Beatifully positioned about 8 miles from Chester, you'll need a few bob spare whether its to put your boat here, or to buy lunch, but it's a hidden gem,

Visited here for lunch during a short break in Cheshire - it was a little difficult to find being based on the marina, but we received a warm welcome and the staff here are so helpful and friendly. Our food was piping hot, and delicious....Can't fault it at all. The setting is lovely by the water and it had a nice atmosphere as there were clearly lots of regulars enjoying Sunday lunch. We will be back to try the roasts next time we're in the area.More

Visited The Boathouse at Tattenhall Marina midweek, as we had been at the Ice Cream Farm and wanted an alternative choice for lunch. Six of us had a very enjoyable light lunch - soup, paninis, cheese pie with salad, bacon butty, fries. Soft drinks plus...one alcoholic! Food is freshly prepared so we had to wait a while but all very nice when it came - all of us were very happy with what we had. Recommend the coffee and walnut cake, made on the premises. Staff very friendly. Nice little cafe, all very clean. Not well signposted - head for the marina opposite the Ice Cream Farm. We will certainly go again if we are in the vicinity.More

Came here with a friend as it looked lovely on the website. However firstly not signposted and almost impossible to find. After asking a local we eventually found it and had to be buzzed in to get our car through the barrier! When we got...into the cafe we were disappointed. We were sat there for 15 minutes waiting for menus and two other couples/friends walked in and got given menus on the spot. The guy could see we were looking around and waiting as we didn’t want to be rude but in the end we just left out of embarrassment at being ignored by staff! I wouldn’t bother with this place.More

What a trip - the only way to describe it is as a calamity! We planned to go on Sunday - their website states they offer Sunday lunch, all day breakfast and other items. Something for everyone! We arrived at 11.40am and were seated at...a table. A few minutes later the waiter came over and he advised us the kitchen didn’t open until 12pm. I thought that was a little odd as they served all day breakfasts - but it was fine, we’d have a drink while waiting. Three drinks were ordered, the waiter didn’t write anything down, which again was fine - until two minutes later he was back having completely forgotten what we ordered! At 12pm another family walked in who were given menus before us, and there order was also taken before us! We also weren’t given any info on Sunday lunch, which seemed strange, but that was ok as we’d go for all day breakfast. Around 10 mins later our order was finally taken - but not for what we actually wanted as no breakfast items were apparently available, they don’t do them any more and were waiting new menus! Not ideal as the website states it, and it takes up half the menu! And why not just tell people as you hand them menus out? A few minutes later the waitress came over - the chap who took our order had forgotten (again!) what we’d ordered so she had to go through it all with us! As time went on we watched as more tables were filled, no one was advised the all day breakfast items weren’t available, and most tried to order them! Then people started to arrive who had booked for Sunday lunch - when they all sat down they were given a menu which had no Sunday lunch on it! I heard several people challenge the waiter on it, where a board was produce with ‘Sunday lunch baps’ on it. I’ve no idea why we weren’t offered these, and I could tell people were very frustrated as they’d booked expecting a ‘proper’ Sunday lunch and weren’t advised when booking they wouldn’t actually be serving one. To top all the other chaos, the chef came out at one point looking very frazzled saying she didn’t know what food went with what order! Not great. When our food came out it was ok - my husband and daughter enjoyed theirs, but my bbq chicken panini had been waived close to the sauce but not actually covered in it, and when we tried the chips they tasted of fish. They’d clearly been cooked in the same oil as lots of fish and if you’d closed your eyes you wouldn’t know it was potato. As all of the calamity went on, the man I assume is the manager seemed completely oblivious to the whole thing and didn’t help in any way. It could have been a very different experience, and to be honest our trip did amuse us as it was just so bad - but had I booked for Sunday lunch, or had been fixed on breakfast I would have been cross. If these are no longer available, the website needs to be updated, as do the menus. A very odd experience, and I don’t think I’d recommend anyone going unless they become much clearer on what they’re offering.More

Every time I go to the cafe it’s not open for food, Each week seemingly different - went for 12.00 today for coffee and food, coffee cold and no food. It’s NOT the new waiters fault, it’s management or the powers that be. They need...MORE staff to have normal hours. But the staff walk out after a few days, that speaks for itself…… I wanted a special evening meal for Thursday just gone, for 6 pm, NO NOT OPEN for food but offered food for 4pm. Who wants evening meal 4 pm….not us. I’ve been told to look on their fb page for dates and times, so have, WHERE IS IT? Says always open ? REALLY ! As a moorer, having asked all the questions before coming here with our boat, all my questions answered with a yes, “””” oh always open”””” oh yes, we do this we do that. I feel THOROUGHLY CHEATED. If it hadn’t cost a fortune to get our boat up here from down south, I would leave. I’m so peed off. The Marina itself is tranquil and in beautiful un spoilt country side, it’s the BOAT HOUSE CAFE management that let it down. Sad really. I will say a positive note. When the food is available it’s very good. The waiter’s waitresses are polite and helpful.More

We arrived after what had been a busy service, so had limited options, but this had to be a good sign! We ordered a hot beef sandwich and a hallumi panini, both very tasty. In fact the review of the beef was that it was...the best hot beef sandwich ever. The views are amazing here, it's a lovely setting Staff were pleasant and not overbearing. The only thing we would improve would be better signage to get here, boat owners only is off putting, and more soft drink options.More

Found out about this marina from local advertising and thought it would be a safe corvid free place to visit. Unfortunately we felt very let down.... we traveled over an hour to find the place then found it very difficult to gain entrance (we had...to be let in by another person visiting who had the "secret" code number for the barrier) We managed to find the toilets, only to find one cubicle had no toilet paper , the hand drier was not working AND there was no paper towels to wipe your hands !! and this in spite of corvid regulations. The permanent menus were handed to us then taken back but I did not see them sanitized during our stay. There was plenty of sanitizer available for customer use by the doors although I did not see it used much!! After requesting our table be cleaned, we ordered drinks - but had to send BOTH glasses back as they were dirty!! We were then told as the electricity had gone off it was cold sandwiches only!! Had we not been waiting for a while by now, we would have gone somewhere else but being new to the area we didn't know where to go. Our sandwiches were very nice though and we enjoyed them. People serving, including the chef, were pleasant enough but I do wish they would all wear masks and wear them properly. Also ensure that the one way system was adhered to - people continually coming in the "No Entry" door instead of walking round. We are sure this is a good place if you want to moor your boat but not really suitable for a family day out.More

We recently noticed an advertisement on Facebook about this cafe ...so as soon as we could we decided to drive some 10 miles to try it out !!😢😢😢 how disappointing our experience was.....I can only say ... Don’t advertise breakfast when your chef doesn’t arrive...until 11 am..... we would have liked a cooked breakfast and was only offered toast on Sunday on arrival at 10.30 ...as we were passing thro we decided not to wait !!!More

I’ve no idea about breakfasts but the afternoon tea was delicious! I believe they are now doing, or soon will be, sunday lunches/roasts! I’d highly recommend this location.
