Please don't come here thinking you're going to get a Michelin starred meal with it things arranged perfectly on the plate. The food is cosy, that's the best word to describe it. It tastes yummy. The staff know what's going on and have been doing it for a long time. Lunch filled me up, left me happy and warm.

We first came here 40 years ago and i swear nothing had changed, even the waitress...the food is still plain, excellent quality, served with courtesy and charm. The wine was excellent and the atmosphere wonderful. Do go and sample the best of British food.

I should have written a review before, but only just getting round to it! This is a formal, yet informal restaurant - it can be whatever you want it to be! Staff are super friendly and always busy. The food is simple, yet delicious and the concept of having seconds something our teenage daughters love! It's like a big foodie... More

Wonderful little bar area to study the menus over a pint of real ale, shown to a nice table plenty of space and we had a wonderful evening, all four of us had quality home cooked meals, good wine and a very fair price for quality food and service

A warm welcome on arrival and a slightly frantic start to the evening...did we want a drink? Did we want to sit in the bar? Did we want to check out our table for suitability? Did we want the wine list? Did we want a drink from the bar?....certainly a very hectic start. After we ordered wine and checked the... More

This is the best restaurant we have visited in quite awhile. The ambiance is unique and charming...the service was superb...and the food was absolutely delicious. Our server could not have been more pleasant and attentive. I had the chicken breast with tarragon and wild mushrooms--it was amazing. My husband had the spiced turnip soup and the beef dish...it was also... More

Heard about this place for the past 10 yrs, how good it was and how hard it is to get a reservation. Called the day before and secured a lunchtime slot.. And it didn't disappoint. Quirky yet attention to detail. Open fire in the bar whilst having drinks. Friendly, kind staff who overheard the mention that it was my birthday... More
