Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Came for the football on a Sunday afternoon, and made sure we had some of the pies we had heard so much about. They were not oversold, they were great!! Great little local boozer, would definitely recommend.

Visited here on a Sunday evening and it wasn't particularly busy. The food was very nice and a substantial meal. What let this place down was the service, the guy behind the bar was very rude and snapped at me when I went to buy...a drink when he deemed me to be too quick to put my card to the card machine "have you not got any patience". He was also very rude to my friend when he asked if he could pay with cash. All in all it ruined what would have been a nice evening.More

The Alma was a good place to choose for a family group needing an evening meal on a Monday in Cambridge. The menu was varied and was good value for money. We ordered 'bangers and mash', fish and chips, and broccoli and potato cheese bake....The menu also included burgers and curries, etc. The food was well presented and service was good, thanks to Dave and Simon. It was nice to relax in the pub afterwards and have the option of watching a match on the TV screen.More

Their personal website, not Trip Advisor, suggests they have an open mic night every Sunday - this was not the case. We walked 30 minutes to get here to be told that there was no music and given a very gormless expression as if I...was the person in the wrong. Before you turn up expecting music, call ahead and check so you don't waste your time.More

Sorry you were disappointed and had to walk for 30 minutes through the beautiful city of Cambridge, but because of a certain COVID Pandemic we have not had an open mic for nearly 18 months now. It would have been advisable to phone to confirm...More

We stayed in a hotel around the corner and needed somewhere local to eat. We called the ALMA and they said they had free tables but as they dont take bookings and only do table service we needed to arrive early. We took their advice...and went to the pub and were lucky enough to get a good table. The place was full at 5 pm on a Friday. The staff who provided table service were fantastic, really attentive and looking out for tables that needed service. they were all friendly and really looked after us. I had rump steak and it was very tender and tasty and reasonably priced. The beer was very good also.More

We really enjoyed watching the Scotland v Wales and Italy v England on 30th October at the Alma. Great food and attentive and friendly table service kept us refreshed throughout the afternoon in what was a vibrant atmosphere well managed in accordance with Covid-19 guidelines.

As a removal company, we were in town for a night and wanted a bite to eat and to catch the rugby on tv. We asked google where the best place to watch rugby is in Cambridge and immediately The Alma was the recommendation. I...phoned ahead as in these covid times, I wasn’t sure if we may need to book. No need. We arrived at the pub and sure enough two games were being screened. I can highly recommend the steak and Guinness pie as well as the burger. Excellent service from Justin at the bar and also a pleasure to watch the game with a very learned and pleasant Kiwi lady. Thank you to The Alma for reinforcing the notion that the rugby family looks after its own and is alive and well far and wide. A shame the Gloucester result wasn’t in our favour but good things come to those who wait. Thanks to the landlord (Dave, I think) for a wonderful experience.More

The Alma is a gem of a pub in Cambridge. It’s tucked away down a quiet street and caters more to locals than tourists, which is how you know it’s good. The Alma is a traditional neighbourhood pub with a friendly atmosphere and emphasis on...showing sports on TV especially Rugby. (They are opening early to show all the Rugby World Cup matches.) There is wide selection of real ales on sale including some local favourites. Whilst the home-cooked food is excellent with pub classics like fish and chips and an award-winning range of hearty pies and mash which are perfect for the colder months. (Full disclosure: David the manager is a distant relation. Although we’d never met in person before, he gave us such a warm welcome to The Alma.) I would definitely return, if in the Cambridge area.More

This is a fairly large pub. Sports orientated with a footie match on the screens when we were there. A good range of beers on tap and the food looked good, though I didn't eat there. A wee bit noisy for my taste but a...good lively local. Worth a visitMore

Heavily influenced by a rugby theme when we visited - with country flags and live sport advertisement - The Alma can become busy and loud very quickly as it is a popular pub to visit. Fairly small bar meaning some queuing for drinks but with...your typically selection of lagers on tap etc. Slightly dated and well-worn benches and furniture perhaps add some character to this place too. Suitable as a starting point for sure before a few rounds on a weekend evening.More
