It was the day of the big fire in Exeter, when the Royal Clarence Hotel burned down. I'd invited my sister out for a meal and it was a choice between this and the Cote Brasserie. If I'd chosen the latter, we wouldn't have eaten, as it's only a few doors down from the fire! However, "it's an ill wind..."... More

To begin with, I was sceptical. Firstly the restaurant is tiny and so getting a booking at busy times is always difficult. However once sat down, in a nice cosy restaurant, we had to wait a good 15 minutes before we even got a drink. We decided to order food with the drink due to the poor service, however after... More

I was so close to walking out before our order had been taken as we'd been seated but no one had returned to even take a drink order 25 minutes later. To add to that, a group who had been seated after us had their order taken whilst we sat waiting. We were on a table in the centre of... More

I visited the conservatory on Tuesday lunchtime with my parents and we opted for the set menu. I had to be out within an hour to get to work and after previously working in a fine dining restaurant myself, I know how annoying it is when a customer is in a rush and needs their food promptly - as nothing... Recommended by a solider selling poppies in the street ! Very good, friendly, and quality food. Enjoyed our evening. Somewhat special as the restaurant must hold 40 persons max. Will revisit.

We really enjoyed our evening the food was great, venison was excellent! Braised beef a must. Waiting staff were lovely and it's our third time there. Menu is a little different however you won't be disappointed in any of the food.

Went here as party of six and everyone enjoyed their meals, including a very good beetroot risotto starter, hake, plaice, and chicken dishes from the Early Bird menu. Desserts were also good, and portions generous throughout. Reasonable choice of wines. Highly recommend eating here even if location is not the most unprepossessing. this is an older property and layout is... More

An excellent Saturday evening dinner with our son and his wife. Very convenient access from Mary Arches car park, or the loading bay outside available for parking after 7.0pm, A staircase from the street takes you up to the first floor where an intimate dining room awaits. Very pleasant staff greet you and show you to your table, which had... More

We went to the Conservatory for my partners birthday meal. The staff were very friendly on arrival and that theme continued during the evening. We were shown to our table in the top corner of the restaurant which looked very nice and homely. My only very minor complaint was that the seats were very uncomfortable. But that's not exactly a... Visited for our 25th Wedding Anniversary dinner after two previous lunch visits. Staff friendly and welcoming, but sadly this was not matched by the quality of the food. Fillet steak overcooked as was the duck breast and the dauphinoise potatoes were inedible. We declined to order desert and left finding another restaurant to finish our celebrations. Not sure if I... For a taste of the Mediterranean without leaving the West Country look no further than Exeter’s The Conservatory. With huge windows obscured by white blinds, tall exotic plants and Swedish-meets-French countryside painted furniture you almost feel it would be a shame to call in after sunset. But come in for dinner and you’ll find yourself in an intimate and romantic setting perfect for that relaxed dinner to help you forget about bills, work and worries. Sail away on a culinary cruise through Europe as the menu takes you from Britain via France and in to Italy and beyond with plenty of local ingredients to keep the flavours fresh and delicious.
