We have been eating at La Hogue over many years and the quality and service has always been maintained as they have changed and expanded. The food is great quality and reasonably priced with a fantastic selection. Staff are friendly and helpful. It's suitable for all ages and there's a nice outside play area for younger children. Cyclist friendly too with great scones!

Visited this little gem again this afternoon and was not disappointed. The farm shop has a wide variety of fresh vegetables, fruit and cheeses to name some of the choices. Popped into the cafe to be greeted by a lovely member of staff and shown to our tables and enjoyed a coffee and slice of carrot and courgette cake which I believe is baked on the premises and which tasted delicious. One of reasons I am writing this review is to highlight the precautions that are taken to ensure your visit is as safe as possible, a staff member to greet you, hand gel available, all tables and chairs sanitised after each customer, one way entry and exit to name a few. We are in the vulnerable age group but feel completely as ease and comfortable! Thank you La Hogue.

We were in the queue first in line waiting to be seated when a lady and grandson came in behind us, no mask and stood less than a foot from us. The lady member of staff politely asked her to step back and give us social distance. She ignored her came round us to ask if she could have a takeaway coffee again she was politely asked To step away and give social distance. She then got very stroppy and accused the member of staff of being very rude and left.....the staff have a hard time ensuring all customers are safe as it is without people being obnoxious. By the way she then went through the shop and into the cafe ..the exit way...to confront the member of staff again and accuse her of being rude, no mask and right up to her face! Times are very different for everyone and la hogue has done very well in these times to make the public feel safe and enjoy a lunch out. Well done all of you.

Went for lunch, for kids the sausages were good but chips very greasy. I had a burger, the bun was toasted so much it went rock hard, the burger was very dry and certainly wasn't premium quality. I've had far better burgers in weatherspoons for less money and a free drink. The cakes are overpriced (£5.50 a slice) I had lemon meringue pie, the slice I was served had fallen apart on the plate, the lemon curd was far too bitter, dried up and claggy. The coffee was good.

Went here with a group of friends a couple of weeks ago. Ordered a cappuccino, and I could hear the woman behind the counter heating the milk, but just by the noise I knew it was overheated. When I went back to the table I saw I had no froth on my coffee, and it was burnt milk and tasted awful. I thought why should I put up with this, and went back and said to the woman who made it that it was over heated. So she made me another one without adding fresh milk to the jug, and reheating hot milk (which you don’t do when you froth milk) I could hear the milk burning, and asked her not to bother and how you’re supposed to make it and just to give me the coffee with no milk (a double espresso) which was lovely. I ordered no food because of this. And I would not have written anything here, except I pinged them an e mail the day after about it but had no reply. Lovely place, nice food, but the coffee has always been hit & miss.

We are regulars at La Hogue, and usually cannot find fault with the food. However we were left really disappointed with the Christmas dinner this year, the vegetables were raw and even after they sent us out a fresh bowl they were still raw, not undercooked but raw. We noticed that other customers were also leaving them. The roast potatoes and parsnips were inedible, a rubbery texture. We were booked in at 1pm for lunch, so not late comers experiencing the dregs. However the desserts as always didn’t disappoint and the staff are friendly and pleasant. The Christmas Barn is full of beautiful decorations and a quick trip round lifted our Christmas spirits, but the Christmas food was far below the standard I’d expect from La Hogue.

I visited this afternoon and our group was provided with generous amounts of sandwiches, scones and delicious cakes. Since I never drink black tea, I requested lemon and ginger which was not available. The only alternative seemed to be coffee. All the tea drinkers were provided with pots of tea which yielded at least 2 cups, I have a less than full cup which was inadequate for me and so I, together, with several others, requested a second cup of coffee. I was told I would have to pay for it, I grudgingly agreed and subsequently found that for a little extra I could have had a larger mug. At the end of the meal, there was quite a lot left over, some of which was admittedly taken home by some of our group,. It seems to me that if the cost of providing adequate beverage is too great, it might be possible to compensate by reducing the amount of food I am left feeling that if this is the image you wish to portray, I will think twice about returning.

The cooked breakfast is the best around, with high quality sausage, bacon, and bread for the toast. The coffee is nice too. My only gripe is that you used to get two sausages in the big Farmer’s Breakfast and now you only get one. I had to borrow half a sausage from my fellow diner!

Me and my family went for Sunday lunch yesterday we also saw that my friends of four were there so I wanted to be able to be in the same area but I was told by a very Rude lady that we couldn’t , then I went to use the toilet I am disabled and somebody walked in the lock wasn’t easy to lock. My mother also went to the regular toilets where someone had made a mess which was rather disgusting . Are lunch had hardly cooked vegetables with it ( I like al dente vegetables but this was to the extreme) and the beef wasn’t great very thin and tasteless. I am a regular to La hogue but Normally have their lunch menus not roast dinners and i’m normally very pleased with their food and hospitality I was very very disappointed with the service and food

Thank you angievalmi for your review. I am very sorry that you did not enjoy your recent visit here but am pleased that you usually do enjoy our food and hospitality. I understand that you wished to form a group of 10 people sat on 2 tables. Unfortunately during these strange and difficult times we are not able to let more than 6 people "mingle" as it is currently against the law which was politely explained to you. We are finding it very frustrating to have to prevent our customers from meeting up with friends and enjoying themselves - it is not what we are about but just for now we must follow Government guidance to keep everyone safe. Please be assured that as soon as the rules change we will be the very first to welcome large gatherings with open arms!

Brilliant little cafe and farm shoppe. Sanitisation on site seems to be good with social distancing being observed in the restaurant. Menu is limited as most are during these strange times. Food is absolutely brilliant. Really nice & tasty. Farm shoppe has the usual faye, the butchers is very good and competitively priced.

Visited the cafe this lunchtime. La Hogue have done so well to make the cafe feel safe to visit. The range of food available is extensive and the staff who serve are so pleasant and helpful. Social distancing was not an issue. Well done La Hogue

Having been here many times before, we were looking forward to our lunch. Preparation included looking through the CHRISTMAS LUNCH MENU on the website available Monday 7th to Sunday 20th December — excluding Saturdays Sunday 6th, 13th & 20th December. Included a starter, choice of turkey or beef, etc. etc. However on arrival we were told that none of this was available. When I suggested they take it off their website, shoulders were shrugged and that was it... Had to settle for a rather dull and ordinary steak burger at £9.99. Not impressed.

We are regular customers at La Hogue and have never been disappointed with the food or the service over the years. We booked a few days ahead as Sunday lunch is always a busy time and indeed people who hadn't booked were struggling to get a table though the staff did their best to accommodate. Hats off to staff member Sarah who had an extremely rude lady to deal with in front of us in the queue to get booked in. This lady had not booked and was most disgruntled that there was no free table for five of them though Sarah offered for the lady to wait and she would see what they could do. This was not good enough and the lady accused Sarah of having an attitude and another of their party reiterated this too but was totally untrue. Sarah dealt with this rude party very professionally as they were really unpleasant to her. We could not fault the service or the meal and indeed another lovely member of staff (didn't get her name ) brought a glass of water to our table as an unrequested gesture to my daughter as she knew my daughter may need to breastfeed her baby and thought she would like the water as it was a warm day. What a kind thought and much appreciated. We love going to La Hogue and use it as meeting point for family coming from different places as the play area is good for young members of our family too.

We saw signs for this place and decided to give it a go. It was very good. My partner had a full English breakfast and I had poached eggs on toast. We could not fault the quality. Afterwards we had a look round the farm shop which looked very good . Glad we spotted the sign!

We stopped here as we were heading on holiday and needed breakfast, I had come off of two long night shifts and needed coffee to stay awake as I had come straight from work. The car park has plenty of disabled spaces and is spacious. They opened dead on 9 am and even though we were told by someone in the farm shop NO DOGS ALLOWED, we were welcomed into the cafe/restaurant with open arms and treats for the dog. Very covid secure. Service was great, food was fantastic - sausages were the best. View of the highland cattle was brilliant. By the time we were finished the place was very busy. Would very highly recommend. Oh and to La Hogue, apologies about the poo bag. In my tired stupor left it on the car roof when I couldn't find a bin. If it fell in the car park apologies.
