Delicious food but fast service Me and my boyfriend went for dinner on a Saturday night and it was lovely. We had a nice table by the window. The atmosphere is really cool and edgy - nice decor and not too busy. We had poppadoms which were £3 and we got 1.5 poppadoms. I thought this was a bit expensive compared to other restaurants We had a Chinese starter - the crispy chilli beef which was delicious. This was £7 and plenty to share for two. We shared a pilau rice (£3), garlic naan (£3 for 1 piece), a korri gassi chicken (£11) and a railway lamb curry (£12). Everything was delicious. The chicken in particular was amazing. The curry dishes are very reasonably priced for the size of the portions and they are served very nicely. There was a nice selection of dishes. Even better if the service was slower! As I finished each dish the next one was out immediately. It was too fast service. We would’ve appreciated a bit more time between started and main.

Hi. Im glad to hear you and your boyfriend enjoyed your meal with us and appreciate the feedback. I am, however, sorry to hear that you felt the service was too quick. It can be a fast-paced restaurant, especially on a Saturday evening, but it does sound as if you were rushed a little which should not have happened. Thanks again, and we look forward to welcoming you again soon.

My partner and I went to Rock Salt on valentines day with a couple of friends and had some of the best restaurant food we've had in Bristol to date. We are vegetarian, and were able to easily find starters and mains in both the indian and chinese areas of the menu. I had the paneer starter and the prawn chettinad, whilst my partner got the vegetarian dim sum and the prawn chettinad also. Both were fantastic. The service was exemplary; the staff were attentive and friendly and happy to answer any questions about the menu. Despite it being a busy in the restaurant we never felt rushed, and left feeling like valued customers. Would thoroughly recommend and advise booking first as tables get snapped up fast!

A smart, modern, yet simple place with a fantastic choice of Chinese and Asian food. Perfect for those who can’t decide what they want you can mix and match your food choices to your heart’s content. I had a starter of chilli paneer followed by a delicious curry which was fragrant with fenugreek and curry leaves and not loaded with ghee as per many more traditional curry houses. The service was fast (perhaps too fast- I felt we were hurried out rather and the bill arrived without us requesting it) but is attentive and friendly and they quickly sorted an order mix up with no bother. It’s not the cheapest but the food is delicious and great if you’re in a hurry or heading on to something else. Great addition to the Cotham Hill scene.

Visited Rock Salt a couple of evenings ago for a nice meal out. While the food was nice, we unfortunately spent our entire evening with deliveroo / takeaway drivers streaming in and out of the door, leaving it open and hovering over our table making us pretty uncomfortable. I think it would be better if they decided whether they were a restaurant or a takeaway - as they charge restaurant prices without the standard and experience which comes hand in hand. Worth mentioning that if only one of you wants Chinese rather than Indian, you can’t buy egg fried rice or noodles. They charge £6.99 a pop so you need to share. Won’t bother some but these few things tainted a nice evening. One very friendly and nice waitress, rest of the staff fell below restaurant standard.

Hi. Thank you for your feedback, and we are sorry to hear that your experience with us was not what you expected. We have very recently joined the Deliveroo service and have been working on a new side entrance so this service does not affect restaurant operations in any way. This has now been completed and as a result no more Deliveroo drivers will be hovering over restaurant tables. We have very experienced chefs who cook all of our dishes fresh to order using localy sourced products, and our menu is priced accordingly. The rice and noodle dishes are meant to be taken as a main course or to be shared between several people. The menu has been designed so that guests can either choose one cuisine or mix and match between the two, which has proven to be the more popular choice. We expect all of our guests to receive fresh, tasty food and be given friendly and efficient service as befits a casual dining restaurant, and we are sorry to hear that this was not the case. Please get in touch directly if you wish to discuss this further.

Situated a 30 minute walk or 10 minute drive from city centre, Salt Rock is a great place for Oriental or Indian cuisine. The service was exceptional, the food was perfect, and the drinks were tasty. Prices were completely fair too: we paid £20 each for a cocktail, shared dimsum, curry, shared naan, and shared rice. The area, although a bit far out for a walk, had a great atmosphere so was well worth it! Would recommend to anyone!

I was thrilled when I heard Rock Salt was re-opening for takeaways. At last, no more mediocre lockdown takeaways! I ordered the sweet and sour chicken, Keralan beef curry, egg fried rice, cheese and chilli naan bread and Rock Salt's infamous cauliflower manchurian - as recommended by the very friendly and helpful maitre d’, Ed. When I arrived, the food was ready to go and 15 minutes later when I got home was still piping hot. What stands out with food from Rock Salt is the obvious freshness of the ingredients and authenticity of the dishes. The Keralan beef was tender and like no other curry I've had from from a takeaway before and Ed's recommendation of the cauliflower Manchurian was delicious (how do they make cauliflower taste that good!?) Thanks Rock Salt for opening and making lockdown that little bit more exciting!

We found Rock Salt to have nice food but at an unjustifiable price point. The starter portions are small and mains do not come with rice/noodles which need to be purchased separately - these are pricey except for plain rice which is £3 for a portion. 2 lamb chops for £8.50 is expensive. The mains were tasty and ingredients were clearly fresh, but overall just not worth the price. We didn't feel we got value for money. Service was overall very good - polite and friendly at all times. No problems or qualms.

Hi Adam. We are glad you enjoyed your food and the service. Our price points are such due to the cost of preparing the dishes. We have very experienced chefs who use high quality, fresh, local ingredients preparing our dishes freshly on a daily basis. Our pricing is also in line with other restaurants in Bristol who serve food of the same quality. Our starters range from £5 to £8.50, our mains from £9 to £16 and our side dishes from £3 to £6. This, with drinks included, means we have an average spend per guest of around £30. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you wish to discuss the matter further, and we will hopefully see you again soon. All the best,

I have eaten at Rock Salt multiple times and have ordered through Deliveroo twice and have been impressed with every meal. Their menu has something for everyone and on one occasion the restaurant catered to some quite specific dietary requirements brilliantly. Their food is some of the best I have had in Bristol and their menu certainly negates that age old question of Chinese or Indian for dinner!

Wow! My friends and I went to Rock Salt for a birthday celebration meal, and we had such a great experience. The food was all so delicious, we had a mixture of both Indian and Chinese and everything was so so good! One of our friends is vegan and the staff were so helpful and accommodating advising her on what changes could be made to other dishes to make them vegan. When booking we were asked if there was any special occasion, which it was, and during our visit the staff were so attentive and made my birthday special, with a complimentary glass of prosecco, and all round great service, e.g. checking on us throughout, topping up wine glasses and a really friendly atmosphere. Also towards the end of the night I inquired how much shots of alcohol were, as it was a celebration, and the lovely waiter who had taken such good care of us offered us them for free, even joining in himself, and playing Taylor Swift's 22 at our request! (there were no other customers left at this point) Overall such a good experience, delicious food and excellent service. We wish we had asked the waiter his name as he deserves a special shout-out for making our evening so special!

Went with friends to the late sitting in Rocksalt on the now pedestrianised Cotham Hill. Lovely if chaotic atmosphere but the food was certainly very tasty. I had the chilli beef and the the pork. Both very tasty but took ages to come to the table. No matter as we were all having a lovely time. It was the chefs birthday so they asked us to all sing to him - added to the relaxed feel of the place. Great location and decent value. Good addition to the bustling scene around cothom hill.

Weekend away with a long stroll turned into finding Rock Salt restaurant. Was made to feel very welcome and sat down to order a great mix of Salt & Pepper king prawn and Tandorri lamb chops as starter both 5 star. Lovely main course king prawn curry with sides. All in all in, great service, very tasty food and would definitely return. Thank you to all the staff for a memorable visit.

I was part of a table of 7 on New Year's Day and I can only compliment the food and service. Our server was really friendly and the food was EXCEPTIONAL. Everyone at our table absolutely loved the food and I can honestly say it was probably the best food I've ever eaten. The restaurant was also really nicely decorated and fairly priced so I would give it a 10/10 :)

We stumbled on this funky little restaurant tonight while searching for some dinner. First reactions before entering were a menu that was both Indian and Chinese? We took a chance and boy we were not disappointed. The food was faultless, cooked to perfection and the service was impeccable from the young eager to please informal waiters, all lads. If we lived full time in the area, we would be in there twice a week!! Even the music was spot on :-) Thank you.

Disappointing, we had spring rolls which were very bland and no identifiable chicken in them. I had black bean beef, it was just a slightly black bean tasting salty gravy. Crispy beef was the best thing about it, definitely won’t be buying from here again. I’m amazed people are describing it as excellent?!?!

We were welcomed quickly and felt super safe. our server was really friendly and talked us through the menu and cocktails menu.
