Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Lovely location but food incredibly overpriced for what are very mean portions of basic dishes. Hospitality was lacking. Pleasant serving staff were clearly new/lacked training.

I took my wife out for a meal as it was one of those special birthdays (I'm not allowed to say which one). Because of covid-19 restrictions it was just the two of us which actually made a nice change. The meals we had were...all different, so three courses each, six different meals and all very tasty. The service was excellent but strange as all the staff had to wear face masks but as customers we didn't. Our table was in one corner with huge glass windows on two sides so we could look out over the cam, a wonderful setting for a relaxed meal. Only downside was getting out of the car park it should have been free as we stayed for less than three hours but nobody explained what we had to do. After a bit of fuss we got sorted and didn't have to pay.More

Had a lovely lazy evening here on a warm August night and it was magical watching the sun set over the river. Had been here before for afternoon teas and drinks but ventured to have a meal this time and while the menu outside is...limited, the quality was surprisingly good.More

Thanks to Groupon, me and my mum had a lovely afternoon tea overlooking the river Cam, it was mum's first visit to Cambridge and she has never had an afternoon tea, despite visiting England several times. The service was very ggod, the staff were polite...and attentive but not overwhelming, we had a large table by the window offering lovely views of the garden and river Cam. The afternoon tea wasn't thebest I've ever had but that's not to say it wasn't very nice. Overall we had a fantastic afternoon.More

Brilliant staff in all areas who helped with wheelchair access, fabulous sandwiches and cakes, lots of tea and coffee and even called us taxi! Def 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 lots of praise goes to the...waiters who even brought candles out in a cake on decorated plate and sang happy birthday!More

We attended, as part of a group with current and previous Cambridge mayors and academics, a Chinese Government Cultural and Tourism event. We were not given meal options. We ate a tasty and well-seasoned baked chicken dish with bread dressing, greens, and fruit desert. Meal,...service, and Cam River view were all good.More

We came for a late lunch, we had not booked but were seated at a table near the window straight away. Good service, friendly staff. Drinks came quickly, a little bit of a wait for food, but it came freshly cooked, nicely presented. We both...had the pork chop with roasted apple.Had not expected such generous portions, a large chop with plenty of veg and a really lovely calvados sauce. A nice relaxing atmosphere, great view of the river with punts going along.,All very enjoyable, a really nice meal. We could not manage dessert as we were full! The restaurant then got busy serving afternoon teas which looked lovely. A nice finish to our stay at this hotel. Can recommend a room with river view and balcony.More

We called here for lunch whilst visiting cambridge for the day with my daughter son in law and 3 year grand son and 8 month old baby. We decided on it because it was right next to the river with outside quality and service. However...we were about to be greatly disappointed. There were plenty of waiting staff stood around on for about 10 minutes and eventually I managed to beckon someone over to serve us. First of all we ordered drinks which took about 25 minutes to arrive in the meantime I had to beckon someone else over so we could order food as we were starving by this time. Finally our drinks came and the waiter had forgotten one of them which we never received. Our food took about 45 minutes to arrive. And it was awful. I ordered a chicken ceaser salad it came with no chicken on it. We ordered skin on fries they brought us skinny fries. My grandson had fish bites which were soggy undercooked and tasteless. He wouldn't even swallow the first bite he spat it into a tissue. My husband had tempura prawns koftas and they were cold the only thing that was ok was my son in laws cheesy nachos. But you cant really go wrong with that. I ordered another coffee when it finally arrived it tasted fowl and the glass was dirty. So my husband sent it back and we got a replacement. They have a serious pro blem with wasps which were literally all over us. None of us are scared of wasps however they did make it hard work to eat and drink in peace. The bill came to over £70 just for those items I mentioned. But to refresh. 1 x childs fish bites and chips 1x ceaser salad minus the chicken 1x tempura prawns and koftas 2x fries 1x cheesy nachos 2x coke 2x latte I of which was un-drinkable. As far as I was concerned the food wasnt worth paying for at all but because my family were there I didnt feel I could confront the manager as we were out for the day and didnt want to upset anyone or cause I scene. I just wanted to carry on enjoying our day out. So I paid. When I looked at the bill later they had charged me for the chicken that I didnt receive on my salad they charged me for the latte that should really have been free as the first one was fowl. And they also charged us for the coke we didnt receive. And best of all added a service charge. Which I thought was hilarious because we barely received any service it was like pulling teeth trying to get their attention. So all in all I would avoid this place if you are just going for lunch. Zero customer service and lousy food. Don't know about the rooms as we didnt stay there. The views are beautiful by the river but that's about the only positive I can give this place .More

A very poor meal. My parma ham starter was fairly low quality and tasted of little. The steak I ordered was tough and a bit gristley. I asked for it medium rare and it arrived cooked through. Garnishes that accompanied each dish looked tired. The...accompanying chips were uninspiring. We ordered a bottle of albariño and it arrived at room temperature. Staff seemed surprised when we asked for an ice bucket and more surprised when we asked for water to be added to the bucket so that we could get the wine cold. The wine itself was very expensive for the quality.More

I really liked this cheerful restaurant with its hearty food, stunning service and peerless views out over the lawns and the River Cam. Breakfast was amazing; it is seldom that one experiences stellar service on a breakfast stint but that was the excellent treatment that...I received from waiter, Gary. I also went for drinks with my friends who are resident in Cambridge. The wine list was impressive and I could soak up the jolly evening atmosphere as a result!More

Nice ambiance and a lovely position with great views over the river, made for a good start. We decided to pay an extra £5 each for bubbly(expecting Prosecco) but it turned out to be some sort of squash in a jam jar type glass and...certainly not worth the extra.money(AVOID). The tea/coffee were very good as was the sandwich selection, but it would have been nice if we had been asked about drink re-fills.The plain scones(one each) were poor and rather tasteless however, but fortunately the cake selection was fairly good Overall a pretty average afternoon tea at this nice City Centre hotel.More

Went for afternoon tea with the family. Setting is fantastic looking onto the River Cam with people punting, rowing etc. The food was not as fantastic. Bread for sandwiches didn't feel or taste fresh. Staff were not very attentive. Didn't come to table to see...if we wanted tea refills or anymore soft drinks. Not impressed.More

Went with friends for the carvery. A good choice of dishes but nothing special. Have had better food in pub chains. The riverside location is the best feature.

We have stayed at this hotel many times but never had afternoon tea here. We had the opportunity when we called into Cambridge on our way home from Norfolk on Sunday. The staff are always cheerful & extremely helpful & go out of their way...to make you feel welcome. Afternoon tea for us is no mean fete, 1 fussy eater, 1 coeliac & 1 pregnant, we gave our instructions for what we all wanted or didn't want to eat & had no expectations that we would get what we wanted. However, we were pleasantly surprised that everyone was catered for & nothing appeared to be too much trouble. So refreshing to be able to relax & get what you ordered. Well done to the team here who work so hard for their customers, I guess this is why we always go back. Gorgeous surroundings, lovely view, great food but what really makes this venue is with out doubt the hardworking staff.More

go for the view and not the food .while away an hour or so on their perfectly positioned riverbank and sip a glass of cold Chablis .the food ,as when ever I have gone to a Marco Pierre White restaurant is poor and bland .we...had the table dote menu on a travelzoo voucher so wasn't too worried and when we complained they offer my friend a free glass of fizz and gave her a birthday brownie so they tried. On a very hot day the a/c was welcome but take time to sit outside and enjoy the view magical .I come again but not for the food .take a punt up the river as part of your trip and have the perfect day .More
