This restaurant is interesting because of its name, Plates ---- No not the ones you eat off of but the the ones attached to your car or truck (i.e., license plates from numerous locations and dates that are prominently displayed throughout the restaurant). The food can generally be described as diner or country style and servings are generous. The very... More

Went with a group from work. Everyone enjoyed their lunch and the prices were very fair. Service was good. It could use a little freshing up inside..looks dated.

Picked this out of the many places in town for breakfast and were very pleasantly surprised. Almost everyone can make a reasonable breakfast but Plates takes it up a notch. Not by quantity or quality but over all. The service is friendly and cheerful, the food is as good as any, the atmosphere is comfortable, the coffee is very good.... More

I will not go back. The food was bland and the service just sucked. I understand if you're busy and don't have time to quality check, but if you're not busy you need to check on your patrons at least once. Lame that the first time was so terrible.

I had high hopes for this place and it was incredibly average. The one thing it has going for it was an exceptional staff. My server was a real joy. My special was a sad little offering and I still left mildly happy.

Chose as an untried option when in Courtenay, and was close to where we were. Hype was the all-day breakfast, which took up one entire side of the menu. The other menu was very much fried/diner type meals. Three of our party opted for breakfast choices. Corned beef hash was good meal for the price, although corned beef was cubed... More

More familiar with their breakfasts than other menu options, but decent bang for your buck. Had the " all or nothing" breakfast which consists of your choice of 5 pancakes or 3 French toast, plus 3 sausages, 3 bacon, 2 eggs, hash browns and toast, ringing in at $15.99. The bacon was a little overdone today, but generally you can... More

Fun atmosphere especially if you are keen on old cars. The walls are decorated with old number plates and photographs of old time cars! Outside patio in the good weather, and Steve's roast beef is a sepal treat! The wait staff are friendly and helpful and if you want, seniors portions are available! They also do outside catering, or you... More

I like their menu, cost varies and they have specials every day. Free soda refills . The staff are always courteous and if you are handicapped, they go the extra mile...except there is no automatic door opener for those in wheelchair. The décor is themed with plates, meaning vintage license plates from countries all over the world and gas pumps... More

Came for a family brunch over the holidays - not too impressed. While I'm sure they couldn't help the plumbing problem that knocked out their washrooms, the food just wasn't at all impressive. I have had a few decent breakfasts there, but the family member who ordered a burger said it was the worst they had tasted (even rated it... More
