I normally find myself unimpressed especially by pubs local to us, however this one surprised me! We were welcomed by very friendly members of staff who showed us to our table and very helpfully explained their COVID-19 procedures and the app they are using as their main ordering system (this was very easy to use!). When we ordered our food it took a while to arrive but I will forgive them for this due to current circumstances. I ordered a 16oz med-rare rump steak and it was cooked to PERFECTION #beststeakever and I ordered 2 of the childrens for my little darlings and they were very reasonably priced as they came with a choice of dessert and a drink. I had a cheesecake and it was beautifully creamy and my babys both had a chocolate fudge cake. All the portion sizes were large, I struggle to believe anyone could leave here hungry. Overall amazing experience will definitely visit again on future visits to sunny Cornwall 🌞🌞🌞

We were staying nearby in Newquay mid September and ate here on 3 consecutive evenings. Food ordered via an easy to use app (it must have been easy - I managed it!). Great selection on the menu for main courses, huge portions and everything we had was tasty and value for money. Good drink choices too at very reasonable prices. Lovely service every time we visited, we were made to feel very welcome. Thank you everyone at the Farmer's Arms.

Given the situation we had to book to be sure of a reservation. We went for gammon steak and the kids went for pasta and burger. The service was fast, the food was very tasty and at £45 for the 5 of us (2 adults and 3 kids) I thought good value too. What more can one ask for?

First night in Newquay and we tried several places to grab a meal having not booked anywhere (because it was our first night). Even here, the inside tables were all booked and so we camped out in the outdoor seating area (car park). Being right out of the way we did think it would be quieter, but even so we downloaded the all important app, scanned the menu and ordered. Drinks came within 5 minutes or so, and then food maybe 30 minutes or so, which I guess can be expected. My choice was ham, eggs and chips and oh blimey !. What I got was half a pig, two eggs and a mountain of chips. The ham was amazing, absolutely lovely. Trouble is outdoors, you have to eat quickly, but hey ho. Nice friendly little pub making the best of a bad time and deserving of trade. Good effort.

We booked this as we had a voucher for a a Xmas present. The place had a lovely atmosphere and the service was very good. The food itself was quite nice apart from our starters which tasted frozen and not cooked properly as they were barely lukewarm. The biggest problem was the voucher itself. It had a value of £49, but I was told on arrival I would have to pay separately for drinks. On top of that I was told I would have to pay extra for a steak. Our total bill came to roughly £35, yet I still had to pay for the drinks and extra for the steak. There was no mention of the remaining £14 left on the voucher when settling the bill. Surely the drinks and steak excess could have been included in the price then I would have been happy to leave the remainder as a tip.

We decided to book the Farmers Arms when on a holiday as a treat, however on review the food was horrendous, oven cooked chips and a lasagna that tasted like gristle with a hint of Chinese all spice. Which was strangely on all food served. The mushroom stroganoff was just strange and was not at appetising, however the rice was cooked well. This wouldn’t be as bad if the prices reflected the quality and standard of the cooking. If you still want to eat here, please follow the lights that looks very similar to a particular area in Amsterdam. (On reflection this indicated the type of establishment).

WOW ! Thank You For Your Review First May I Just Say That We Do Not Do Oven Chips And Most Of Our Meals Are Under £10.00 Which For The Meal You Get Is Very Good Value. ( As Per Most Of Our Reviews ) I Have Never Quite Had A Review Like This One, So I Take It The Food We Served Wasn't To Your Liking. Mushroom Stroganoff Using Wild Mushrooms Cant Understand What You Didn't Like. I Was So Pleased That Our Rice Was Up To Your Standard And As For The Chinese Spice This Is Something We Haven't Got In Our Kitchen. How Ever The Only Seasoning We Use Is Sea Salt And Pepper To Season Our FRIED Chips With. All Of Our Food Is Local. I Would Maybe Say That Our Red Opps Sorry Purple Outside Light Set Off The Pub And Maybe Amsterdam Could Be A Better Area For You To Holiday.

Myself, my wife and 2 children ordered food and drinks on their app , after a hour and a quarter and 2 tables who came in after us got their food went up to the bar spoke to the landlord for him to say 'well if someone came in after us and ordered 1 fish and chips they would be first as it's a small order' I was absolutely stunned and could not believe my ears. The best part of my experience was the fantastic waitress who said she was really sorry for the wait then came over crying as she obviously got told off for saying sorry to us! Shocking in this day and age. Will never go back to this pub and 100% would not recommend to others.

This is a lovely place set in a village location just outside Newquay and it offers the whole ‘village pub’ experience with indoor and outdoor seating, although it’s advisable to book for dinner if you want to sit inside. Ordering was a little difficult as you can only order via an app. They do offer free wi-if but it’s open / un-secure but if was difficult getting payment through. There is a ‘courtesy’ tablet they will lend you if you haven’t got a phone or yours won’t work but they will not take an order from you directly in any circumstances so you need to be able to use apps etc. Also, we were a larger group and made them aware that as we were two families we would place two orders but we were together so ideally would like food together.. they won’t do that either and we were served 25 minutes apart, so if you go as a group and want to eat together then order together and work it out afterwards! This place is let down badly by its staff. None of them were friendly or helpful, in fact some were rude. And almost made it seem that customers were an inconvenience. They have a policy of having to wear face coverings in all indoor areas, which isn’t a problem to us, but we were amused by the fact that only one member of staff had one one and that was pulled down over her chin whilst we saw her chasing and shouting at other customers.. One of the other highlights was when a young waiter passed us and my friend asked him if he has a minute.. he simply replied ‘no’ and carried on walking by.. The food that we had was excellent however, which is the one saving grace of the whole experience. With the great food and lovely venue this place could be excellent.. but not until the front of house staff are sorted out as they are very poor

Thank You For Your Review I Was So Pleased Your Liked The Venue And Food but would like to touch on the other points. Payment is very easy you can use Pay Pal on the App or Pay At The Table With Your Card Seams Straight Forward ! The reason we are using the App for ordering is two fold Covid in Newquay is the highest in the country at the moment and we don't want people lined up at the bar, we are trying to keep customers and staff safe. Also like most places we have staff problems and just don't have enough staff to take the orders we can sit over 90 people and would be impossible. Orders are cooked and served in the order people sent them, as you put two orders though with a 10min gap between them lots of other people are ordering at the same time, you kind of answered your complaint yourself order as one group, Easy! I struggle with your points on my staff, as you could see it was very busy that night but my staff are ALWAYS friendly and polite, all my staff wear face masks when in public areas. On a positive note i was pleased to see you enjoyed your food and our public house.

Eaten here as a family and also with friends on a number of occasions and never fails to impress, well cooked pub grub at very affordable prices. Food from the grill is always bang on and drinks on point too. Very friendly and service to match too. Would highly recommend a visit here if in the area.

Good Evening Michael So Pleased you were able to use the App we have tried to make it as simple as we can for people. Dark, Dingy makeover are words you may use, how ever many people like the traditional setting we offer. We Are a village local pub not a modern venue for the 18 to 20 year olds. As for your food i find it quite strange that you didn't say anything we DONOT use cheap stuff, as for the "Apple Pie" if you looked at the Menu you would have seen its Apple Tart. Something quite different to a pie. We hope you had a better time in a more modern place after you left us. Kind Regards

Lovely pub. Went for Sunday lunch, lunch was tasty and very reasonably priced with a three course meal for £14.95. Inside was smartly decorated and clean, log burner going made for a cosy atmosphere. Loved the doggy menu option. Staff were friendly and attentive, we were in a large camper and struggled with car park. We would definitely be back but would park roadside and walk in

We waited over half an hour for our drinks to come and waited nearly two hours for food which was not worth waiting for. The food descriptions did not match what came out for us to eat. There was a lack of communication with us from the staff and poor customer service. Nearly everyone in the restaurant went up to complain about waiting times and at least had to wait for over an hour. We came in at 8 and didn’t leave until 10:30. We will not be coming back here.

Thank you for your review on your discounted visit to the Farmers Arms, Yes you are correct that the wait times were long and you had to wait for your Government discounted Family Meal. I may wish to remind you and your table of 10 that the world is in a pandemic at the moment and we as a responsible business have to abide by our Covid risk assessment and keep all our staff and customers safe. We have reduced staffing and social distancing and as you would have seen on Wednesday it was very very busy, i must admit way more than we expected, we take booking for our tables inside so we can control the numbers but our App can not control the numbers of people ordering outside. I think every business in Newquay on Wednesday was the same. We have installed a very safe system but you are correct it dose take time, i did inform you there would be a wait and you seamed happy with that, we can cater for 90-100 most evenings but on Wednesday we did 200, but the staff did a Stirling job and carried on with the orders so we didn't disappoint anyone. you are incorrect when you said everyone was complaining as we had some good review with happy customers on the same night. The food came out as described on the menu but we did run out of bread rolls i am very sorry for this and can understand how much this would have changed your meal, May be you would like to try us on a normal priced night where i would be more than happy to buy you a drink.

Firstly I want to say the food we had at the Farmers Arms last night was very good and I have no issue with the quality. However the experience we received from a staff member was unacceptable. I booked a table for 4 two weeks ago as I knew it was bank holiday weekend and it would be busy. I also completely understand the pressures our hospitality industry goes through at this time of year, living locally. I arrived with my friends and waited to be allocated our reserved table. It’s was extremely busy (as expected) and the man behind to bar and a lady that worked there were clearly having issues around tables already. Eventually I was spoken to and I advised I had a reservation. Unfortunately he could find my reservation either on the sheets of paper he had or in the diary. He apologised as said he would sort a table. He showed us to a table and asked if it would be ok. We said it was fine. There were only 3 chairs at the table and so I turned round to take one of the chairs from the empty table behind us. The lady wearing a yellow dress, came storming over and shouted “don’t take that, that table is reserved”. I explained we had also reserved a table and she shouted back “this table isn’t reserved” pointing at the table we were about to sit at. My friend then tried to explain we’d been asked to sit here and she screamed back at the top of her voice “don’t speak to me like that, I don’t have to take this”. To say we were completely dumbfounded would be an understatement. She stormed off, came back with a chair and plonked it down. So we sat down at which point she returned with a condiment set and almost threw it on the table and walked off. We had been to the Farmers Arms a couple of times before but pre Covid. I couldn’t remember if we previously ordered at the bar or not but no one explained that was how we ordered. We just had to find out ourselves. To be honest, if it hadn’t of been bank holiday weekend in the height of the season, I would have walked out there and then but finding availability elsewhere would have been almost impossible. I can honestly say I have never come across such an obnoxious person working on a restaurant/pub in Cornwall before. I worked with the general public all my life and you never speak to customers in that manner no matter what pressures you may be under. I know over the last couple of years we have had some undesirable holidaymakers in Newquay but it doesn’t excuse the rudeness she showed to us for just trying to get the table we’d reserved. We could have been unpleasant as it was their mistake not reserving the table correctly but we accepted things do happen. Sadly there are not so many good pubs that serve proper “pub grub” anymore, but The Farmers Arms will not be one I will return to anymore. To add insult to injury, the “reserved” table behind was never used and we didn’t leave until 10pm. Maybe all along that was our reservation 🤔

Well Thank You So Much For Your Review and that you enjoyed the food. I have looked into why your booking wasn't in the diary and have asked all the staff and none of them can remember, but like you said we have been really busy with very nice and understanding customers. I was so pleased to hear that my staff did manage to find you a table, but recall there being issues around bookings as you stated in your review. Well there seams to be a lot of stomping around from my staff, i do believe that your friend first raised there voice, and to be fair my staff are not here to be spoken to like something of the bottom of your shoe. I have also reviewed our cctv and think you will find the lady in the yellow dress placed your cutlery box on your table, but must say that you stayed until 10pm so it must have been a pleasant evening for you all. We Do pride our selves on our lovely food and service as you can see from our reviews. i am sorry we could not come up to your standards on this occasion and pleased you got some good typing skills in after your visit to the Farmers Arms.

Visited here twice while on holiday in Newquay. We were really impressed with the food and service. The staff were so friendly. The portions of food were really big and great value for money. Lovely little beer garden and a separate room to play pool and darts. Covid 19 restrictions all adhered to. You can download a app and everything is delivered to your table. Would recommend this pub highly.

We managed to get a table at the last minute and were not disappointed. The staff were so friendly and helpful. They were able to cater for a gluten-free meal without any problem too. The food was amazing - excellent ingredients, large portions and very reasonably priced. This is what a local pub should be like - hope they have continued success.
