Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Lovely to see this great rural pub back thriving. Good beer and very enjoyable food- the homemade soup and the generous duck spring rolls were excellent starters, followed by tasty scampi and delicious fish and chips. The staff were well trained and helpful and we...will be back!More

Popped in after a lovely walk nearby today. I spotted on FACEBOOK and on the sign down the road that they have on offer fish and chips for 9.95. Seemed a great deal along with the bread and butter and pot of tea. Service was...excellent, pub is as ever lovely inside with it roaring fires. Sadly the food was rather poor quality, the fish was very soggy and mushy inside the quite thin batter. The fish fillet is obviously frozen which I would expect, however I was disappointed that it was a cheap fillet of catfish or as now advertised in shops basa. Please chef correct me if I'm wrong here. The mushy peas were dry and flavourless and how the bread had been buttered was laughable. Cold hard butter pressed onto the bread, just leave it out to soften or allow the customer to spread themselves. The chips were delicious, and appeared to be home cooked and fresh, i could be wrong. Annoyingly when I paid the tab the meal was actually 10.95 not 9.95 as edvertised elsewhere. Would I visit again YES, would I recommend to others ABSOLUTELY. I will stick to my usual pie meal next time I visit.More

Excellent pub with a warm fire and warm welcome. The Ship is a traditional country pub serving excellent JWLees beer and some unusual and fantastic food. I had the steak and Stilton homemade pie and it was possibly the best pie I have ever tasted....The friends we were with are regulars but it was our first time but definitely not the last we will be returning very soon.More

A shame more pubs aren’t like this. Great traditional pub with good atmosphere and great food. The staff are very friendly and we really enjoyed our visit to the area.

I can't praise this pub highly enough. The food is fantastic, the decor is totally in keeping and the staff that I've met so far are professional and courteous. I've only been twice but it's now been added to my faves. It's down a long,...leafy country lane and is very cosy inside. I'd recommend the steak&kidney pudding but be warned - it's big. I don't know if they do doggie bags for the smaller eater - perhaps take a spare tupperware box just in case... I had the autumnal bitter (can't remember its name) and would also recommend that.More

So welcoming with a menu to suit everyone! I love that there are three dining areas: smart cosy dining room, stone floored general dining, and bar area where the locals will make you feel at home. Wonderful food from Jim and a warm welcome from...Christine. Our favourite pub, better than ever in their hands!More

We called in for lunch after a long walk and were immediately made to feel very welcome. This beautiful traditional pub is very well maintained and really cosy. The open fire was great to dry us off! Our home cooked meals came out very quickly...and were beautifully presented. The food was delicious. Absolutely top notch and highly recommended!More

About 40 years ago we last visited The Ship….then we moved abroad until fairly recently when we returned to the U.K. Touring our old haunts we came across The Ship and popped in this lunchtime. We were not disappointed. The food was excellent, well cooked..., nicely presented and served promptly. The whole place felt comfortable and welcoming. Thank you for reviving old memories… we will be back!More

Excellent pub! Friendly welcome knowledgeable staff - great drinks on tap, beer garden petite but beautiful, great selection of food available all through the afternoon til 8 on Saturday so no rush to catch the lunch service or wait for dinner service which is brilliant...if walking locally. We had kofta and lamb burger, both fantastic and served quickly - all deliciously and freshly made. Excellent work from the kitchen and excellent friendly service from front of house. Top drawerMore

You have to park on the road , it’s quite narrow , you should be ok , it’s not too far a walk , worth it because the pub is great .
