Ate here with a colleague Nice setting Friendly service Good food Crab chowder and mussels for me Nice glad of red too Would go again
Fantastic meal for four of us. Can’t recommend highly enough. The food had some amazing flavours throughout the courses and the wine was a perfect match for the meal. Good selection of dishes for adults and kids at very reasonable prices, we will definitely be...coming back.More
Just had dinner here (October 23) and had a lovely meal. Stunning old place and the menu gave plenty of options. Food was amazing (the burger was the best I’d had in a long time and the sausage starter was really tasty), good prices and...great portions. But most of all the service was amazing. Alex and her team made us feel really at home and looked after us, our cockapoo and our 4 month old baby. We felt very valued and at home. Thank you for a lovely dinner!!More
Had a fantastic evening. Atmosphere, food and service superb! Cosy, warm, and inviting! Will definitely be back again soon!
Yes, the planks of wood that you sit on in the Smoke Shack are uncomfortable. But the food was delicious! Having driven for 8 hours to get to Cornwall, this place was a real welcome for our dinner that evening. Staff were very friendly, would...definitely return.More
It is what you would expect from a Smoke Shack! An outdoor barn - assume freezing in evenings/autumn. If you are expecting the pub then it is most definitely not! It is next door. Simple menu mostly BBQ. We went for lunch and had a...BBQ box each. It was very tasty and plentiful great for lunch.More
The Smoke Shack - Absolutely delicious food, flavour flavour flavour from our first mouthful of BBQ buttermilk chicken box, the melt in your mouth classic burger, the Buttermilk burger with Korean sauce to the waffle deserts - the chocolate waffle and the biscoff waffle. Also...they make an excellent cup of tea. So from our family a full round of applause, for great value served by friendly staff, we will definitely be backMore
Was looking forward to my birthday meal before going to the circus as the food last summer was outstanding. But unfortunately not on this occasion. Staff are lovely & helpful & setting is good but the food was dry & unappetising & not cheap! We...won’t return.More
Arrived from a local Airbnb with low but hopeful expectations having read recent reviews. Unfortunately we were indeed disappointed to find very over priced menu, no atmosphere in the cold shed and main pub shut ( only opens on Sunday) After a drink we left...and found a much better option in a local village! Don’t botherMore
A real shame that this isn’t as good as it used to be. Last year the smokeshack did amazing Sunday roasts. Went today and the food was overpriced “bbq”, same as other offerings locally like Hub box and Sam’s but pricier, not as nice and...you have to sit in the cold on a plank of wood bench. Food came out cold and didn’t match the descriptions on the menu, the staff seemed annoyed when we didn’t want it to be replaced and left. We weren’t aware that the food offerings would be so different this year because the menus aren’t on the website.More
I’ve been going to the Foxes for many years since it turned from Viners back in the day, but I have to be honest it’s lost it’s pizzazz!! The staff are still really lovely and a pint of offshore is always welcome on a lovely...evening but as for the food is concerned when it comes to the Smokeshack it’s absolutely disgustingly overpriced for what you get! This review is not about the flavour or taste which is acceptable but the price for the deceptive ‘basket’ which is only half as deep as it looks (genuinely!) it was very bad last year with poor quality overcooked barbecue and I was hoping that it would change but it’s just got worse and is charging prices that don’t justify its efforts. Sorry but I’d say enjoy a pint but grab a decent bit of food elsewhere.More
We arranged our staff social evening at Foxes revenge and Millie and her team were excellent. Nothing was too much trouble, we had gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian and vegan options and the customer service was brilliant all night. Thank you for a lovely evening.
Not good. Went with 3 friends. Been there twice, never again. First time was towards then end of lockdown and we had to eat outside in wigwam style tents and then were served bbq which was awful. My friend who loves a Sunday roast recommended...that I go to the foxes revenge to try their menu again. It may be that the Sunday lunch is great, but my experience last night taught me that generally the quality is not there. Menu is very limited. Ok accept that I had a burger. Which was served with chips (£18) that was it.. no salad, no presentation. The waitress was lovely. But when I asked how it was cooked she couldn’t explain. No wonder, when it was served to my wife it was bulky off the bone chicken served in a bun with a kimichi slaw. Again no real presentation just plonked down on the table with frozen chip.. which were properly cooked. One of my friends had the mussels with bacon. The mussels were rather small and dominated by the stringy bacon. £11 for a 175 glass of wine !!! No I would not recommend.More
We are staying on the site next to the Fox’s and called in on the night we arrived. Greeted and seated by Millie, have to say her beautiful personality shone through, such a lovely, attentive, caring person and a credit to the pub. We had...sausage and mash and the lamb wraps, both delicious. Millie booked us in for Sunday lunch and we thanked her for wonderful service. We arrived on Sunday and how nice was it for Millie to remember us and seat us. We ordered Crispy squid and the mushrooms starters to be followed by the 3 meat roast and the lamb roast, the squid wasn’t edible but the mushrooms were delicious, Millie was very disappointed and said she’d tell the chef. The roast arrived and unfortunately the vegetables apart from the cauliflower (served separately) and roast potatoes were Luke warm, the plates served on also Luke warm, the beef in the 3 roast meal also very tough. The assistant manager brought more vegetables but these were also warm not hot. What a surprise when paying bill for the squid and husband roast to have been removed, the assistant manager handled the whole situation very professionally and we praised him and Millie for this, thank you and we would return.More
