Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Sunday lunch at the four horseshoes used to be a memorable occasion for the right reasons, however, last Sunday we were all very disappointed. Despite it being a full house our Sunday lunch consisted of frozen roast potatoes and yorkshire pudding, bland stuffing, tough beef,...tasteless pulled pork and the pork crackling was actually a few pork scratchings on the side of the plate. The cauliflower cheese was a side and paid extra. Expected better for the price that we paid. We will not be hurrying back.More

My wife had been given the responsibility of choosing somewhere for us to go for dinner and decided we’d go to the Four Horseshoes at Thornham, a pub/restaurant we had not been to in over 20 years. All I can say is WOW! From the...minute we walked through the door the service was perfect, with the staff being extremely friendly whilst remaining professional. Tracy and Kiera were truly a pleasure to be served by. There were 4 people in our party and we all had a main course & a dessert, and not one of us left anything on our plates - the food was extremely good quality pub food (the chefs special cheesecake dessert & sticky toffee pudding were particularly good). Highly recommend a visit to anyone as, if your experience is anything like ours, you will not be disappointed & will look forward to going back.More

What a lovely traditional pub. Popped in last weekend whilst on a bike ride. Super friendly staff, Tracey was amazing, very welcoming, we could of stayed all day though eventually had to cycle on. We will definitely be returning with the rest of the family.

Had a fabulous birthday meal here. The food was absolutely amazing. I had Beef and Gammon. Portion sizes were amazing, the food was stunning. So flavourful & delicious. I even had a birthday card waiting for me at table. The girls are so lovely as...well as Tom the landlord, they are all so friendly, but special must go to Tracy who goes above and beyond. We stopped here after exploring the local area and having been out for a walk we needed food. First impressions as we walked in were nothing but charming. We hadn’t booked but the waitress found us a table and was nothing but lovely. Once our...drinks arrived I couldn’t decide what to get from the menu and I asked the waitress what she thought, she was patient and friendly throughout our visit. Overall we are glad we found this lovely little stop and will be coming back againMore

Staying in an air bnb down the road, this place came highly recommended by the owner. We booked it a week before and were looking forward to it. What transpired was possibly the most shocking thing I have experienced in a restaurant. We arrived and...sat at our table and asked about drinks. Not being locals I noted different ales on the menu that I haven’t tried so asked if I could possibly try a little of one. The comment back from the waitress was ‘oh would you like to try it, I can guarantee you will like it said is a sarcastic manner. I tried the ale and said it was nice to which she said I told you so and looks like you got some free ale. My partner and I commented that she seemed a little surly but let it go. We ordered our meals, steak and ale pie and fish platter, both around 20 pounds a meal. Expecting a nice hearty pie with some chunky chips, what turned up was not. The pie wasn’t in a dish, but had essentially been an oval shape pie dish and cut into 1/3. In total it had 4 bits of meat and a few mushrooms and gravy. What made it worse was the chips were not even cooked through and raw in the middle. I raised the uncooked chips with the waitress to which she laughed. Another waitress (lady who took our order) approached us and said she heard there was a problem with the chips. Asking if id like more. We were not happy by this point and I said I was fine. To which She responded I can see your tempted so will bring you some and you can have them if you want. No apologies, just another surly comment. the other main mean contained 3 glass containers (likely old Gu pudding containers) with the different fish dishes. 4 bits of thumb sized toast to eat with and some dry salad with no dressing. 20 pounds a meal for this kind of food was pushing it, but we are not the type to complain, but the rude service was outrageous and a step too far. We ate some of the meals and asked for the bill. Upon departing, my partner said the meal wasn’t acceptable and the service was worse. We added that laughing to raw food was just a joke. They initially tried to persuade us to have pudding and said they are very nice, again some comment around us being tempted. I responded saying I wasn’t tempted in the slightest to eat anything else in this place. Having paid the bill she then returned with the first apology offering us a free brownie dessert to which we declined and said they would be hearing from us in a review. For context, we were still both hungry as we wanted a nice meal out, so drove back towards our air bnb and decided to get pudding and drinks in the Pub the White Horse down the road. The service was excellent, the main meals looked lovely and both puddings were extremely tasty. Both waiters were lovely people. The contrast was stark. Clearly the Four Horseshoes spends its money on the external building as it looks lovely from the outside, inside it’s a little tired but the food and service was absolutely appalling. Maybe they get away with this as it’s a hotel and there isn’t much else around the area. If we travel here from Kent again, we will go to the white horse and I’d highly recommend others do the same.More

Popped in this wonderful pub for a drink one afternoon.A very warm welcome from the staff and Tracy even bought a little hand written note on a plate of biscuits for our dog Jack.We came back the next day for lunch and wasn't disappointed with...the food either.(a great menu and love that it has a seperate page with gluten, vegan and dairy free options)Got talked into having the daily special of chocolate cheesecake with honeycomb icecream. I'm so glad I did,it was huge and so tasty, made fresh by the chef Sarah.Would love to return in the summer if we come this way again.Thankyou to all the staff, especially Tracy for a lovely experience.More

I booked a room here for Valentine's for my husband and I as we had eaten here many times before and really wanted to stay overnight👍 We were greeted and shown our room where we had time to relax and get ready for dinner.. we...had a table for the evening and even on Valentine's the chef cooked us something that wasn't on the menu.. For breakfast we couldn't manage the amazing breakfast, so again we requested a plate of fresh fruit, along with cereal tea toast honey and orange juice. It was delicious We will definitely be backMore

Yes, dogs are welcome in our bar area and beer garden. There would be no problem at all with getting a carvery at 2:45 but a call ahead would always be appreciated. We hope to see you soon!
