About
Welcome to Al-Farid Mezze Bar & Restaurant. Umar ibn ‘Al-Farid’ was esteemed mystic poet of the Arabs. The owner and head chef have created a thoughtful menu that delights the taste buds. A firm favourite is the mezze; an array of small succulent dishes. The mezze comprises of both cold and hot dishes, offering a wealth of colour, flavour, texture and aroma. An attribute of Moroccan food is the fact that is healthy as well as tasty and filling. A choice of traditional Moroccan desserts complement the meal, expect Baklava; a sweet pastry, and Mhallableyh; rice pudding with rose water. We also have the national drink of Morocco, Arak, which has an aniseed base, and a variety of cocktails to enjoy

I have wanted to go here for some years and never seemed to get around to it until Sunday 14th April 2024 where we had booked a table for lunch at 1pm. We were greeted straight away by the manager (Spencer) who was extremely friendly,...down to earth and showed a real passion for the business. We were seated at a table for two in the window upstairs overlooking cathedral green, perfect for people watching while enjoying a lazily long Sunday lunch with a difference. The decor inside is simply stunning, decorated in the most beautiful jewelled colours with glass lamps, beautifully carved tables, voile netting adorning the ceilings, sparkles and trinkets everywhere you look. It was like being transported to a beautiful Riad in Morocco or immersed in the pages of Arabian Nights. There is a conservatory area upstairs to the rear, authentically reproducing the many shisha bars found in Morocco. We ordered the Mixed Shish Platter for two at £42.00, with rice, bread and salad. This consisted of; Grilled skewers of marinated chicken breast, seasoned ground minced lamb kebab, tender lamb fillet and spicy Moroccan sausage. Served with spicy potatoes and grilled tomatoes layered between two portions of lavash (flat bread), with a side of rice and root vegetables. The food came quickly, was cooked to perfection and the flavours were just amazing. This is by far one of, if not the best, restaurants I have visited in Exeter, the food service and atmosphere was beyond what I’d expected, so much so, I went and bought a traditional tagine yesterday to try and have a go at creating some similar dishes. We will definitely be returning very soon. Highly recommended if you like authentic Moroccan and Lebanese Mezze.More

This was my second time having the unlimited meze and it was incredible once again. Catered for vegans and gluten-free diets with no problems and everyone was full. Maddie was a great waitress - knew what she was talking about and incredibly helpful! If you...can highly recommend getting 6+ people together for the unlimited - something for everyone and loads left over.More

Went on a Wednesday night, surprisingly busy. My partner and I had a selection for 2. The food came out quickly and tasted fabulous. The meats were perfectly seasoned and tender. Had a bottle of house wine which was a lovely Shiraz. The service was...first class but not too in your face, just right for a romantic meal. We will definitely be back and are recommending this lovely restaurant to our friends.More

A group of 12 went to Al Farid - everyone had a mixture of the very varied menu. The service (especially Rob who was fabulous on front of house ) was great , especially with 12 people , like herding cats . We all had...a great time there and the building/atmosphere/interior decor was great. Definitely will be back sometime soonMore

Fantastic choice for gluten free and vegetarian (together). The building is lovely and feels very homely, really really tasty food. Our server Jacob was very friendly and helpful when advising us with what to have and how many dishes to have. We had 9 meze...dishes between three of us, and came away feeling extremely full! Thank you so much!More

Hi, I'm really sorry but I cannot give you a definitive answer to your question. The restaurant is on several floors via a narrow staircase so I don't think a pushchair would work except on the ground floor. I didn't see... More
