Recommended to us by a local taxi driver this is a small restaurant just off Southside on the Barbican. Food is a mix of Indian and Nepalese and it is brilliant. We tried Nepalese curries washed down with Nepalese beer (Everest). Staff were friendly and...attentive. If you like spice in your food, try here. If you don’t, try here anyway.More

Set in an Elizabethan style building in the Barbican area - just off the Main Street the Himalayan Spice offers the perfect answer to a need of a good Indian dinner - great food, good beer and pleasant and efficient service.

We have been looking for a good curry in this neck of the wood for years! We are so glad we walked along the Hoe and stumbled upon this restaurant. Really lovely food which we really enjoyed. Informal but clean environment, no frills. We ordered...MoMo to start which was delicious! Loads of curries to choose from- we highly recommend the Nepalese specialities. Lovely authentic Nepalese draft beer too! Shame we were driving. Highly recommend this place for a good curry :)More

This place is amazing! We ate here while on holiday in Plymouth last year and loved it and decided to go again this year, we loved it so much we went twice! We ordered completely different dishes to what we normally would and loved it....The starters were the MoMo chicken and lamb Sekewa and the mains were fish madras and Himalayan chicken. The staff are very friendly, the house red wine was lovely and the restaurant is very well decorated with Nepalese artefacts. Right in the centre of the Barbican, it’s the perfect location. We will be back next year! XMore

A beautiful ancient building in the most picturesque part of Plymouth. Inside are several small dining areas with a cosy secluded atmosphere. The staff were all brilliant and very attentive. The food was amazing. Everything freshly cooked with their own unique recipes. Generous portions too....Absolutely the best Asian meal I have ever eaten, no exaggeration! For us it was a romantic occasion so I contacted the restaurant the day before and asked for a rose for our table. They brought us a big vase full of beautiful fresh roses and didn't even charge for it, absolutely exceptional! Shall definitely be going back soon!More

We went here over the bank holiday weekend Appalling service waited an hour for our table which was pre booked Then it took another half hour to get a drink They brought us poppadums then forgot to take our order After another 30 min took...our order It was very disappointing as the food when it did arrive was good As we were sat close to the door we could see the take away drivers picking up all the time, they obviously got priority Not the restaurant customers Staff just blamed the chefMore

Visited Himalayan Spice for the first time last night and will certainly be returning! We received a warm and polite welcome upon arrival and despite being a little early we were shown immediately to a lovely table for two. Atmosphere was lovely, with low lighting...(but not too dark!) quiet music in the background and no excessive hustle and bustle. All of the staff seemed calm and happy going about their jobs. After being seated we were shown a drinks list, all very reasonable prices and most on offer by the glass than having to buy a full bottle. We opted for the house red which was delicious, full of rich berry flavours. My partner has some intolerances so asked about which dishes were dairy free and the staff quickly came back with the answers and no fuss whatsoever. Poppadoms were offered and at 70p each are good value. Be aware that there is also a charge for the pickles etc that go with said poppadoms. Food arrived and was delicious. Complex flavours that arrived on the palate in layers providing a wonderful taste experience. Everything was cooked to perfection and portion sizes were generous. Meal for 2 with wine came to a shade under £40, I would happily have paid a bit more and reflected this in the tip (service charge isn't included but was well earned!) If you're after authentic Nepalese cuisine in Plymouth then this is the place to visit!More

Don't know if they have ramps but the steps from the cobbled street and the narrow old internal configuration make it unlikely that anyone in a wheel chair even with several muscular helpers would be able to use this... More
