Very unassuming little personable restaurant. So much so that one lady said she had lived in Ely all her life without knowing it as there. It felt very personal as there were only about 10 tables and a small bar area (for diners pre seating). The service was attentive and friendly. All the food was locally sourced and cooked to... The food may not be adventurous, but it is always reliably satisfying so everyone returns time and time again to enjoy it and the great service by friendly staff.

As an Ely resident I adore the Old Fire Engine, and although I only visit occasionally I love the quirky charm as mentioned in all the other reviews. But guys... would it be at all possible to change the menu more than once every 20 years! I'm not exaggerating; 'mitoons of pork' were on the menu when we moved here... More

We combined an evening meal at the Old Fire Engine House with a two night stay in Ely (at Peacocks B&B) and were very impressed with both the food and the 1st class standard of service received from it's very friendly and welcoming staff. The menu is straightforward good food, served in traditional style and we would most definitely return... More

Fantastic English food, lovely location and very friendly stuff. Been there twice with my wife and both times we were impressed. The menu changes often, the quality of the food is top and the taste follows, as expected. Possibly just on the expensive side, but it's a certainly worth treat.

Superb restaurant that hasn't changed for decades. Beautiful freshly cooked English food and vegetables to die for. Laid back atmosphere. Just like eating at home. The best place in the world to eat if you want the very best of England. Partridge is delicious.Nothing else to add.

It's been here for decades but still takes some beating. The food is always great and, for the high quality of the dishes, very reasonably priced. And if you're lucky, when the private car park is full, there is some 3-hour, free parking right outside! So if you're here for lunch - as we were - you can enjoy a... More

We came here for a family party. We sat in a beautiful private room, and were served absolutely exquisite food from start to finish. Service was friendly and warm, even asked if we wanted seconds! Feels like coming to an old friend's house for dinner. Absolutely loved it and am certain to return.

A delicious dinner and delightful staff in a wonderful setting. A warm welcome awaits anyone who walks through the door. The food is delicious and you are even asked if you would like 'seconds'. It is advisable to book first so you are not disappointed. A real treasure in Ely.

I've been eating at the Fire Engine my whole life, know the owner from way back, and actually worked here serving cream teas when I was a teen. It was one of the top places to come in Britain for really good local food long before "local" and "British cuisine" became buzzwords. The secret to their success is, if it... More
