We booked here to have our last meal out on the Friday before we went home. The restaurant was full and advance booking in high season is essential as walk ins were turned away. For starters we had the bread, oils with hummus to share. We all ordered steak and chips for mains all cooked to our preferences and I have to say they tasted sensational. The service throughout was unrushed and attentive with nothing too much trouble. We loved it and would highly recommend.

Lovely little restaurant, had somehow missed it on previous holidays, as it’s tucked away in Fore St. Very high standard of food. We had the hake and the chicken supreme - something I would not normally have chosen - but the smaller menu worked well in pushing me to choose something different. Staff are very nice. Prices are higher than we would normally spend, which meant we were limited to just the main meal and a drink, but as a treat on holiday, it was worth it. Staff do advise that there will be a wait for food if you don’t order a starter, as it’s cooked to order, which after telling us a few times, felt a little pushy as we kept insisting that we understand and don’t mind. Perhaps worth baring in mind that not everyone can afford 2 or 3 courses when holidays themselves are so expensive and just politely inform diners the once.

Were it not for the sound of music coming up from the stairs it would be quite easy to miss the entrance to St Ives Cellar Bistro - which would be a shame. Chandeliers in the hallway leading to the stairs down into the restaraunt create an air of opulence and sophistication that's enforced when greeted at the entrance to the large dining room. Although below street level natural light is provided by a window at one end of the long room as the old venue is built on a steep incline overlooking the harbour. The polished boarded floor is furnished with polished wooden tables spaced to create a calm and uncluttered feel to the dining area. We chose the grilled goats cheese to start, the herb encrusted hake for our main and the chocolate brownie for desert. We have dined at over a dozen restaraunts in St Ives and the food in the Cellar Bistro stands head and shoulders above the rest. The herb encrusted hake was amazing, perfectly seasoned and exploding with flavour. Every dish was beautifully presented. The chocolate brownie with salted caramel was breathtakingly fabulous! All the staff worked tirelessly as a team and still made time to engage in conversation at the tables when appropriate. Our whole evening was a superb, sophisticated yet friendly and down to earth experience and a culinary delight of the highest order. Simply fabulous!

A very unassuming and bland looking narrow corridor leads you down to roomfuls of delight! The ambience in The Cellar is so much better than you imagine from the street and the food quite simply, was superb! Indeed the Herb & Parmesan crusted hake, with pea & mint puree, sided with Garlic & herb roasted new potatoes was the best restaurant meal I’ve had in a very long time. I gather it was the chefs signature dish and it really showed. It was one of those meals where you were left craving for more, it was so delicious. The staff were attentive and welcoming and our waitress Laura from South Africa couldn’t have been more helpful even if she did accidentally walk off with our bottle of wine (which we all had a good laugh about ) This was one of the restaurants my fussy veggie partner was most worried about but it turned out to be one of the two most enjoyable dining experiences of our stay! Good selection of wines and cocktails without the extortionate prices being demanded in many other St Ives eateries this year. Top marks to the crew of The Cellar Bistro for ‘everything’

Oh how wrong were we about this place. My partner had calamari which was quite literally a lightly battered unseasoned rubbery mess, we both had The Hake. The star of the dish being Hake was over cooked, I pointed this out to the waitress who decided to poke and prod my own food in front of me with her blatant 40+ years of experience this is the last thing I expected, how outrageously rude, telling me that’s how it’s always cooked “flakey”. Nice dry fish food flakes rather than the succulent piece of fish it is meant to be. I’ve been in the industry for 10+ years I would never speak to or poke/prod someone’s food in front of them as I respect customers and treat them as the rightful human beings that they are.

Booked a table in the evening as a thank you meal for the couple I had been on holiday with. Just wow! The restaurant is very cosy and atmospheric, The servers (including the owner and wife of the chef) were very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Plenty of options. We went for a mixture of the three course menu and the evening menu. Best garlic bread I've ever had and the Goats Cheese starter was beautiful. Hake and Chicken Supreme for mains followed by the chocolate brownie, sticky toffee pudding and lemon posset. All of our plates were so clean that they didn't need washing up. Would 100% recommend for a romantic or social occasion. Tucked away from the high street. Great find and a tardis on the inside.

I had an absolutely delicious dinner at Cellar Bistro this week! Travelling solo as a female, and eating out solo, can sometimes be a little unnerving but the lovely lady serving me made me feel very welcome, and I loved the relaxed atmosphere. Best meal I had in St Ives. Highly recommend. Wine was delicious too!

Absolutely fantastic food and service! I had hake and my mum had the chicken. I’ve dined in some 5* restaurants around the world but never tasted anything like this. We had messed up our booking and accidentally selected the wrong date on the online booking system, although they were fully booked for the whole evening they had no hesitation in fitting us in! We have booked to go again before we go home

While on holiday at St Ives me and my wife had booked a meal at Cellar Bistro as we had an excellent meal there some years back on our last visit to St Ives. As previously it didn’t disappoint, we started with some bread which was lovely, then I had the Sirloin Steak which came with chunky chips and a lovely Parmesan salad. We had a few months back eaten at a Hawksmoor in London which was the best Steak I’d had but Cellar Bistro was every bit as good. My wife had the Roasted Chicken Supreme dish which she said was lovely then we both had Sticky Toffee Pudding for dessert which again was lovely. Great drink options to and will definitely return on a future holiday at St Ives

We’ve eaten here as a family and also with our extended family a number of times and it’s always a pleasure. This time our original booking for 5 ended up as a birthday meal for 11, we emailed in advance and asked if they could squeeze the extras in and somehow they managed, and in the peak of the summer holidays too. The warmth of the welcome is really important to us and the staff here are friendly and welcoming , there is always a great atmosphere, delicious food and they are really accommodating if you need to tweak things due to intolerances/preferences. Highlights are the hake and the steak! House cocktails and great puddings too. Book early and enjoy!

Incredibly popular place to eat make sure you book as soon as tables are released. Put it this way people turn up hoping other people have had to cancel put it that way. Great service, we were put in a quiet corner near the window which was perfect. We had Garlic & herb ciabatta to start a little too much butter but my husband loved this lol. For mains I had Seared sea bass fillets, garlic & herb roasted potatoes, Romesco sauce which was stunning so tasty and portion size just right, the fish was fresh and you can tell you are dining by the coast. My husband had 8oz griddled sirloin steak, garlic butter, homemade chips, peas with sauteed garlic & pancetta. He never has steak anywhere we dine as it is always lacking flavour and becomes a bore to eat. This steak however was the best he has ever tasted. Great buzzy atmosphere and music who needs Spain/Italy when we have restaurants like this? Would recommend and will be back. I love the fact its a family business and you can see how much they care and attention to detail.

We visit Cellar Bistro as often as we can. Didn’t really want to write this as would like to keep it as our secret place but Cellar Bistro & the staff deserve the acknowledgment. My husband & I ate there on Friday night. I had the goats cheese & husband had mackerel pate for starters, both were perfect and just big enough so as not to fill you up before the main meal. We both had the roast chicken supreme special with homemade chips, salad & allioli, wow, what a meal, the chicken was so tender & white yum yum. I finished with lemon posset & husband had a coffee, both came with homemade biscuits. All this was with a lovely bottle of Spanish Sauvignon and served by professional friendly staff who couldn’t do enough for you. Thank you Cellar Bistro & your wonderful staff for a lovely evening out, you all throughly deserve your top 3 spot on trip advisor, I’m sure it won’t be long before you hit No 1. Hopefully see you all soon.

Fab meal, lovely ambience but seriously upselling tainted the whole meal. We didn’t want a starter but told that the kitchen always likes you to have a starter due to the wait for the main. Made us feel so embarrassed that we ordered and near on £9 for a 250ml glass of Sauvignon blanc it detracted from a 5 star review.

We took a chance and visited as soon as the restaurant opened even though we hadn’t booked. Luckily they had a table for us, but I would definitely recommend booking. I had the two course early bird of smoked mackerel pate and supreme of chicken with Dijon and cream sauce. Standard of food and service was superb. Only criticism is lack of veg which appears to have been a side order. I would expect it included in an early eater special. My husband is one of the fussiest diners ever but they couldn’t help enough to ensure he got a plain sirloin cooked just with chips and peas. It’s not our first visit and won’t be our last. Thank you for a lovely evening. The restaurant was full when we left and there were lots of diners with lots of questions and demands, everyone greeted politely and with a smile. It’s a gem of a place in a busy town that has stayed true to its roots rather than adapting to a serve it quick table turning restaurant to maximise income. Well done we will be back
