We were in the upstairs room for a party for about 40 people. The room was attractive and we were made welcome. The food was a little below my expectations in this French quality atmosphere, for me it was not French enough on the fixed price menu, but well cooked and presented. The service was a little slow, but we were in no hurry and mass catering is always slower. Check on parking before you go (map on the website) as there are double yellows and one way streets. I will be happy to visit this restaurant again

This was our second takeaway meal on 27 June. The Chez Jules Fixed Price menu was available and we had Coq au Vin and Chicken Fricasse. I had three courses and my wife had two. Great ordering through their website and we gave them our car reg no. and details and time slot. There were a couple of cars outside with their boots open waiting. Great welcome and service to the car!! Boot closed and off we went. It's great to see how creative Chez Jules has become with them having to reinvent their cuisine into a take away format. We were not disappointed with our meals and the portions just right and great value for money. Popped the creme brulee under the grill for a few mins to caramelise. We both cant'wait to get back to our favourite window table and enjoy our Chez Jules dining experience. In the meantime have a go with their takeaway . You won't be disappointed. Tres Bien

We visited on a Thursday afternoon to celebrate a Birthday, although we hadn't booked we managed to get a table.Covid precautions in place including hand sanitizer and distancing,we have visited the restaurant on several occasions and never been disappointed with the food or service, our waitress was polite and attentive, we had the two course set menu which was very good value, the beef bourguignon was absolutely delicious and their was ample fresh vegetables cooked to perfection. Fabulous place to visit for a special occasion, we will be returning soon.

We went to this restaurant a few years ago and had a wonderful dining experience, so decided to go again. We were shuffled into a large upstairs room which was crowded and extremely loud, like a busy canteen. Our waiter was banging plates down with so much force that a piece of crockery smashed and hit me in the face, I mentioned this and he just took the broken piece off me but gave no apology. My starter was Cullen skink which was very tasty but there was just enough to cover the bottom of a bowl. My main was lamb shoulder which I had to send back, as it was a lump of fat with very little meat, I explained this to the waiter who said ‘have you ever had shoulder before? It is a fatty piece of meat’, I explained that I had eaten this many times but never had to send it back! The second lamb shoulder was dry and without flavour! My drink then arrived with a Morrison’s sticker stuck to my glass, and then another waiter dropped a small plate which then hit me on the leg! This is probably the worst dining experience I have ever had. In fairness when I spoke with the assistant manager, she was very polite and apologetic and immediately refunded our meal.

Bonjour Debbie, We are disappointed that your meal with us did not live up to your expectations or indeed our own expectations for our guests. Your feedback is of the highest importance to us and once again please accept my apologies for the dissatisfaction that you felt during your visit. I personally dealt with your complaints on the evening and proceeded to refund your whole bill to you. Despite my best efforts to try and re-compensate your experience, I feel It is a slight shame that you felt it necessary to give us a 1 star Trip Advisor review. Kind Regards, Alice, Assistant Manager

After 5 years away I foolishly came back to give Chez Jules another try with my family in tow. We figured during the Eat Out to Help Out scheme we couldn't go wrong, especially as the restaurant were still honouring their Tuesday wine offer. Sadly I was mistaken. The escargot were gritty, tasted of earth and none of the garlic butter topping, it seemed unlikely they were cooked in the garlic butter as they certainly took on none of the flavour, they were also tough and rubbery, unlike the snails we've had both in France and elsewhere in the world. If they can't source good quality eating snails or prepare and cook them correctly, there's no point having it on the menu. The ham hock and chorizo terrine was fine, but as salty as one might expect from a blend of those two meats. Some thinly sliced apple or a sharp apple gel set on top would have helped it no end. Three of our table ordered steaks, none of them were cooked correctly, the medium was well done, the medium/rare was medium and the rare was medium/rare. One of our party had the half chicken, the breast of which was going dry as one might expect if it's not given enough basting during cooking. I ordered the cod which arrived so far over it was woolly and dry and devoid of all flavour. I sent it back and ordered a steak, asking for it rare so that it might arrive a nice medium/rare! As it happened it came out rare this time so I lopped off a chunk for my youngest brother who'd missed out on his rare steak. It did take a long time for my replacement to arrive so I'm not sure it was bumped to the top of the queue. Cheeseboard was fine, although two pieces on the Tuesday Menu is a bit stingy. House white is apparently drinkable, the red less so. It's the sort of thing the French exclusively send over to us as they wouldn't serve it to their worst enemies as table wine. Despite making complaints over the snails and the fish, we weren't offered anything other than the cursory apology from the waiting staff and when our bill arrived it was miscalculated, but by then we'd had enough and just wanted out of there. Never again. They simply can't be trusted to cook things correctly, sending out fish that far over shows a complete lack of skill or oversight, or both.

We ate early enough for me to have the set menu and my husband had the Tues offer...2 courses and a bottle of wine. The food was delicious, filling and amazing value for money. The restaurant has a great buzzing atmosphere, staff are attentive without being intrusive and we will definitely be regular customers there.

We came here on valentines night. The meal was wonderful. I had the pate, then the duck. My wife had Camembert then the roulade. Both came with a pan of delicious veg (creamed cabbage and glazed carrots and dauphinois potatoes).A selection of deserts at the end - we loved the lemon posset. Beer was fine and they did cocktails which pleased. Wine was a bit pricey at £25. But a lovely meal. £95 total (3 courses for two, one beer, one cocktail, bottle of red wine) Good atmosphere and service.

Lovely French restaurant just inside the city walls with fabulous deals. We took advantage of the Tuesday two courses and a bottle of wine for £25 which was excellent value. The restaurant was large but still had a vibrant buzzing atmosphere The food was good from the l’escargot, steak frites to the die for puddings and the staff were friendly and went out of they’re way to make you feel welcome. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Chez Jules

It was so nice two days ago to get a telephone call from Alice from Chez Jules. We have been eating at this restaurant regularly for years. Alice offered us a complementary takeaway. We are not generally takeaway people and prefer the ambiance of a restaurant. But as you know that option seems a far distant dream. Anyway we were sent an email and asked to order from a delectable menu on line and booked a slot to pick our meal up. I didn't think the experience would mirror dining in the restaurant. With a nice wine chilling at home we went to pick up our meal. All four courses were beautifully packaged and hot. The quality of the super salad starters was amazing and meals in themselves. My wife had feta cheese and I had smoked mackerel . Mains were beef bourguignon and crisp belly pork followed by creme brûlée and selection of french cheese. It was a real treat. We long for the time when we return and the exceptional warm welcome one gets. In the meantime we would highly recommend Chez Jules excellent takeaway.

Ok, so the title of the review should say it all, what else to add? Went here for our wedding anniversary and was looking for something a bit different. Taking tips from the Gordon Ramsay approach to a restaurant, the menu was limited to a choice of maybe half a dozen starters, about seven mains and a similar amount of desserts. But the range of choices was decent enough to provide everyone with at least something they fancied, and by concentrating their efforts on fewer dishes rather than a menu the size of a bible, it meant the food was very good. It wasn't Michelin fancy dining (don't let the Gordon Ramsay reference mislead you there), but it wasn't Michelin prices either. Three courses for £21 the week before Christmas is hardly taking liberties. And in line with the hearty, good honest food served, the wine list was also very reasonably priced. As you might expect from the name of the restaurant, the food and wine list was heavily accented towards French, but there were also sufficient other wine options for those preferring something Spanish, American etc. Every grape (not bottle) was also available by the glass or bottle for those wanting to recreate their own wine flight! Staff were warm and welcoming and we had a great time. Delighted with our find, we will make a detour next time we're in Chester. Enchanté!

We have been here a couple of times and enjoyed the food. When we visited last week however we were left disappointed. It was a Saturday and we went for brunch. We have had this before and enjoyed it, however on this occasion we didnt . We both ordered the breakfast, one vegetarian and one normal. First of all we ordered a latte which was cold, then when the breakfasts arrived they both looked like they had been sitting under hot lamps as the bacon and the black pudding were both overdone and hard and the poached eggs were wet. The scrambled eggs on the vegetarian were overdone. Overall the food was very disappointing.

Was offered water on arrival before we had even sat down, had half a glass each, the waiter then left two bottles on the table, we ordered Seabass which was overcooked and dry, Pork Belly that came with salty lukewarm lentils and 2 Sirloins, 1 med rare, which was well done and had to be sent back. It came back as we had all finished and so we said we didn't want it, they took it off the bill with bad grace and there was a charge of £2.95 each for 4 half glasses of water. Will not be back !!

Another delicious meal at ChezJoules. Beef Bourguignon with the pan of mixed veg on the side includes the yummy red cabbage and dauphinois potatoes which is just lovely. Chicken liver parfait starter served with Toasted Brioche was also lovely all topped off with a bottle of Shiraz - great place to catch up with friends as it’s not too loud so can still enjoy a good conversation whilst enjoying pleasant food and attentive staff. Of course we will be back....

I have been a couple of times in the last month or two and it has been amazing both times. First time I had the French Onion Soup which was delicious, so rich and tasty. My partner had the goats cheese which was also top notch. For mains I had Coq au Vin as I hadn't had it from here before, I wish I had tried it sooner! This time me and a friend took part in the Tuesday offer, the value for money on this offer is unbeatable. The smoked mackerel starter was light and tasty, I have had it before so knew it would be good! And the lamb shoulder was so ridiculously tender. The service is faultless and always very friendly and we always feel welcome when we come! Chez Jules is easily one of my favourite places to eat out in Chester

It is always a joy to visit Chester, and even better to revisit a restaurant that is such a mainstay of the Chester dining scene. It was a classy and sophisticated restaurant in 1997, with checked tablecloths and a handwritten menu. It’s still going strong! Very reasonably priced prix fixe, delicious food, very friendly staff. Delectable bread, with unsalted Normandy butter, was free! It’s always full of happy people eating lovely French food, and good French wine. They do an awesome deal on a Thursday, where you get a two course dinner for £20, and a free film to watch in their cinema, which we are eager to try soon.
