If you visit Puerto Rico and you don't go here, you haven't been in P.R.! The best roast pork in town and a lot of PUERTORICAN goodies. Good sangria and tipical juices. They have also around there a few places of different things and souvenirs to buy.

How this place is not reviewed as Number 1 is beyond me. The restaurant is nestled between numerous restaurants offering the same fare. Puerto Rican pork on a spit, with rice peas, tostones ect. The line was 20-30 deep, although it moved very quickly. None of the other restaurants had half the foot traffic. The pork was as succulent as... More

A favorite place in the cooler hills where San Juanistas go to escape the heat. Guavate on weekends is a carnival of roast pig, cheap beer and music. There are lots of eateries but this is one of the oldest. This place has multi level outdoor seating on a large scale. A plate of chopped lechon straight from the machete... More

We eat here every time we do a Sunday morning trip to Guavate. Plan to get there at 11 or so. Plenty of parking. Walk aound for an hour or so and shop the many booths loaded with souvenirs and crafty type products and all the knock-offs of course. We had beef sausage, pastel, garden salad and yellow rice with... More

We stopped there, since we heard some country music and saw people dancing. The servers were uninterested in clients, food was oversalted. I feel lucky I did not get sick, since pork was not cooked. It was even pinkish in color. Would never go back.

Took a trip across hway 184 to Guavete to check out the leachoneras people talk about. The drive is nice through the hills and the views are pretty with many diffent stands and shacks to stop in and try the food. We stopped at El Rancho due to recommendations and enjoyed the live music, cheap cold beer, dancing and overall... More

We had not had lechón before, but had had porchetta in Italy which is very similar. We ordered lechón, blood sausage and a gazillion sides. It would also have been possible to have turkey, but we did not take the healthier option! The lechón was GREAT, the sides were what they were...typically starchy Puerto Rican country food, yucca, sweet potato,... More

Description
Literally that’s what this is, mouth watering lechon asado (roasted pig). Not a pork lover relax the menu has plenty to choose from. Ranch Original is located in Guavate about a 45min drive from San Juan on route 185 along the Cordillera Mountain Range. Also commonly known as pork highway. Make sure your stomach is ready to growl because you will need the space. There will be no shortage of food, spirits, music and dancing. Travel Channel Samantha Brown, Anthony Bourdain No Reservation and Andrew Zimmern Bizarre Foods are no strangers to this area. Every week end there's a festival like atmosphere with live music to dance your heart away and the few ounces you may have gained. The area is inundated with lechoneras whose specialty is seasoned slow roasted whole pig. Finger licking good. The pig is usually roasted for about 6 - 8 hours which ensures that the pork is pact with flavor, moist and tender. The roasted pig is not the only delicacy on the menu: as you will find roast chicken, turkey, morcillas (blood sausage) and numerous side dishes, including: rice and beans, rice with pigeon peas, tostones, mofongo, sweet potato and much more.
