Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were informed on arrival that it was fully booked however we were soon seated outside We were greeted by another team member and a drinks order was taken along with the track and trace process. They were clearly understaffed for the amount of diners today. We had to wait ages for the drinks and it was becoming very annoying to see new people rocking up and being served far quicker than we were. We were asked if we wanted food - the order was taken and payment made up front but again it took too long to arrive People were leaving before their food arrived and asking for refunds. We had to constantly chase up the whereabouts of our drinks and food. The waiting staff weren’t sympathetic at all only making reference to the bar and the kitchen being busy. They were clearly overwhelmed and let far too many people in. Very disappointed and we feel lessons need to be learned by our experience to Improve the service levels. The overall cost of the food and drinks we had were also expensive which was frustrating. Sadly we won’t return which is a shame because the location by the canal is picturesque.

Attended for a socially distanced catch up with family (group of 5 adults). We all had three courses and in general the food was was delicious, however my main of Vietnamese chicken curry was too spicy for my taste and didn't specify how hot it was on the menu. Wasn't being precious, my partner loves hot spicy food and said it was bordering on too hot for him too. Shame, because slightly milder I could tell it would have tasted delicious. Father in law's steak was tender and cooked as requested however he said it was over seasoned with pepper which he said got a bit much by the end. Starters and desserts all delicious. Staff seemed covid19 conscious, all wearing masks and using gloves for service, we felt safe and it seemed very organised in this regard. Had to ask for the bill twice, but otherwise the service was efficient during the rest of the meal. Would go back despite the aforementioned issues and would recommend to others.

This was my first meal out following the covid 19 restrictions, I was really impressed with the social distancing which was being practised and the staff made me feel really comfortable and informed us of all the safety measures in place. We shared squid and garlic prawns to start followed by 2 seafood linguines. All of which was delicious! I would definitely recommend!

Will keep it short and sweet. Telford's was always somewhere I enjoyed going, meeting friends having a nice beer, service was always pretty decent. Made a trip with with my partner to see a friend, it wasn't particularly busy when we first arrived. Empty inside - told they were booked up so we took a table outside. We were left for around 15minutes before getting asked for drinks, took another 10 for them to arrive, another 15mins before our food order was taken and then over a hour waiting for our food to arrive. We asked what was going on after 45mins of waiting to see if the food had been forgotten about but were told the ticket machine in the kitchen had broken. I asked if we could have a couple drinks on the house for all the hassle, but got told that it wasn't possible due to it being a technical fault! Food arrived, my partner had plastic wrapper in the meal - I presume from the packaging. Supporting local businesses in this time is something I enjoy doing, but why bother spending hard earned cash on a business like this when all you get is poor service and plastic in food. Will not be going back.

visited on a tuesday evening for our first meal out post lockdown and it was really disappointing. telfords is a great pub to have a drink in and we have been numerous times in the past for a beer and glass of wine, and decided to stay longer this time to get something to eat. unfortunately it was very poor. we ordered calamari to start which was rubbery and anemic. we both ordered beef burgers for main and although described as 'homemade steak burger' they were dry, thin and quite frankly tasted like anything other than homemade. the whole meal was also lukewarm when it arrived and when we told the waitress she was quite offhand with us - she took our plates back to be microwaved and then brought them back again within 2 minutes. having said this, the service up until that point had been very good and attentive. the chips were satisfactory but the buns weren't great and as previously mentioned the burgers themselves were dreadful. would return for drinks as it is a very pleasant pub in a great location but would not have food here again.

Arrived for a Sunday lunch with partner and 2 children. Children’s food and starter came without a problem. Was asked to pay the bill when first drinks arrived before eating..(weird) then was asked again to pay the bill when starters were collected ordered another drink waited 30 mins then waited over a hour and a half for mains when mains arrived husband had cutlery I never.. so I asked for cutlery waited 15 min which food was cold asked to be heated up by the time mine arrived husband had finished his meal which did but really disappointed with service.. No apology for waiting so long asked for salt never got.. Asking to pay for your bill is very strange especially when you haven’t had your food feel that we paid the bill then they never bothered asking if we were ok need drinks etc very disappointed in service

Very rude, unfriendly staff. The website states that food is being served until 8:30 pm. Arrived at 8:20, one person behind the bar said we could order, then another lady told us they had stopped taking orders for food at 8:15. Might as well have told us they stopped serving at 8:19! Why not just tell the truth that they can’t be bothered to serve another customer.

Arrived for light lunch. Inside was very quiet. Ordered two starters, chicken liver parfait and fish pate, and a vegan pizza. Waitress clearly didn't know anything about the food on the menu as couldn't answer any questions. Vegetarian pizza arrived instead, and wasn't very good. Chicken liver parfait did not look fresh, it was badly discoloured and seemed to have been placed on plate as if to hide the greenish colour. It looked inedible, told waitress who just smiled, no apology or offer to change it, so clearly had no training. Later I had to ask/tell her to deduct it from bill.

We arrived late and hungry. We had a mezze to start which was absolutely lovely. The kind of lovely that means you eat too much and ruin your main! My main was chickpea and lentil chilli. It was really tasty and nicely cooked rice. I could have chosen so many things off the menu which is rare! A jug of water was brought without asking and service was excellent and prompt. The sea bass was well cooked and delicious. We were too full for pudding. The starter would be lovely with some skin on chips (fantastic) and some bread as a light lunch.

We are family group of 9-6 adults 2 children and 1 infant. We were taken to a table upstairs which was away from bar and atmosphere. Food was pretty average for the price we paid but the big problem was the 2 child’s meals came after everybody else’s!! So we’re burning hot and the kids could not eat for ages. Maybe kids meals should be cooked at start of order so they have time to cook down!! Can’t believe you would put something so hot in front of a 3 & 4 year old. Very dangerous. Then we waited at least 45 mins for dessert. Apple crumble was nuclear and had raw apple In it. And why does it take 45 mins to scoop ice cream from a tub!! We apologise for leaving the floor in a mess as a couple of drinks got spilt. But that is not an excuse for the poor service we had. There was plenty of staff around and I’m sure they were all doing the job they were asked to do. Maybe not the waitress that was sitting on outside stairs smoking (a notice above her head read please do not block stairs and no smoking!!) And the girl behind counter with rolled cigarette hanging in her mouth disgusting. Floor was also very dirty. Kids were rotten!! I know we had made mess but this was from by window where they were watching man fishing in canal.

Wanted to go somewhere that we hadn't eaten at for our anniversary, 46 years and counting. Very busy so was glad I booked a table, ideal location overlooking the canal and with it being dog friendly it's an popular place to visit and stop for a swift drink. Both of us plumbed for the haloumi fries to start and followed this with ribs with crispy seaweed both of which hit the spot .good array of beers on draft to keep you interested service ok considering it was busy ,price wise it was on par with similar eateries so not overly expensive and you can see why this place is so popular.

Put this bar as one of our places to visit whilst in Chester as we like our real ales and the reviews were good. We called on a Tuesday lunchtime, and all the signs were positive; the location on the canal is fantastic, the beer choices were spot on and the staff were friendly and professional. Our issues began when we sat outside on one of the tables. We were enjoying our drinks when I noticed a couple on a neighbouring table let one of their dogs up onto their table. As if this isn't bad enough, they then let the dog drink the milk from the jug that came with a pot of tea! It was disgusting. What made it worse was when the bar staff brought food to their table and said absolutely nothing. I have contacted Telfords twice by email asking for their views on this matter before posting on here, but got no reply. I'm not one for posting really bad reviews, but you could be pouring your milk from that jug right now!

Have been coming here for years as I live in Chester, I had a birthday meal with 18 people booked last Saturday and the service was terrible. We pre ordered the food, as requested by the staff when we booked the table. They just left the customer service over the phone. We were not offered any salt, pepper, sauces or steak knifes. We were asked for drinks once the entire night which is a grave error on their part as we would have drank the place dry. And to top it off we had to pay £50 in a service charge and the only time we were spoken to was when they shouted out who’s ordered what.. It’s a shame as I’ve enjoyed coming here for years but I will not be eating here again.

It is a difficult time for bars and restaurants, they had to close, then reopen under strict guidelines then came along the amazing eat out to help out scheme - although wonderful it makes everywhere busy and adds difficulty to an already difficult time. We booked our table and were greated warmly and served quickly. They were very busy outside as it was sunny but quieter inside. Food arrived in good time, all faultless. Gf pasta cooked perfectly, lots of seafood. Rigatoni just lovely and the smaller portion wonderfully filling. We ate here again on our short trip, just lunch, we ate outside again. Food faultless, staff work very hard to keep everyone happy - no wonder they are all so slim, they must walk miles!!

Apparently the menu has been reduced, but there is still a great choice of meals. The food is always great quality and the service was somewhat stretched, but still friendly. And there's always a good range of real ales.
