I visited here on my birthday this year as a starting point to our evening with friends. I thoroughly enjoyed the diverse range of customers, brilliant pricing and great staff. I believe JSV is not as known as it should be because it's tucked away...More

Having decided to have a pub crawl as part of a stag do, a few of us descended on the JSV for a good few wets before hitting the town. We found the barman quite rude giving the appearance that he'd sooner have an empty...More

I always enjoy going to the JSV. During the winter there is a fire, and usually once a week there is live music. They also do a pizza deal. It is a bit expensive for a student pub though.

I stayed at B&B around the corner and was looking for some fast evening meal and something to drink. The pizza was ok and the cider not one of the usual two brands and good to drink.

My wife and I only live round the corner, and this is our little venue if we fancy a bit of a night out at the last minute. Unpretentious, welcoming and relaxed. Drinks are well priced (especially on the Thursday house spirit and mixer deal),...More

Drop in there occasionaly on way back to station, not a food pub as stated, real ale is variable in quality. Usually lively and busy early and later evening, generally good atmosphere. Worth visiting if you like student frequented pubs, it's on the university site.
