Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Good food but not easy to get to. If you are a non-resident driving a rental, be prepared for curvy, mountain roads with no shoulder. That said the roads were nice smooth blacktop. Los Pinos is probably the farthest destination on the Pork Highway but...we enjoyed the cafeteria style food and friendly service. The morcilla, bacaloa and empanadilla conejo were standouts of our meal!More

THE PORK RIBS. We finished and then bought another order. OMG. Looks like it might be a party on weekends - stage and tons of seating.

The only reason you would visit this area would be to try their roast pig. If that is not your thing, don't bother coming to this area as there is nothing else to do or eat. If roast pig one of your favorite, you need...to visit. There are other things to eat besides the pig but they are not that good. This area is full of other Lechonera serving the same fare. Except for the size of the eating area, most the the lechonera offer and almost identical experience. So you can't go wrong with any of the top 5. Los Pinos is supposed to be the original and largest one. All of them are by the side of a highway and you will most like need at least a half hour ride in a taxi or Uber.More

Being foodies, and having seen this on Anthony Bourdains list for what he described as the best pork on the planet, this was a must visit while visiting PR. We rented a car and took the 50 minute drive. I don't know, everyone has a...bad day and every piece or meat is different as someone who smokes meat I get it. This was a total disappointment, we ordered a pound of pork, arroz con gandules, plantains and a slice of cheesecake and of course drinks. The pork should have been the star and was not at all tender, it was tough and super salty, like inedible salty after 2 pieces I closed it up. The Plaintains and arroz con gandules were very good but the pork just fell flat for us on our visit.More

We drove from Dorado to Guavate upon the recommendation of the hotel staff. I like to taste the famous Puerto Rican lechón and everyone we talked to recommended this place. I am from the Philippine and we have a lechón also.

There are many places to eat in Cayey, on the Pork Highway. We chose Los Pinos because the line was shorter. And there was no loud music! Just the loud cars driving by. The food was plentiful and tasted very good.

A visit to Guavate is a must for foodies in Puerto Rico. This town is full of Lechonera’s which serve traditional mouthwatering Lechon (roasted pig). However, once arriving, it’s overwhelming to decide which one to visit. Lechonera Los Pinos is seemingly the most popular because...it was featured by Anthony Bourdain years ago but I ultimately chose to visit here because family living in the area also recommended it. Yes! Lechonera Los Pinos lives up to the hype! The Lechon was some of the best I have ever tried: super tender, meaty and juicy with juicy crisp skin. However, the additional menu items were also phenomenal. I had flavorful and savory Arroz con Gandules, tender and citrusy Ensalada De Pulpo (octopus), starchy Pasteles De Masa filled with tender pork, rich, flavorful and savory Morcilla (blood sausage), and lightly sweet and starchy Batata (sweet potato).More

Service very slow. By the time I paid for the order, the food was cold. In addition, no price list displayed anywhere, you don't know what you are paying until you get to the cash register. Based on this experience, it is very unlikely to...return to the establishment. Very dissapointed!!!More

Visited Guavate after almost three years away due to earthquakes, pabdemic, etc. I was VERY disappointed with the quality and flavor. My pernil is well known and taste 100 times better. A friend from Cayey makes cuajos and all the other complements that taste 10ry...blend just like hospital meals. The flan was ok, my wife makes killer flans of all types, tembleque and more 100 times better. Guess this is my last trip to Guavate which has become overated and over-priced.More

While some may find it strange that a person who travels to dine does not watch “Food Television” the fact remains, but on the same day as a trip to El Yunque National Forest the opportunity to visit Puerto Rico’s famous “Pork Highway” proved impossible...to resist. Locally known as La Ruta del Lechón, a dozen or more Restaurants at elevation on a winding road in Guavate, it is following the 45 minute drive from San Juan that travelers will find Lechonera Los Pinos, a bit of rain and pandemic precautions seeing few guests at 9:30am even though staff and Food were ready to go. Found along Route 184, stories of visits by Andrew Zimmern and Anthony Bourdain prominent across Social Media, it is from the parking lot that the smell of cookery becomes prominent, the friendly all-Spanish servers helping first-timers navigate a menu loaded with Proteins and Starches. Open air and spacious, the sort of place already designed for spreading out long before “social distancing,” it was after watching an older man hack bits of Pork from the whole Hog with a machete that seats were taken, Los Pinos’ Lechon perfectly seasoned with rendered Fat glistening beneath skin that shatters like glass with a smoky finish. More than just Lechon Asado, Rice with Pigeon Peas and sides of Sauteed Plantains plus tender Yam also delicious, those in search of more Pork will do well to order both garlicky Longaniza and boldly flavored Blood Sausage with Rice before wrapping up with individual Tres Leches in a small aluminum cup.More
