The main bar area is dominated by a pool table, to the point it makes it difficult to even get to the bar at times. I ordered some drinks and asked for a menu ... "there are some down in the seating area on the cutlery station" ... food orders are taken at the bar (after waiting for a suitable gap in pool cues). I ordered the vegan burger (served with chips, onion rings, salad and coleslaw) ... the salad was a single piece of burger sized lettuce under the burger, the coleslaw was absent. "Any sauces?" I asked, "they are up by the bar on the other cutlery station" ... yet another trip negotiating the pool cues. Would it really be so hard to bring you a menu after you were seated, bring sauces to the table? Maybe move the pool table to the downstairs area and put more tables in the bar? To be fair, the staff were friendly and pleasant, drinks were not expensive at all. Run by a young couple making a go of it and it is a decent venue but it felt very much like a working blokes pub in Hull rather than a holiday treat in Cornwall. I rather think they are perhaps missing a trick with the summer tourist trade who are perhaps looking for something a bit more special and would pay a bit more for the extra service.

We came for a family meal. My son had pizza, hubby had the pie and I had the veggie chilli. The pizza was really nice - although probably ever so slightly overdone. The pie looked (and apparently tasted!) absolutely amazing. The veggie chilli was very tasty although could probably have done with something like a garlic bread with it. Service was really friendly, very family friendly and good food. Reasonable price and nice atmosphere too- will definitely revisit!

We stopped in for a drink on the way back to our car and stumbled across a really beautiful pub staffed by genuinely friendly people who were glad we stopped by. Outside we enjoyed our drinks by the babbling Brook and greenery, we loved it so much we ordered lunch and the food was amazing. The pub was soo good I bought the T-shirt 🤣 Can't wait to go back there on our next visit

We had a superb evening meal here during our holiday in Polperro. The team at the pub were friendly and Ashley made us feel very welcome when we arrived. We can recommend the mussels and fish and chips. The mussels we had were local, from St Austell Bay, and were large, very well presented and delicious! Really worth a visit for some drinks and some food.

"Work like a sailor Drink like a pirate" This nautical themed pub and restaurant was a good place to eat in Polperro if what you are after is a nice pub. They have a fair selection of ordinary pub grub, incredibly friendly and helpful staff and a desire to keep the seagulls away from their customers. I've seen other reviews slate the food, but we thought it was good! Would recommend fish and chips, mussels, cheesy chips and fish pasta. We ate in the outside covered section while it rained - really well designed so none of us got wet. One corner even has a heater that can be turned on with a pull cord. They have an unusual system for paying, not sure if it's a local thing or a covid thing or a security thing - as soon as you order food or drink you pay straight away on card. So we ended up paying three times during the evening for each part that we ordered. No issue with this of course, but if you pay in cash then I imagine that this would be infuriating.

First pub after C-19 lockdown and felt so unwelcome. Entered the pub and asked for a table outdoors, we were put on a high wooden table which wasn’t suitable for my 5 and 7 year old as they couldn’t get up and down. Pub not overly busy but I totally understand everything takes a little more time. Spent 25 minutes waiting for drinks order to be taken, drinks arrived incorrect and were rectified straight away. Ordered 2 portions of chips - considering the cost they were small portions, asked for ketchup which never arrived even though the waitress walked past several times and mentioned she had forgotten it. When I went into pay I felt like the person serving felt she had no choice but to ask me about my day. I would definitely not return and wish I had tried another pub !

The quality of the food produce is matched by the chefs expertise. I come 3 weeks in a row and it just keeps getting better. We live locally and have tried every Sunday lunch going and this place beats them all hands down. Make sure you book ahead as it’s getting very popular.

We went to The Ship Inn for dinner. The drinks were fine (obviously) but when it came to the dinner it was awful. The kids got pasta and it was spaghetti with tomato purée! The most vile thing I’ve tasted and I’m not even being dramatic. My mum got bbq chicken pizza and the lumps of chicken were so large that the pizza dropped so much when you tried to pick it up. Also, the base was thick Pasata and the cheese layer was way too thick. The chicken resembled like something out of a can/tin. The staff were moody and didn’t seem like they wanted to be there. The atmosphere was not inviting at all. Overall upsetting and unpleasant experience. Will not return.

After seeing excellent reviews on trip advisor we decided to dine here for lunch. We were told they were short staffed and there may be a 15 minute wait but this was fine by us. After being seated our order was taken, 4 times we had to repeat the order, 1 pint of coke, 2 pints of lager and 1 pint of lager and blackcurrant. Not too difficult but somehow lime came in to the equation and only 3 drinks. I also mentioned 2 for 1 discount through my dine app as soon as we ordered just to make them aware. The 4 cod chips and peas arrived which was a lovely meal. We all really enjoyed it. We asked somebody else for the bill and again mentioned the 2 for 1 dine app discount only to be told we nor anybody else in Polperro accept this, I said we mentioned it to the person who took the order but this didn't change anything. As you can see from the photo this establishment is clearly listed in the scheme. While we were there another table was complaining of being overcharged the night before. Such a shame as this is a nice well kept pub but shouldn't be included in the discount scheme if they are not prepared to fulfill it.

Rang and asked if needed to book for a table and was told it was first come first served arrived 30 minutes after call and told was fully booked at 5.30 when I asked how it could be when you cant book the lady I spoke to said they could sit in the table all night. They took our number but never called there is no way people who had children sat at there tables until they stopped serving food at 9.45 . I know things are difficult at the moment but not a good example and would not recommend

Warm welcome from bar staff as we entered, efficient service and clean areas all throughout the pub including the toilets. As for the food…. best cheesy garlic bread I’ve ever had followed by amazing fish and chips ! Food was tasty, hot, fresh, good portion size for the money and would totally recommend. Will definitely come back again on our next visit.

Walked in and found a bar full of locals drinking. I saw this as a real positive, thinking it must make the pub good, from my younger experiences of working in various different pubs in different locations. Sat down, and we ordered both starters and mains at the bar. Couldn’t fault the bar staff - friendly and great. Food, however, was very much less than ideal. I would like to describe it as “cheap and cheerful”, but it was both expensive and bland / stale. Left very disappointed. We didn’t see the point in complaining as it seems they are taking advantage of tourist trade (which we were part of). Would not recommend. The other pubs in Polperro offer a better experience in our experience and opinion.

My family had a lovely visit to Polperro. Made even better by the attentive & friendly staff and amazing food at the Ship Inn. Very welcoming staff and locals, who we had fun chatting and hearing locals stories. We felt we were home from home. However the best was yet to come. We decided to eat and we're so happy we did. I had an amazing steak and ale pie and my wife the very tasty Barnsley chop off the chefs recommendations. We really couldn't fault any of it. Will definitely be back on our next visit. Nice to be able to speak to the chef, but who like me was from up North. Who knew our local pub back in Kent. Small world. Highly recommend this place. 5 stars all the way

Family had the beef ribs - not seasoned and quite tasteless. I ordered " the special" Hunters chicken Burger - it was terrible. I was expecting a chicken breast - very disappointed to see possibly thigh meat?, which was extremely chewy & grissly , also slice of bacon that was so thick it didn't appear to be cooked properly. I had also asked for the barbecue sauce to be separate from the dish and it came with the sauce on. All in all very disappointed.
