Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Reserved table not allocated so lucky we got somewhere to sit. Starters okay but mains very disappointing . Steak just about okay but almost raw chips not acceptable. £170 for a meal for two incredible. We ate there a few years ago and were so...looking forward to it which makes it all the more gutting. My first ever review so that shows how I feel.More

A party of us went for Sunday lunch for a Birthday celebration. We all pre ordered beforehand. I ordered the Dartmoor pork. On arriving at the restaurant the menu stated it was Cider braised pork belly. I confirmed with the waitress that i had ordered...Dartmoor pork as i didn't eat pork belly because of the fat. She confirmed it would be Dartmoor pork, my meal arrived a long with the others, and Pork belly was on the plate. I had to ask for it to be changed to the only other option Sirloin of beef. When the plated dinner arrived it looked plentiful and well presented. That's where the positives ended for the mail meal. Beef was inedible for me, i could not cut the beef, had to tear it apart ( another guest also had the same issues ) absolutely tasteless. The only other part of the meal with any flavour was the roasted parsnip. Needless to say i will not be retuning to the Rising sun anytime soon!! On a positive note, the sticky toffee pudding was deish!More

My partners starter of scallops was very small for the price of 13.50 and his main course was advertised as “ whole plaice” but when it arrived, the fish was so small it resembled a dab !! This was not reflected in the price which...was 27.50. We shared a coconut rice pudding dessert, but the rice was undercooked. My food however was much better, the beetroot starter was delightful and battered fish nice & crispy. I must also mention the saving grace of the restaurant, which was CHELSEA our waitress, she was superb and handled the service and customers in a fantastic manner.More

Fantastically tasty food in the friendliest of settings. We booked last minute and we're given a warm welcome. The ox cheek croquettes and the belly pork were particular favourites. However all the dishes were of fantastic quality. This gem is to be recommended.

I would highly recommend this pub. We came here twice, once to drink (beer is Hall and Woodhouse -Tanglefoot) and once to eat. The staff are very attentive and friendly - even remembered our drinks round from the previous evening, nothing to do with the...amount of times we got a round! We ate roast beef which was delicious and plentiful. My husband had a bowl of mussels which was massive and also delicious. I hope to come back to this welcoming establishment one day.More

Front of house Mark and Chef outstanding. Partner had gin soaked trout and me scallops... Divine. Mains partner had Roasted Shellfish, he's still ploughing/enjoying as we speak, me Pheasant. I can honestly say this is the best meal we have ever had... we have been...all over the world, Les in his 80s, me nearly 70s. We have been knocked out by the standard and deliciousness. Lynmouth is basically closed in winter, but The Rising Sun restaurant was open. We ate in the pub part as it was quiet, but gradually filled up with locals and visitors. The barman was on his own and did a terrific job of taking the...food orders, serving food and serving behind the bar. I had the roast pheasant and my husband has the Appledore plaice, both were perfectly cooked. For dessert, my husband had a selection of sorbets and I had the newly added to the menu crême caramel and was so glad I did - highly recommended! It was a bit pricey compared to where we live, but we were very satisfied customers.More

Arrived early, the owner gave us a choice of 2 tables, he said a party of 12 due and thought might be too noisy for us, so had saved us another quiet table which we were pleased about. Staff were very attentive, helpful and friendly!...Had Sunday lunches, wow 7 types of veg, gravy tasty and meats melted in mouth. Desserts were all homemade one called Jaffa Cake was very popular. The building itself was interesting, beams and thatch. We will be back👍👍👍💖💖💖More

Met up with some local family yesterday evening and decided to order two of the Côte de boeuf from the specials board, one medium, one well done. All I can say is WOW, the chef and his team absolutely surpassed our expectations with the cooking...quality and taste. As a self proclaimed steak connoisseur I will highly recommend the dish and restaurant to all of my friends, family and the Tripadvisor communityMore

Characterful olde English pub, thatched roof, wood beams etc. Great views across the harbour. Dog friendly. The food was the highlight though, exceptional!

If you want brilliant service come to Rising Sun. You first go in as customers and leave as friends. The staff can’t do enough for you, make you feel welcome, accommodate the requests of a toddler and engage in conversation - they are genuine lovely...people. We had delicious Sunday Roasts, then went back everyday since! Ambience is very cosy and warm with good music in the background. Thanks for making our stay so memorable.More
