Just off the beaten track, The St. John's Chop House is a sister restaurant to The Cambridge Chop House. The restaurant is situated in a 200 year old former Almshouse. Split over 2 levels with 5 separate dining rooms it offers a wide range of dining options from an intimate meal in our Reading Room to the party sized rooms on the ground floor. Traditional British food is once again the mainstay, sourced as locally as possible, complimented by a local cask ale and an interesting wine list. Reservations are taken and recommended, especially at the weekend.

We took our parents for a meal and both have mobility problems, the staff were very helpful in placing us downstairs with plenty of room for walking sticks etc. The food is delicious and we had the option of both the early menu and the...More
We had the early evening menu which is great value with enough choice to please most people. The general ambience is point, friendly and not rushed. My steak was superb, my wife said she would struggle to improve on the fish pie recipe.
Service was friendly and welcoming. We had a cosy table in the corner upstairs. This was Burns Night with a limited choice but the Starters (Scotch Egg) (Cock-a-leekie Soup) and Mains (Haggis) (Mackerel) were all stunning - full of flavour, freshly cooked and delicious. Desserts...More
We held a surprise birthday supper for my 16 year old son in one of the private rooms. The service and help from the staff was first rate and Tomas the GM couldn't have been more helpful in ensuring we had a very successful evening....More

After visiting for a New Year’s Eve dinner with the family, we all had Rib eyed steak at £27 per person and was very disappointed how chewy and bland it was. We complained to the manager who deducted £20 off the bill but not satisfied.it...More
We were really excited as a company to be going to St John's Chop House as the website boasts high quality meats. The reality though was that the meat that was served was fatty and gristly. We had to send two dishes back because they...More

There is no official disabled parking. However opposite the restaurant is Pound Hill which has pay & display parking or you can park on the Pay & Display opposite in Northampton Street, but it is fair to say there is not a lot. We have double yellow parking directly outside the restaurant, but it is a private road, so you can drop off easily if that is an option. Hope that helps.
