My friend booked us a table at this local pub. We were seated but then it seems forgotten about. Took us ages to put our food order in, ages to get our food and had to pay each time we ordered something whereas we expected to pay at the end of our visit like you do when you go out for a meal. One member of staff was very abrupt, the others quite scruffy looking. The food, when it finally arrived, was very nice but we were very hungry so would of eaten anything.

Stayed at the Rose and Crown to attend a wedding at nearby Syrencot (it's a very quick taxi ride - about 10 mins). The rooms were lovely and just what you need - they look like they've been recently refurbished. Plenty of teas and coffees provided and a very comfy bed. There wasn't a hairdryer, which wasn't an issue for me but just to mention. We didn't eat at the pub as we arrived Sunday afternoon and food had finished, but there was a great selection of beers on tap. A very nice beer garden too that I can imagine would be a bit of a suntrap on a better day! Staff were very friendly and helpful and we were left with a key to come and go once the pub had shut (not to the actual pub, more's the pity)! And just to really praise the customer service - I accidentally left a special earring in the room and the wonderful staff took the time to go and look for it after I emailed them. They found it and returned it to me by post which just went over and above and I was very grateful! Would definitely stay again.

I've read resent reviews from 23rd June 2021, this is totally unjustified and untrue. On said day a local Gurkha Squadron were in the garden, as was I waiting for my meal. I was given the rules and regulations, and followed them as requested. But as the night went on, the Gurkha's and thier officers paid total disregard to staff requests and other members of public. I witnessed some unreasonable behaviour to staff, some members from the Gurkha party were rude to staff members. The party was told a number of times, to keep seated and still ingorned requests from staff.

We have lived in the village for 20 years and used to frequent this pub regularly, until it was taken over by some undesirable landlords. When we heard that it was under new management we thought we would give it ago. We went for our second visit this evening to sample the food. We were in a party of 5, we ordered 2 portions of Nachos as a starter,3 fish and chips 1 burger and chips and 1 ham egg and chips. We waited 45 minutes for the nachos to arrive at the table, they were slightly burnt at the edges but edible, whilst we were still eating our starters the main meals were brought to the table which anybody in the trade knows this is a big no no. The 3 fish and chips that came to the table the fish was over cooked and just looked like it was out of a Birds Eye box the chips were also overcooked, the burger was extremely dry and over cooked. One of our party ( a qualified chef) went to the bar to speak to the landlord, he suggested they went outside to discuss this out of respect as the bar was busy, the landlady's partner also came out and rolled up his sleeves as if he was expecting trouble, this was not the case. The landlady then came over to the table and was very rude to us. When I said that they really should look after the locals (bearing in mind it is in a village location) the landlady insinuated that we were not locals. She tried to tell us that we had eaten half of the meals, I hadn't even finished 1 half of the burger before I couldn't eat anymore. I suggest if they want to make a go of this business then maybe concentrate on all of their patrons not just the group that they sit at the table with.

Hi Sugar P, I am very disappointed to have received the above review and can only apologise that your experience was not up to our usual standard. I did check back twice to ask if your meals were ok but as you said, you waited until the end of the meal to approach me and I did try my best to resolve the issue and did take meals off your bill because you were not happy. The nachos came out with your mains as you requested. I am sorry that you had to wait 45mins, we do try our hardest to get food out as quickly as possible but the night in question was very busy and with the current Covid situation does bring its own challenges as we are operating in very strange times right now and appreciate that things are not perfect every time. The Rose & Crown welcomes everyone, locals and new faces alike and we are just trying to do our best right now. I can only apologise again.

Myself and my husband went for lunch today with my sister in law and her husband and our 3 children. Upon arrival we were told that there was only roast on the menu with no alternative options (even for the kids). After ordering we were then re advised that actually there was another menu so we all had a look and re ordered. Whilst we were looking at the menu, the chef came out of the kitchen moaning quite loudly about the fact that the dishwasher was broken and that she had no help in the kitchen. The food then arrived and was extremely disappointing. The roast dinner my husband and sister in law ordered was quite sparse, tasteless, the beef was tough and the gravy was basically water. The burger my brother in law ordered was hard and burnt and the Brie bites I ordered were undercooked. We all agreed we would have had better supermarket microwave meals. The waitress serving us didn’t look professional at all and was wearing tracksuit trousers and a jumper, she didn’t look like she worked there. There was another lady serving behind the bar who was quite abrupt and unwelcoming. After our meals we decided not to order dessert as the mains were so poor so just asked for our bills as we paid separately. Between us the total cost came to just shy of £80! A total rip off for the awful food and poor service we received! We felt really uncomfortable there so we finished as quickly as we could and left. No one said goodbye or thank you, it felt like we were just stared at as we left. It definitely felt like more of a locals pub and that outsiders were not welcome. Rest assured we will never be going back.

We are sorry you felt this way about your visit. We try to accommodate everyone. We were busy and tried to accommodate your late booking of 7 people as best we could, this included children who were wondering around. Covid rules are in place to protect staff and customers. If you had mentioned the food situation at the time of your visit this could of been addressed at the time and not after the visit with reviews.

Food wasn’t good. Nobody came to check see if our meals were ok. One guest in our party has severe onion & garlic allergies which we made staff aware of at the time of ordering. When food did come out it did so in dribs & drabs and the person in our party with allergies had onions on their plate and a sauce which we don’t even know what was in it, we told the waitress/bar person about this and she took it away, couple of minutes later brought back out the same plate of food minus the salad/onions! Steak had already been contaminated and we hadn’t even gotten in the car and said guest has been sick in the car park!! We brought this to the attention of staff and all we got was ‘sorry’!!! Steaks were over cooked, dry and tough, schnitzel over cooked and dry pie wasn’t the best and even the chips were over done and not up to much. If you’re wanting a good meal whilst in this area, don’t go here and go to the crown inn instead in cholderton

Went to this location with family on the 8th October for a family meal, the place was cold and did not listen to the orders taken and the fact there was a allergy to onions and onion family also ordered two rare steaks both came medium to well the allergy plate came with onions on it was sent back then came with a new salad with some sauce on it . Now taking the fact of the allergy to onions they wouldn’t put anything with onions in it on. No the person ended up I’ll being sick and getting a severe migraine for the rest of the day and night

I was very happy with my visit. I’ve spotted some very vicious reviews left by what I assume to be deluded individuals who don’t value the rustic british pub atmosphere. But I couldn’t be happier with the staff, the food was incredible and I would recommend this venue to anyone. Thanks for having us!

Have been going to the Rose & Crown for a year now every Tuesday night for the quiz & food. The quizzes are great, the foods good and relatively well priced all around. The one thing that ALWAYS ruins the evening is the landlady of all people. She is obnoxious, rude and has no idea of how to speak to people. She integrates stupid rules with no rhyme or reason such as not being able to stand at a tall table, she shouts across the bar at people and always puts a dampener on the evening. All of the bar stuff are lovely, except for her. I’ve never once seen her smile or welcome a customer nicely, she always has a face on and is always grumpy and toxic no matter what. Absolutely appalling service from her and not behaviours or attitudes of that of a landlady. We will not be returning here unless new management is put in place of someone who actually knows how to run a pub decently with a nice atmosphere, and knows how to speak with and greet her regular customers. Note she apparently “prioritises” walk ins over bookings - we had forgotten to book a table for one quiz night and turned up where there were 4 tables available. We were unable to sit at any of them in case they had “walk ins” Absolutely unbelievable and genuinely don’t understand how she is still in a position of running a pub. It’s a great shame as the pub is lovely and nice to go to for a few drinks with friends.

We have visited the Rose and Crown on many occasions. The food is freshly home cooked and tastes delicious. The new menu includes something for everyone (vegetarian etc) and everything we have tried, has been wonderful. The staff are welcoming and there is a good, friendly atmosphere. If you need anything, they are all happy to oblige. I would recommend this lovely pub to all.

Lovely place in a beautiful Wiltshire village. A warm welcome was had on our arrival, very clean spacious and a good selection of Main meals and light lunches. The steak and ale pie is amazing full to the brim with tender melt in the mouth beef and the vegetables were cooked to perfection. Ample car parking and not far from the A303 near Amesbury

We had booked a table for 8 for the Friday of BH weekend. On arrival we headed for the bar and were told the bar was closed as they needed to restock. We explained we had a table booked and they looked surprised but did show us to a table. We eventually managed to order drinks at the bar however when we went up to order food we were told that they didn’t have any food. The list of what they didn’t have was extensive so we decided to leave. No apologies. We had walked over from amesbury and now needed to get back there to find something to eat. I’d never been to the rose and crown before but has been told the food was good so decided to try it. Never again. Why let us sit down and order drinks knowing they had no food. Would it not have been better to call us before we arrived or at least tell us when we arrived they had no food. I can’t understand how they were surprised that the Friday of a BH weekend, half-term and sunny would be busy. What s shambles!

We met here for supper just after the new people took over and had a fabulous meal with very friendly and attentive staff taking great care of us. The pub was quiet tho once word gets around about the new management am sure it will get more busy! The beef burger was delicious with added bacon and salad, the vegetarian fish pie was a real hit and my meal was delicious. Definitely a step above normal pub grub. Reasonably priced too. The dog was welcomed and given biscuits. A great place to eat for us all.

We had a booking here for a group, the owner assumed we weren't coming as we had enquired about the cancellation policy when one of the guests had a death in her family. She assumed the entire booking was cancelled rather than continuing with the 7 who she had the deposit for. After watching her argue and be rude and hostile to the group even making one cry she reluctantly agreed to give the deposit back. As she should it was her mistake. No apology and no attempt at rectification. Please avoid. There are a few rival pubs around who have had similar stories from customers. Do your research!

Hi there, Thank you for bringing this to our attention but as always there is two sides to every story. The manager had made it very clear to the lady booking that unless she heard from her by a certain day, she would have no choice but to cancel the booking in its entirety. This point was made very clear and nobody made any attempt to contact her again. It was all very unfortunate what transpired and I am very sorry to hear of any customer left in tears but as you will be very aware of, hospitality has been decimated by the pandemic, the current energy and staff staffing crisis, and although this is no excuse for anyone to be rude (which I am sure, the manager never meant to be), life is very tough on general managers at the moment, they are only human and humans can make mistakes or not deal with a certain situation maybe as well as they could have. On behalf of the general manager and myself at head office, sincere apologies.

Popped in for dinner. Rib eye steak was amazing! 18.95 with the trimmings. Service was first class. Screens for sports in the bar and a dining area for food. Specials boards had food around the £9/10 mark. Really enjoyed the evening.
