We had a fabulous evening meal. Friendly, efficient service, a great atmosphere, all the food was delicious and well presented- we had roast partridge, chilli and fish pie along with a great pint of Black Sheep. Desserts were great too. My only suggestion would be to offer a cheese board featuring the excellent local cheeses.

We stayed in Gunnerside for a few days between 27.10.2021 and 30.10.2021 and called in to The Kings Head on two of the evenings
On both occasions we were treated to a warm Yorkshire welcome and seated at our table quickly and easily (I would highly recommend booking as the pub is only small and fills up quickly). Our orders were taken promptly and over the two visits we enjoyed the burger, the chicken curry and the steak and ale pies (with the treat of a sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream on our second visit, just to finish off, you understand !!)
All the food we had was to an extremely high standard and very tasty and we particulalry liked the choice of a medium or small sizing of the burger and the pies although, I have to say that, having gone for the small options, we were certainly full afterwards and really did wonder how big the medium portion was as we had plenty). The Black Sheep bitter was also of a high standard and washed the food down nicely. What's more the cost was very reasonable (and that comes from a tight Lancastrian !!)
There is a really good spirit in this pub which, clearly, comes from a tight knit community that is welcoming to visitors (which isn't always the case) and we thoroughtly enjoyed our visits
We will definitely come again if/when we are next in Gunnerside and would highly recommend The Kings Head

We recently returned from a visit to the Yorkshire Dales, having stayed in Gunnerside, where the local community pub, the Kings Head, is situated. Because of the lockdown it was still only possible to eat outdoors but people flocked to the pub each day, either for a pint of one of the local brews or for a meal, or both. Well, what can I say? You could not wish for better quality food and service! The menu choices had something for everyone and everything was served fresh and hot. We ate there 4 times during our stay and were never disappointed. It was all so delicious, especially the Sunday roast - highly recommended! Even on the colder evenings, people sat outside but we preferred to get a take-away from the pub sometimes. All part of the service! So a big thank you to all the staff at the Kings Head for making our stay so enjoyable. We wish you luck and hope the business keeps growing.

Called in on Friday after a great walk, pub soon filled up so we ordered food bang on 6pm. Food arrived within 20 mins and all 4 of us enjoyed what we ordered although too many oven chips were spoilt it a bit.
Beers were good, Black Sheep, and the staff were really friendly and helpful.
Great to see so many people in later on, just a shame none of them had a local accent!

We stayed in Gunnerside for a week and visited the pub on 3 occasions, dining on two of the visits. This is a community run pub and those associated must be applauded for their endeavours. They are welcoming and the service for drink/food is good.
Unfortunately the ale I had on the first visit wasn’t the best however was better on the next couple of occasions. I cannot share other people’s enthusiasm for the food or definition of homemade. Our experience was it was mainly out of the freezer or a jar (chips, scampi, burgers, curry sauce, etc).
I understand the challenges that hospitality businesses are experiencing because of covid and Brexit and I imagine a community project brings separate, additional challenges. However there is room for significant improvement here. The pub is in the Dales but I didn’t really see too much local produce on offer or food I would classify as homemade.
This is a really good area for walkers/cycling and as the current situation hopefully improves there should be opportunity to maximise trade. I think the pub would benefit from bringing in more local produce and moving away from some of the bought-in, pre-prepared food on the menu.
I would ask the pub reviews the menu/ingredients on offer. I would also encourage people to visit the pub when passing. In these times locals such as the Kings Head should be given as much support as possible.

Just to correct you on a few points.
Firstly, the pub isn’t community run, its community owned and run by a tenant and a small team of locally grown staff.
Secondly, the majority of the menu is homemade and prepared with locally sourced ingredients where possible.
Thirdly, our pre-prepared meals are produced by dedicated industry professionals an example of this is our curry manufacturer, Monalisa, owner of Saffron Tree in Harrogate who is being featured on The Hairy Bikers Go North BBC2 and the iPlayer aired on the 14th October.
I’m glad you understand the current challenges the hospitality industry is facing during this time as I don’t. Maybe that’s were you could channel your literacy efforts in guiding others through this tricky time instead of writing criticism about The Kings Head that you clearly have limited understanding of.
Thank you for your recent patronage and I wish you the best of health over the winter months. I’m currently just warming the Citron 2CV up for a trip over Buttertubs to Howes to pick up 100KG of potatoes and a fat lamb.

We will be back for sure. Lovely that it is a DOG FRIENDLY boozer.
Black sheep on tap very very nice too.

Visited for dinner and lunch on separate days and enjoyed some very nice food, beer and local company. The King's Head oozes warmth, charm and friendly local cuisine which makes it a 'must visit' for anyone staying in the area. Highly recommended.

We really liked the Kings Head. The style of the pub is traditional with a comfortable and up to date feel to the dining area. A nicely balanced, but not too complicated menu, we really enjoyed the curry and the burger. A good selection of puddings too.
Portion sizes were generous and we thought the quality of the food was very good. We found the staff to be friendly and helpful, altogether a really nice night out.

We visited on a Friday evening when service was outdoors only, due to coronavirus restrictions We had lamb curry and vegetarian nut roast. Both portions were generous and well presented. The meals were excellent, and presented to us with very good humour given the difficult circumstances

Visited the kings head 30/7 /22.
Great welcoming on arrival for a pre booked meal for 6 (4 adults and two teenagers) good varied menu and great local history around the Wall’s. Food was served promptly and all of us really enjoyed our grub 😋😋. I personally went for the hot lamb curry!! It was delicious and all the accompaniments that it came with 😋. Really lovely place to eat and drink if your in the area. The hosts were great as were the locals 😂🍺😂

Me and my partner have now eaten at the Kings Head five times and every time the food was great. Every dish was cooked beautifully and packed full of flavour! It is nice to see curries and interesting vegetarian options on the menu too. I'm gutted I didn't get to try the chowder as I was told it was amazing by the people who tried it. I particularly like it that some dishes can also be ordered in a smaller size which means I then have room for dessert! The service is brilliant and the atmosphere is really welcoming. Well worth a visit and I'm delighted this is now my local pub!

It's not been possible to visit the King's Head for a few years so I pleased to find the pub fully operational during my recent brief stay in Muker. Sarah responded promptly to my email requesting a table. On arrival, she was as friendly, welcoming and helpful as I remembered - ably assisted by waiter Toby. I totally agree with another reviewer's comment: the service and the food were excellent. The lemon pud with vanilla ice-cream was the most moist and tasty pud I'd ever eaten. Simply delicious. It was wonderful to see hikers / visitors with their dogs sitting in the bar or outdoor areas chatting happily together [as did some people in the restaurant area too]. It's always been a very popular, friendly and relaxing pub and I'm thrilled to find this has not changed. Thoroughly enjoyed my visit and looking forward to returning soon.

Fabulous little pub. It's been extremely busy over the past few months and we've been unable to get a table for evening meal, but this week we were lucky! The menu is on of the best in Swaledale, if you enjoy homemade curries. I had the lamb and my better half had the chicken. Absolutely wonderful and worth the wait. Good range of real ales and quality wine's. We've often had a sandwich for lunch here as well and never been disappointed. Only downside is that we have to travel from Reeth. Thanks to all the staff.

Came as a family of 7 plus dog for lunch on Wednesday.
A simple menu gave little clue of the treat to come. We all had something different, but everyone enjoyed their meal. Good to see a choice of large or small portions. I had the Wensleydale burger, 2 huge delicious burgers, no gristle or grease, with loads of proper bacon and Wensleydale cheese. Probably the best burger I have ever eaten.
Excellent choice of beers, excellent, friendly service and knowledgeable staff too. A real gem.
We were travelling home the next day, but my son snd his family returned the very next day. Quite a recommendation. We'll worth a visit or three.

It’s been a number of years since I’ve been to Gunnerside and was really pleased to find that the pub was still a going concern as I’d heard it had closed. The pub is warm and friendly with a good choice of draught beers and lagers. The choice of
Sunday lunch includes a vegetarian dish as well as traditional roast beef with Yorkshire pudding.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
