Lunch with friends, we were seated upstairs, which was very cool and draughty. Starters were ok, house wine very acceptable, but main course boef bourgignon failed miserably. What should have been a rich beef fish in red wine, shallots and mushrooms was nothing more than...a poor beef stew. Not enough potatoes for our group, and very hard sprouts. Not impressed.More

Best Sunday lunch we have had in years and fantastic friendly service. We had the 3 course deal and each course tasted great and was beautifully presented. Made even better by friendly service and staff who actually took the time to talk to you. Can't...wait to visit again and have already recommended to several friends who are visiting Chester in December.More

Very good, French (obviously) themed menu, reasonably priced. It was not surprisingly packed during our Saturday night visit. The food was freshly cooked and very tasty.

We were looking for a nice French restaurant on a visit to Chester. Chez Jules had a lovely, warm welcoming atmosphere with a bistro feel. Food was superb from an authentic menu, with attentive and friendly service.

We booked up for a Wednesday night, unfortunately too late to take advantage of the terrific cinema offer (wine/two courses/ticket for £27.50) but we still wanted to eat at Chez Jules as we'd passed by the evening before and seen it was very lively inside....Reading previous reviews, some stating it was a bit loud with tables close together we found that not the case at all. We were shown to our table with in a few seconds of arrival by a smiling, friendly waiter - a table for four which gave us a bit of space to spread out. We were given time to peruse the menu and choose our food & drinks. We were offered bread and also table water by an equally smily, friendly waitress. Drinks arrived quickly (two glasses of perfectly chilled white wine) and our food arrived a perfect amount of time after and we were both very happy with our choices. My partner had the chicken breast, David Joinson sausage, white bean & tomato cassoulet - the chicken breast was very tender, the cassoulet rich and flavourful and the sliced sausages added a real depth of flavour. I had the seabass fillet, herb risotto, pink onions, herb oil and the fish was cooked perfectly - the flesh nutty and moist, the skin crispy. Maybe there could have been a tad more risotto as this was also very tasty but that's a minor gripe. Our dish was served with veg - definitely not an afterthought or a simple 'side'. Thick batons of herby carrot, al dente, rich creamy potato dauphinoise, again with just the right amount of bite and a generous amount of red cabbage to add a nice piquant note. The atmosphere was great, not boisterous and we could hear ourselves speak. The decor was in keeping with the French theme and the toilets were spotless. We were not rushed in any way, the bill was very reasonable. They add an 8.5% service charge which is more than fair (and you can ask them to remove it or as we did, add a bit more). We will return on our next visit to Chester and we have told all our friends who visit often.More

A belated review. My husband and I went to Chez Jules for our anniversary and had a lovely meal. The waitress who served us was outstanding. The right balance of friendliness and professionalism. The food was very good and the bœuf bourguignon was more than...ample. We were treated to a glass of fizz upon arrival to celebrate our anniversary.More

Really great French style meal and not that pricey. Better than the cote alternative in my view. Wines reasonable value. Service great. Shame we missed the Tuesday special, will have to go back to Chester and book ahead, as it looks great value.

We were staying in Chester for the races and looking forward to eating here having read all the good reviews. The problem is the noise which made talking to my husband almost impossible. We ordered a bottle of red wine but even the poor waitress struggled...to hear us above the din and brought and opened a bottle of white! We shouted our food orders and again our waitress misheard and brought the wrong meal for myself.Having been told it would be a 25 minute wait for the pork or chicken I kept the `wrong`main course and the food is good but not exceptional. Tables are very close together which doesn't help the feeling of noise and rush but going to the toilet upstairs I realised there is a large room up there which is much quieter. The following evening we ate at another French restaurant in the city and found this much more to our taste....plus we could actually converse with each other!More

When the wine offer is on the restaurant is very busy. It has a good atmosphere and I don’t find it too loud.
