Absolutely outstanding sandwiches and in my top 2 of all sandwich places (other being Dieleto, Fleet St, London). It is not your average sandwich, it is substantially better. Small queue forming outside (12 people) on a sunny Saturday lunch time in June. Took around 15 minutes to get seated. However, it was organised and they kept tabs on the numbers/groups waiting outside and updated us on progress. Opted for both the Pork and Chicken each to share which arrived quickly. Ciabatta was fresh and crispy, good amount of meat inside, sauces went together well with lots of flavours which combined well. Both were great options but Chicken definitely had the edge and would go for that again next time. Service was efficient yet friendly. Can’t wait to come back and visit again.

We moved to Cambridge six months ago and finally got to grab lunch at this place today. We arrived at c1.15pm and it was pretty busy, so we shared a table with another couple. We noted the place getting quieter by 1.45pm and notably so by 2pm.
I had a Reuben sandwich, on as a special menu item, something I used to enjoy living in NYC/NJ. My wife had a Philly Cheese Steak sandwich, something she enjoyed when living in NYC! She also ordered a cordial soda and we got potato wedges to share. We were 'proper famished'.
The order arrived quickly, less than 10 minutes. Firstly the size, they were BIG. I have a big appetite but these were properly big. Just before half way I knew that I'd struggle to finish it. In the event I did but I don't need that much for lunch.
My wife found hers the same, in fact she stopped at half-way and had the remainder wrapped to take home for later. The wedges were good and came with mayo that appeared home-made but honestly given the scale of the sandwiches we wouldn't order a side next time.
My sandwich was good and juicy, dripping quite a bit. Loads of beef, melted Swiss, sauerkraut on a 1/2 sized ciabatta loaf. We both sliced our 'loaves' in half making things less messy and simpler to navigate. The Russian dressing was in my experience notably piquant, spicy, and a bit of a distraction. I've not seen this used in the US, historic places like Katz's Deli known for top-rated Reubens. They use Thousand Island dressing instead, I think it balances in better.
Next time we won't need a side, and we'll likely order one sandwich and share it and see how that goes. Today, the two sandwiches, wedges and a soda were £29.81 all in (Tipping was mentioned or prompted nowhere so presumably included or N/A?). Service (taking the order and bringing the trays to the table) was pleasant and efficient. They checked on us too about five minutes in. No wonder this places rates well.

This place has the most amazing sandwiches. I ordered the pork roast sandwich and it was so delicious. It was served on fresh ciabatta bread with juicy meat and crunchy crackling.
The staff were very friendly with us and made sure we had everything we needed throughout our lunchtime meal.
If you are visiting Cambridge, you MUST visit here for lunch!

Arriving quite late in the day, we were made welcome and served delicious food, as always. Bring a hearty appetite for the tasty poutine. If you're still hungry, the chocolate brownie will surely satisfy you. The restaurant is small and deservedly very popular, so be prepared to wait a while or choose a quieter time.

Tasty sandwiches that hit the spot were offered in simple but pleasant surroundings. Service was between poor and unpleasant. The staff were disorganised, offhand and careless. Simply placing a standard order left me feeling like I was a nuisance. Perhaps my face didn't fit. Fully priced.

Had we not met the owner during a visit to southwold this summer we probably not of had this restaurant on our radar as it’s one of those that you take a look at the que and think ‘ not got time to wait ‘
How wrong that would be if you make the same mistake, just get in that que and be prepared to enjoy a plate of the best food in the area , served with alacrity and at just the right speed to leave you feeling well fed and ready to get on with the rest of your day .
That said despite a small menu we simply had to return the next day and guess what ?
NO QUE. Thank you see you next time

Bread and Meat
Spontaneously dined here for lunch and there was a queue outside as the place was small. However, we didn’t wait long.
I had the steak cheesy Philly sandwich and I was expecting to be light. But it was actually quite heavy and really filling that I struggled to eat it all . But I was really enjoying it and it was sooo tasty and so I was determined to finish it!
Although, I felt ushered to finish it quickly as the staff came straight to our table (as my other friends had finished) to take away our dishes when I was still eating !
I could see there was a queue outside and I understand that staff is wanting people to come in and eat. But we wasn’t just sitting there and chatting when we had finished food. We still had our drinks to finish up too and it would have been nice to sit for a bit after our food for the food to digest rather than being rushed to leave!!
But overall, apart from the staff service. The food was really great and great value too! It kept me through till dinner time!

Our friend recommended this wonderful place and it was phenomenal! The food is so fresh and so well done! We all had the porchetta which was to die for! Some of us had porchetta bowls and I had the porchetta poutine which I have to say rivals the best poutines in Quebec! And our server was just lovely. They even have lovely homemade iced tea and lemonade for a taste of home, for those of us from the southern part of the U.S. I cannot wait to go back here!!!

Nearly went of e standard sandwich but so glad I opted for poutine. Cheesesteaks, chips and gravy were exactly was needed after a long crisp walk along the river. Extra bonus they had some left over crackling which they handed out to those of us in the restaurant for free which was a really nice touch!

We had an impromptu bank holiday Monday to Cambridge and decided to try Bread and Meat.
We arrived at 12 to check it out and there was already a queue outside the door. Luckily the weather was kind, whilst waiting the staff asked us if we wanted to wait or try the takeaway but we chose to wait and within 10 minutes we were seated inside at a table for two. The restaurant is small with basic tables and chairs and the menu on a big board. We’d already both decided on the rare beef ciabatta sandwich and a portion of Poutine with a lager. The food arrived quickly and was absolutely delicious. In fact I couldn’t finish my sandwich and was offered a doggy bag which I accepted. The menu is simple, but the food is amazing and the staff are very friendly, I love the concept and will definitely visit again.

After seeing this restaurant on a YouTube channel I just had to try it. It lived up to the hype!! The sight of the massive lump of crackled pork sitting at the counter made my menu choice easy - Porchetta, outdoor reared British pork middle with crackling. I went for the least healthy of the three options - poutine. Chips, cheese curds, a huge amount of pork and crackling, all swimming in a tasty pool of gravy. Wicked!! Delicious!! Such succulent, delicious pork. Friendly, quick service as well. I recommend you arrive at the opening time of 1130 as this place gets full quickly and stays that way all day. Yum!

We saw them cutting the meat right out of the oven and the real bakery bread was perfect, wonderful sides. Best poutine outside of Canada. The pork and beef were both moist, tender and delicious. Friendly staff too. Not like any sandwich shop you’ve ever been in.

My wife and I called here for a meal one late afternoon at the height of summer. Cambridge was very busy and we were glad to have arrived during a lull before the evening rush.
Bread and Meat is a small restaurant with a focus totally on "sandwiches" although in this instance "sandwiches" is something of a misnomer. These sandwiches are special and it's doubtful whether you have come across anything similar elsewhere. Beef, chicken and pork are cooked overnight at a low heat and the result is meat that is wonderfully tender and juicy. The bread is magnificent, crusty on the outside and soft and fluffy inside. Various dressings and side dishes are available including some of the best potato wedges we have ever enjoyed. And the size of these "sandwiches"! We didn't measure them but they must be 12 inches long and capable of satisfying any appetite. Vegetarian and gluten free sandwiches are also available.
The service was excellent and we enjoyed a discussion with the owner who explained the menu options to us and the background to this unique establishment. A very genial host.
Make sure you are hungry when you visit; you won't be disappointed.

My favourite place to go in Cambridge, with friends, family, and on my own. I have tried nearly everything on the menu and loved it all, personal favourite is the Philly cheesesteak 😍😍The food is always fresh and lovely and you can watch it being put together. Very filling and great quality meats and veg. Great options for both vegetarians and meat lovers.Lovely owners and staff always very attentive and kind will always recommend. Plus the deserts and milkshakes are so good.

Visited for lunch. I had the Porchetta sandwich and my daughter had poutine. Both were so delicious - the sqndwich had beautifully cooked pork, crackling and a zingy and fresh salsa verde on sourdough. Absolutely amazing taste. My daughter said that her poutine reminded her of what she had in Canada.
