Visited last week after being recommended . It was a very poor meal. The outside area looked shabby, cigarette stubs on floor and the food was very poor. Chicken, bacon and avocado salad was very poor...very little avocado , mostly lettuce, soggy bacon. Fish finger sandwich greasy, no tartare sauce., chips undercooked. No serviettes and had to get my own... More

Dear guest, I am sorry to hear about your disappointing experience at The Boathouse. We always welcome feedback both positive and negative as it lets us know what we are doing wrong in order to improve. I apologise for the appearance of the site on the day of your visit. Unfortunately the on-going 8 month building work has meant some... More

This pub is in a lovely location by the river and perfect for a drink in the sun, however the food is not so good. We decided to try on Sunday lunchtime I had Sunday lunch and bloke was going to have fish and chips but as this had sold out had breaded chicken both edible but really nothing special... More

Booked for Sunday roast, 6pm, none left - again - oops - was it all on the floor. Told too busy - obviously run out again and no staff to clean up after dinners. We won't bother going next time to give the staff a chance.

Have eaten here before and remembered it being quite good. We went yesterday and both had the burger - I was looking forward to it as the description with "bacon, sticky onions and cheese" sounded delish... what I got was far from this..... a greasy burger with limp lettuce, one pathetic sliver of gherkin and small ring of tomato. For... More

Prime location on the river. Really nice food and great interior. We did have a slight problem with one of the meals containing garlic (one member of our group is allergic) which we told staff prior to ordering. Despite this staff were attentive and willing to help sort out the problem. Would make a habit of re-visiting should we be... More

Called in with family for a lunchtime snack and a pint. The food was OK, nothing amazing but was well presented and tasted nice. I had a platter with veg fritters, chicken wings and hot sausage rolls with dips. The pint of beer was another matter... It was the JD lees pioneer (a brewery I normally like) supposed to be... Me, my friend and her daughter dropped in for some late lunch on a Thursday afternoon. Sunny day but not majorly busy compared to the times we've been before. We found ourselves a table, no menus on it so I grabbed us one. Went to the bar to order myself and my friend a drink and to ask for a... More

Went here on a sunny day and was not disappointed! We were served by a lovely girl, Ashleigh, who gave us a window seat and some recommendations. We had the steak and ale pie which was beautiful! Great setting, service and food- not to be missed in Chester!

Regularly come here but had a particularly good couple of visits over the last week, once for food and once for drinks. New menu is on point and plenty of options there to keep anyone happy, swift and friendly service and a smile on every staff members face which is always good to see. Obviously will be back again/would recommend.
