightly above average for me. However, the lau-sau-bau is excellent!

Quickly seated at 1130 on a Thursday. Promptly ignored until we got up to wave someone down to take our food order (you fill out the paper that they leave at your table). The truffle shui mai was overcooked, tough to chew, and awkward in...texture. Just a faint hint of truffle for $8. The regular har gow and black ink har gow were fine. Not much seasoning or salt in any of the dishes. The mushroom pastry had excellent pastry but once again the mushroom filling lacked any seasoning or salt. The coconut pudding bunnies were fine. Overall, more than $40 for five types of OK dim sum. We had to exert extreme amounts of energy to receive any service whatsoever. Once we had the waiter’s attention it was fine, but overall we were ignored. He was not rude but just was not interested in making an effort. Oh yeah - the water glass I was given still had lip stains on it from previous patrons — not cool.More

Chef Tong Seafood Restaurant is located on No. 3 Rd Richmond. It has been popular for a while. The same as many other Chinese restaurants in Richmond. This restaurant opens twice per day and between 3 pm – 5 pm the restaurant closes. It serves...Dim Sum in the morning and seafood in the afternoon. At the early year, dad’s friends invite me and my fiance to go to this place to have a try. We had such a great experience at this restaurant. Environment: Chef Tong Seafood is on 4600 No.3Rd #101, Richmond. The location is in between of Lansdowne Station and Aberdeen Station. Between these two stations, there are so many Chinese restaurants. Chef Tong Seafood is one of them. It’s very surprising to me that Chef Tong is one of the most popular ones. Since so many restaurants around, it’s easy to find the parking around the restaurant. We arrived at Chef Tong around 10:30 when it just opened. It was already a huge lineup outside the door. After waiting about 15 – 20 mins, we finally got into the door. Inside the restaurant, it’s all traditional Chinese Restaurant settings, nice and warm. Service: Once we sat down, the servers brought us the menu to take a look. At the same time. They served us tea and hot water. Food: There are five of us. We have ordered lots of food for brunch. All the food came out of the kitchen one by one. They are all in great quality and fresh. Most importantly, they are tasted delicious. We had Deep-fried Chinese donut $3.00, Shrimp and matsutake dumplings $6.88, Ground beef ball $6.88, Choy sum and preserved vegetable in brine $10.95, Steamed bun filled with salty egg yolk lave $8.28, Baked barbequed pork buns $6.38, Baked barbequed pork buns $6.38, seafood sauce bean curd $6.88, small ribs with black beans $$6.88, Marinated Chicken Trimmed with radish, red onion, and pickles $24.80/half, and etc. Final Thoughts: The food in Chef Tony has great quality and representation. Highly recommend people to have a try. I heard they will open another location in Metrotown. Definitely, we will go there when it opens.More

We made a reservation for a Sunday lunch. We have to wait despite the reservation. The ambience was reasonable, bright and comfortable though crowded. And by the way it beats me why people would queue up to eat here! The service was slow, not at...all attentive, considering it is a fine dining restaurant with the price to match. We basically have to help ourselves a few times with extra bowl, paper towel etc. The food was small portion - the chicken wing stuffed with glutinous rice was one small chicken wing per portion that cost more than CAD 8, sure the skin was crispy but it didn’t taste anything special. The egg yolk bun tasted just like the frozen one from supermarket despite the black so called charcoal skin! Same with the SPECIAL prawn dumpling just because it was black supposedly with truffle ( one small bit of it! ). This is a classic restaurant that defined “ pretentious “ without substance.....and just because the wall has lots of photo of famous Hong Kong film stars visiting the place??? Give me a break! Save your money and eat somewhere else, Vancouver has lots and lots of eating places including Dim Sum places.More

Hear the aircrafts coming in to land, walk into the Chef Tony and feel like uou just landed in Hong Kong. Busy, loud, people on cell phone, lack of careing staff - all with little or no time for customer service. However, the food is...really good and really pricey for chinese reastaurants. Asparagus sauteed with black truffel sauce was our favourite. Good dumplings too.Not to crazy about the black eggs.More

I am born in Hong Kong and have eaten in many dim sum restaurants. This is the best one in Vancouver (and I’ve been eating dim sum here since 1983). The rice flour rolls are the right thickness. The steamed buns are puffy and well...filled. The spicy clams with chives were delicious. Service was pleasant. All was great and we will be back.More

went for dim sum so drank tea. Assume they have wine list as they have vip rooms for big spenders of $500+ for dinner.
