We were staying at Looe Bay Holiday Park next door, we visited the Coddy Shack when we were in Looe last. This visit was very different to before due the whole Covid-19 situation. We visited on a Friday evening around 6pm, there was about 10 in queue and 15 waiting for orders. It did take about 20 minutes before we could order and a further 25 minutes before our food was order, but could see it was constant queues and very busy. Went back to our caravan to eat - the cod was superb. I only ordered a normal size cod but it was a very large piece. Chips also very good. My wife said the sausage was just ok but enjoyed the chips. The fish and chips cost about £7.00..... dare I say they could easily put their price up and still be as busy, really was a good portion. Locally to me in Torquay a good fish and chips is over £10.00 and still not the same sized fish as the coddy shack!

Our second visit here after enjoying it so much last year. The girls ate a child’s fish and chips which were good value and delicious whilst my husband and I enjoyed fish starters (scallops and fish chowder) and small cod and chips - again all really good with the fish being particularly good- chips just okay. Great service with a friendly, helpful waitress.

A good fish and chip shop. The cod was good and the children's portions a good size. The underside of the haddock was a little too greasy so couldn't eat it that part but generally happy. Make sure you get there early to order your takeaway as the queues get very long and they cook everything fresh so we had a 30 minute wait from ordering.

We visited the Coddy Shack on recommendation from family who went there last year, plus the queue for takeaway was huge so this instilled a positive feeling about having dinner here. This was the week before wearing face masks was compulsory, so it did seem quite busy out front, however they did have good spacing between tables and plenty of staff were around. We ordered a calamari and scallops starter, which was lovely. The calamari may have been frozen but it was still tasty and not overcooked. For main I had plaice fillets and they were perfect. My husband had the extra large cod...and boy was it large. However he did seem to struggle eating it and felt like it had a funny after taste. I also thought it strange that cod would still have the skin on the underside. It was quite late in the evening so he ate what he could and then left the majority of his “cod”. When it came to paying the bill a member of staff asked “who had the cod”, my husband stated it was him. She asked if it was ok and he said yes as he’s not the type who would want to offend, the staff member then said “well that’s good, because it was haddock”!! Hence the reason why he thought it had an odd taste...he hates haddock! Anyway, we paid the bill and left with a feeling of being a bit “done over” and as if they were mocking us. Would we go again? Probably not. Yes there was some nice elements to the experience but feeling a bit mugged off when you’re paying £70 for a fish supper is not something we’d like to experience again. Also not sure, but the chips looked like frozen chips. Reputation is a huge part of catering and having read some other reviews about Coddy Shack we feel their reputation is from better days gone by.

We’d heard really great things about the Coddy Shack so I called up to book a table for a Monday evening, the lady I spoke to explained they only had one table left but it wasn’t popular as it was situated right near the entrance so lots of people walking past- not ideal in current world! I said we’d prefer not to have that table so could I therefore book for Tuesday evening instead on one of the other tables- no problem at all. We arrived at 19:20 for our 19:30 booking to be left standing there for over 5 minutes, many members of waiting staff walked past us without so much as looking over, it would’ve taken 2 seconds to say someone will be with you soon. Just as we were about to give up and leave a member of staff checked our name off the list and we were shown to what we now call ‘the Covid table’. They are not being dramatic when they say nobody wants to sit there, no partition between it and another table and it really is in the main walkway, having specifically booked for Tuesday to avoid this table I enquired as to why we were being put there. The member of staff tried to tell us there were no other tables available, it was only when we pointed to several empty tables for 2 that she then changed tact and said well everyone after you is not going to want to sit there too. Quite frankly as a customer this is not my problem, I specifically asked for another table and do not appreciate being made to feel like a second class customer to people who show up after us. Finally after a lot of sighing we were shown to an alternative table where we sat for another 10 minutes before we finally got someone’s attention to ask to order drinks. The restaurant was busy but not busy enough to justify a 45 minute wait for starters, had we been told the wait would be that long we’d have packed snacks! To our amusement every single couple who arrived after us was offered ‘the Covid table’ and understandably declined, I don’t understand why this table is even there- total waste of time. All evening people were sat at a table and served so clearly we were incorrectly fobbed off at the beginning. Sadly this ruined our night and although the food was good the shocking service and the way we were spoken to is why we are giving a 3 star rating. I would strongly suggest ‘the Covid table’ is simply removed to stop this happening in future.

We are a family of six with three young children and we visited this restaurant on a quiet lunchtime with only one other table occupied. Our children were using the pool table and while they are not pool experts they were playing quietly and responsibly and we were supervising them. Apparently the pool table was new so the Manager Jason [ ] asked the staff to remove our children from the pool table because he was afraid of them damaging the fabric. They did so albeit without any apology. I checked the table and there was no damage to it, and the children were crying as they felt they were being accused of doing something wrong. We had already ordered our desserts at this point and this ruined the rest of our meal. I asked to speak to the manager when the bill arrived to understand what the problem was but he had apparently already left. The staff were apologetic and said they were not told that kids were not allowed to play on the table, and we had not damaged it in any way. I spent £107.70 on a lunch time meal and this experience ruined it for us. I would have liked the opportunity to speak to the Manager but he didn’t show his face. We will not be back and would not recommend this place to families as the Manager clearly does not value our presence despite having an otherwise empty restaurant. What a miserable man.

Visited early Friday evening with great expectations having read reviews and website. Whilst the phrase cooked to order sounds good, a 45-50 minute wait to receive your food is excessive to say the least. At known busy times, you would expect the cooking process to be slightly ahead of the queue orders... alas not the case. Perhaps less chit chat behind the fryer would help! Once ready the food was disappointing. Tasteless haddock, soggy batter underneath, skin on and full of bones. For the higher than average price being charged, we expected more!! To add further insult, no salt and vinegar had been added, despite being asked our preference. In all, a total waste of time and over-priced meal, much of which was wasted and binned. Definitely not for us ... perhaps we are spoilt with a plethora of excellent fish and chip outlets in Yorkshire.

After reading that this was one of the best fish and chip places in Looe we decided to give it a go and see what the buzz was about. Before I continue, I will say that the food was lovely, nice chips and good quality fish and battered sausage. However, we had to wait nearly 45 minutes to order and then an additional 30 minutes for our food to be ready which was not a great start, especially as we didn’t have a big order. I have never had to wait for fish and chips for that long. It was very disappointing when we got to order after all that time there was no haddock at all and no large cod even though this was considerably early on in the evening. Also, the portion sizes were quite small, we were advised that two large chip portions would be good for a family of 4 as the portions were huge and stacked high on the cardboard dishes, however this was not the case, the cardboard dishes were barely half full. It was a lovely meal, however the wait, lack of fish stock and small portion sizes almost ruined it.

We arrived at Coddy Shack after being told by others it was the best around, but we were bitterly disappointed. Upon arrival (for takeaway), there was a huge queue which was so long it was out onto to the car park, but we continued to wait for at least 30 mins. At the order desk, there was an extremely rude member of staff who needs to learn some customer service skills!! The food itself (2x cod and chips and scampi and chips) was nothing special, chips tasted oily and there was no option of haddock only cod. The scampi was overpriced at £6.50 for just the scampi with extra for chips. There wasn’t even salt and vinegar on the food when we specifically asked for it! Bad experience and such a let down after lots of good reviews.

Due to the popularity of The Coddyshak, we had to book several days in advance and when we arrived there was a very long queue for the takeaway and the restaurant was almost full. Our drinks order was swiftly taken and delivered and our food order was given and the starters arrived around 15 minutes later. All 3 dishes calamari, whitebait and scallops were cooked to perfection, all with tasty accompanying dips. The mains took much longer, after enquiring 30 or so minutes after our starter plates had been removed. It was obvious that our order had been missed. However we were assured that our mains were being prepared and that we were given complimentary drinks. The mains arrived around 5 minutes later the three fish dishes, battered Hake and two pan seared cod were cooked to perfectly. Unfortunately, the Thai fishcakes were somewhat overcooked and lacked any authentic flavours. We appreciate that it's not easy to get everything right all of the time, but when your main dishes have been delayed, you would expect the food to be spot on. Despite the disappointment with the fishcakes, we would go back and also recommend The Coddyshack to our friends.

Not a great night. Poor beer quality ( Tribute like water) to start with after waiting ages to get our drinks, Gusiness pint was really short measure not even filled to the top. Hake was good but one of our parties cod had soggy batter underneath, mentioned this to staff but no feedback from manager. Took 50mins to get our food so risk of waiting another 30 mins for another cod was not worth it. Overall a poor night, been numerous times in the past but will have to consider another place for good fish and chips .☹️ P.S. Avoid the draft Coca-Cola, tasted like Syrup not mixed properly.

Firstly let me say that: a) I can cook b) I eat out a lot, in restaurants of all types c) I work in Leisure, tourism and hospitality. That said, we arrived, on time for our booking, we were seated and told there was a wait for food, which was fine. Then we were ignored. The restaurant was at about 10% of it's capacity. We asked to order drinks and food and then, while waiting, we had to ask again for a further drinks order. After 45 minutes when only 1 starter, 2 mains and 2 desserts had emerged from the kitchen I asked the server when we might expect our food. I was told, "I only bring it out, you'll have to ask that lady there." And she walked off. No apology. I asked the appropriate lady who, in an uninterested manner strolled over to the kitchen and returned shortly after to say, "it's being plated up now." 10 minutes later it arrived with no apology and the fingerbowl sloshed into my lap which the server didn't even notice. I ordered a platter of Thai fish cake, whitebait, moules mariniere, prawns in garlic and fried brie, a dish that can be produced in 10 minutes given suitable prep. My wife ordered lasagne and chips and even then had to chase the chips. The food was mediocre, I've had food as good at Wetherspoons. We'd very nearly finished before anyone asked if the food was ok, I'm surprised they bothered as they'd shown little interest in anything else. A completely miserable experience, best avoided at all costs. If the management replies to this to say we should have raised our issues at the time (and I doubt they care) perhaps you should employ staff with basic customer service skills then we might have felt able to.

The takeaway option pleased me more but I dont know if it is only in operation because of covid 19. The restaurant has a very nice ambience with nice warm lighting plenty of space and friendly and helpful staff who were happy to comply with our peculiar menu requests as a family with 2 picky eaters. The toilets are very clean and theres plenty of outdoor seating. It is also very close to the caravan and motorhome site and also looe bay holiday park

Was recommended to me a few years ago by a friend, and I have always been grateful! We visit the area quite often, and regularly buy fish and chips from Coddy Shack when we are there. My partner didn't believe me when I told him not to get large portions as we would struggle to finish them... the dog ate well that evening! Very generous portions, beautifully cooked every time, superb curry sauce, always fresh local ingredients... probably the best fish and chips I have ever had, and will always be back for more!

Arrived promptly and was shown to our table, restaurant wasn’t that busy at this time.,Waited 20 mins before notifying the waitresses we’d not even had a drinks order taken. We had our 18 year old twins with us and as it was a celebration we ordered them a gin each which the waitress delivered, however she then proceeded to make a fuss to everyone who would listen, apart from us that she believed they were underage, which they are not! The food arrived and 2 out of the 4 meals didn’t have finger bowls, even though we were all eating shellfish. My husband ordered bottled water and was given a glass of tap water, when he asked to change it a bottle of water it was brought to our table with no glass. After finishing our meal we waiting another 25 mins before asking a waitress to clear our table. The lady who appeared to be in charge did not manage her staff sufficiently and this was more apparent as we’d visited two days before 11/8/20 and the service was excellent, however a different lady had been supervising. Hence the reason we were eager to return so soon. Good food but very poor, unprofessional service!
