But Taylor's has gone over the top with temperature checks on arrival, horrible transparent screens between tables and glum looking and inaudible wait staff behind visors. We were on the point of leaving before ordering but the owner did agree to move the screen from our table so we felt less claustrophobic. The shine was definitely taken off the evening which was a pity because the food was very tasty, well-cooked and nicely presented. We've eaten out loads since lockdown ended and in general restaurants have managed to get back to near normal with little fuss. Not so here. Highly recommended for the risk averse, perhaps leave it a while if you like the old normal.

Enjoyed a couple of nights in Dartmouth before lockdown number 2. We have always liked Taylors and with the Royal Castle being closed for a refurb booked as soon as our plans were finalised. As ever the restaurant was beautiful and welcoming with plenty of non intrusive social distancing and hand care very subtly provided. Friendly helpful staff waited on us and our meals were both delicious and beautifully presented with a good and varied wine list. We were a little saddened to hear, whilst waiting between courses.. a couple being asked to hurry up and order by the proprietor. At the prices of this restaurant, time should certainly not be an issue and diners should not be made to feel embarrassed on a night out. Glad it wasn't me...We would have walked out....However as I said other than this little incident ..everything else was spot on. We wish them well once this current lock down is lifted.

Thank you for your kind comments regarding your dining experience at Taylor's last month. Your comment however about myself, the proprietor, I think was a little unfair. In the current situation, where the restaurant is forced to close at 10pm to adhere to the Government's curfew, we are finding ourselves in a difficult situation when diners turn up late for their bookings. Unfortunately, this seems to happen a lot and whilst I can appreciate that things happen and timings cannot always be strictly adhered to, it does put pressure on both the waiting and kitchen staff. We do meticulously time the arrival of each table to ensure that social distancing measures can be adhered to and that everyone has sufficient time to complete their meals without feeling rushed. If a table is late however, it means that later bookings that will have arrived at their allotted time may then not have sufficient time to enjoy their meals. Whilst I absolutely hate having to hurry people along, it sometimes is now necessary. I'm sure that you can appreciate this and if you were a later booking having turned up on time you would not be pleased if you were unable to enjoy a dessert or coffee due to the inconsideration of other people. Hopefully when and if you next return to Taylor's the current crisis will be over and we will not have such constraints forced upon us!

On holiday in Dartmouth after months of enforced eating at home, a meal at Taylor's was a must! This was our first experience at the venue & it was first rate from start to finish! A friendly, professional welcome, with excellent Covid precautions in place, meant we were led to our table in the centre of the small dining room, & seated immediately on arrival. Tables were separated with clear tall screens, with hand sanitizer on the table too. We were given the menu & wine list , which were ours to keep for the evening & our drinks order taken. The menu was a delicious selection of local produce which made deciding what to chose a dilemma but eventually we settled on tian of crab & prawns, for 2 of us plus salmon teriyaki for starters. Our mains were 2 monkfish, summer vegetables & saffron consommé & 1 lamb noisettes. Service and food were a total delight. The service was attentive without being obtrusive. The flavours of the food were excellently balanced, with thought behind the combinations of ingredients to give the ultimate in taste & texture. Unfortunately I couldn't manage a dessert, but my two companions both enjoyed portions of Lord Randall's pudding. We finished with coffee accompanied by petit fours. The bill for 3, with 2 bottles of Cote de Gascoigne Sauvignon blanc at £28 each, was £250 which included a 10% tip. Well worth it after months of being in a dining desert!!!

Due to the current circumstances we decided to go to beautiful Dartmouth having been unable to go further afield. The location is one of our favourites with a good selection of eateries for every pocket. As it had been a few years since our last stay we decided to book a table at Taylor’s hoping that our previous experience had been an aberration. Sadly it was not to be the case. The food is greatly overpriced and clearly beyond the skill of the somewhat limited chef. This is what I would describe as lazy cooking with a menu designed for the ease of the chef rather than the pleasure of the customer. Dishes are put together without thought of the sensory delights which are produced by the consumption of a well designed menu. Food was over or under seasoned, unbalanced and in one instance undercooked. The waiting staff first seem to be competent but pointedly did not request or acknowledge the disappointment of the customer. Having spent several hundred pounds at other establishments in the town and coming away inspired and satisfied my preference in the future would be a pasty by the river rather than give my business to proprietors who so clearly do not deserve my business.

Just had a delicious meal of confit duck followed by a chocolate orange pot from the fixed price menu. Good service and a comfortable restaurant overlooking Dartmouth harbour. Will definitely return when next in the area.

I had a delicious meal at Taylor's on a Friday evening during a September long weekend break. The food was wonderful: I chose carrot & fennel soup to start, which was served with lovely brown bread, and a sea bass main course. The accompanying wine (sauvignon blanc) was also lovely. The restaurant was busy however screens were affixed to each table when I visited. In addition, diners' temperatures were checked on arrival at the restaurant. The dessert - poached pears with ice cream - wasn't as good as the other two courses and I could just as happily have gone without (not to say it wasn't tasty). The ice cream tasted very sweet with a slightly unusual consistency. The starter and main course were fantastic though. While the restaurant is relatively pricey it is definitely worth a visit.

Having booked our table nearly three months ago it was disappointing to be given a table as far away from the window as possible and next to the bar and opposite the toilets. While the food was acceptable it lacked innovation and flair. The green vegetables which were unseasoned and appeared microwaved were expensive at just under £5 a portion. Dauphinoise potatoes featured on nearly all the main dishes and rather bizarrely many dishes were accompanied by a single cherry tomato. Service was generally impersonal and the waiter barely made eye contact or spoke. I knocked my glass of wine over at one point and despite staff being close by no one offered any assistance. We felt the food was overpriced and underwhelming and I am afraid we will not return.

We started off with 3 plates of scallops for 4 people as my son decided not to order starters. They were really delicious, perfectly cooked and flavoured, so we asked for another plate of scallops. Although the second set had the same wonderful flavour, the centre of the scallop was a bit cold. The Seabass, for the main, was delicious. Really delicate flavours and beautifully cooked. Much better than anything I have had in London recently. The medallions of beef were really tasty when accompanied by the sauce, and the chicken was good. The desserts were fine, but a bit underwhelming. All in all the best meal of our holiday. Recommended.

Went to Taylor’s with my family to celebrate my 50th birthday. Have to say the whole experience was very slick and enjoyable from start to finish. Turning up to the restaurant we had to sanitise our hands on entrance and have our temperature taken, before being shown to our table overlooking the River. Each table was separated by discreet screens giving protection from other diners whilst still giving the feeling of openness throughout the restaurant. To me food is all about flavours these came in abundance along with great presentation and generous portions, everyone enjoyed their meal( including fussy teenagers and elderly mother) Have to say the service was very attentive without being intrusive. With the COVID measures in place we felt safe and would highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion.

We’ve been to Taylor’s quite a few times over the years and always enjoyed the atmosphere and food (plus the gorgeous view). Sadly they have hiked the prices hugely since before Lockdown and their offering is just not quite in the same league. It really is very very expensive for what it is and, without any kind of amuse bouche or little extras or finesse in the dishes, and polite but perfunctory service with no real warmth or engagement, they are clearly just trading on the pretty view over the boatfloat. Spend the same money in The Seahorse or at Andrias and the difference in quality is all too plain to see. What a shame.

So we ate here a few times on our recent weeks holiday in Dartmouth. We pre-booked having not been before but read reviews here. And we were certainly glad we gave it a go. Firstly, great Covid efforts .... temperatures taken, contact details, all staff in either visors or masks and plastic screens to protect diners. All this, however, does not distract from the overly indulgent feel of the restaurant. We found all the staff to be extremely welcoming, pleasant and cheerful (infact within 5minutes of being seated we managed to squeeze ourselves into a reservation for a few nights time due to a cancellation we felt so at home!). And so to the food .... well, what can I say. Both my husband, my teenager and my 10yr old absolutely loved both our meals. Wine was just as good and all I can say is the lobster thermidor is slightly legendery in our house now. Thankyou for adding to an alresady wonderful holiday. We will be back!

Our favourite meal in South Hams....temperature check on arrival and impressive measures re social distancing, this does not distract from the enjoyment of eating in this lovely restaurant. The owner was so helpful. Lobster was 10/10. All four meals very well cooked. Would highly recommend

We have been visiting Taylor's for years and always make a point of eating there on our visits to Dartmouth. We visited on 1st August for dinner to celebrate a significant birthday for my husband. We were very impressed with the COVID preparations organised by Pauline and we felt very safe while we were there. As always, the food was delicious and the service excellent. We had been looking forward to the birthday celebration since lockdown and were delighted to spend it at such a lovely restaurant filled with special memories. Thank you so much to Pauline, Peter and the staff for the lovely welcome, great service and wonderful food. We look forward to coming back to see you again on our next visit to Dartmouth.

Excellent and delicious food, fish locally sourced. Pauline and her team were extremely professional and friendly. Lobster 🦞 and prawns 🦐 were absolutely amazing, it was their special on Saturday. All three courses were delicious and well enjoyed. The choice of food would accommodate everyone’s taste buds. Their wine menu offered an excellent Chablis. We were recommended to visit Taylor’s by Neil, who runs The Dartmouth Boutique B&B, who told me Taylor’s was one of their favourite restaurants. We would second that. We would also return to Neil’s B&B. Pauline, Chefs and Team thank you for making our evening memorable as well as serving delicious food. You must book the restaurant in advance, otherwise you will be disappointed as there were a number of walk-ins who were unfortunately disappointed as the restaurant was fully booked.

Starters were quite acceptable, main course of Dover sole scallops and prawns was a disaster fish covered in flour and overcooked tough and tasteless. Ice cream dessert okay. Mentioned my views to the waitress, manager came over and argued in front of the whole restaurant which ruined the whole day. Thankyou!!!!
