The Artillery Tower is a very small restaurant ( seats no more than 20 ). Therefore feels very exclusive, I will start with a small downside - There is no parking outside, that said there is ample parking at Devils Point a 2 minute walk away. The restaurant is accessed by a set of 3 or 4 stairs.
There is a good choice on the menu, in our party of 5 we choose 4 different main courses, all of which were superb.
3 of the party had starters, and 2 of us had puddings. The Cherry Pie - which says it is a 20 minute wait is definitely worth the wait.
For a special occasion I would highly recommend visiting, for the prices I believe it is excellent value for money. ( Yes, of course you could go somewhere cheaper - but for food of this quality in a unique location, its great )

You get what you pay for in life and in this case it was a supurb meal fpor 6 of us celebtrating a birthday. The actual premises are great and unique. Service is first class. And then to the food, from the mushroom soup amuse bouche to starters which included the french onion & duck soup, scallops and mushroom tartlets through to the mains of bream, venison and steak were just excellent. Great ingredients cooked to perfection. Exceptional wine list and the Chilean Syrah is a real gem. Th ecouple who run this should be aplauded and also supported through the coming weeks with current issues where eberyone wants to stay at home. If you want a great culinary experience look no further

Despite trying times in the wake of Covid, our experience at the artillery tower was a welcome comfort.
A lovely atmosphere and admirable efficiency! We waited no longer than 10-15 minutes between courses, with an optional rest period inbetween if we so chose.
The staff were incredibly accommodating, service was exceptional.
Highly recommend for a special treat 😊
Will be booking again!!

The setting is absolutely unique, the welcome is warm and the food is outstanding. Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed, the warm freshly cooked bread that is served was possibly the best we have ever eaten. We had starters of crab and avocado and my partner had belly pork, both were delightful. The mains of fillet of beef and lamb were again delightful. We almost didn't have room for pudding but seeing what the others were being served couldn't not try that as well. WE opted for the chocolate torte and were very glad we did. The venue is very intimate and one that should not be missed if you have the chance to go please do-it's a real gem!

After travelling down to Plymouth for our son's passing out parade at HMS Raleigh we were lucky to have booked a table to celebrate at what we can only imagine is Plymouth's best restaurant. I'm amazed we were able to book a table only two weeks in advance - if this place was in Beverley you'd have to book months in advance for a Friday night. The building itself is amazing, it was a wild night outside with the waves crashing on the beach below but once inside it was cosy and welcoming. The menu suited us perfectly with dishes that included scallops and game all of which was perfectly cooked, tasted delicious, the pork, lamb and venison were all melt in the mouth and served on hot plates. The whole experience was very relaxed and enjoyable and the personalised dessert for our son was a lovely surprise. We've never been to Plymouth before but we just might have to plan another visit!

Tonight we ate at the Artillery Tower for the second time, and for the second time it did not disappoint. It was our 20th Wedding Anniversary and so we decided to splash out. I genuinely think this is the cosiest, most incredible restaurant in Plymouth.
The menu is relatively small, but every plate is cooked to absolute perfection. Let me take you through tonight’s wonderful culinary journey.
As we sat down there was a bowl of mixed nuts and seeds on our table, roasted in rosemary and garlic. After ordering, we were presented with an amuse bouche of leek and potato soup with truffle oil and the most divine bread I’ve ever tasted - I think the crust had some sort of salt and garlic addition to it.
Our starters were scallops with belly pork and apple sauce and pigeon with potato galette and shiitake mushrooms. Nothing could be faulted. The meat was flavourful and melt in the mouth, the scallops *just* cooked inside with a golden exterior. Both dishes were perfectly cooked and the classic flavours worked beautifully.
For the main course we chose peppered venison and fillet steak. The venison was served pink (cooked to customer preference), on a bed of braised red cabbage and spinach, with puréed artichoke, mashed potato and chives and lemon infused broccoli. The steak was served rare (cooked to customer preference) on a bed of carrots and spinach with a duxelle of mushroom, chive mash and lemon infused broccoli.
My husband and I always try and choose different menu options so we can taste each other’s and then decide whose is best. Well, we tasted each other’s and honestly couldn’t pick a favourite. Both starters and mains were utterly amazing. We were given steak knives for the beef and the venison, but I promise you a butter knife would have done the job! Melt in your mouth didn’t come close, and the flavours were intense, delicious and simply perfect.
Overall, a simply beautiful meal in a delightful seafront venue, hosted by a lovely couple with a clear passion for what they do.

I came here to celebrate my father in law's birthday with his wife and my husband.
The restaurant itself has a lovely cosy atmosphere with a fantastic view out of the sound towards Drake's Island.
On our arrival there were tasty nibbles and an amoush bouche.
The starters were amazing, the mains were delicious and the chocolate mousse cake was to die for. I was thoroughly stuffed by the end of my meal.
The host was friendly and the chef came out at the end of the meal to say a brief hello.
All in all, a thoroughly delightful evening and I shall be returning for another treat sometime soon!

Supper last night was great. The tower is an interesting place to eat, the team are perfectly attentive and the food was delicious.
My wife is a vegetarian so had her own options for the menu, specially prepared for her and my Scallops on Belly pork followed by Peppered venison were both cooked to perfection - melt in the mouth delicious.
The sweets were completely balanced sweet and sharp, a perfect complement to the meal.

It's rare to find a restaurant that really surprises and delivers at the same time. Artillery Tower is one such restaurant that will do both.
My partner booked a table for the two of us for my 50th birthday in December. Upon arriving at the restaurant we were greeted by Debbie. She took our coats and was delightfully friendly. It was four degrees outside however the atmosphere inside was warm and cosy largely thanks to a wood burning stove that Debbie kept well stocked for the length of our stay.
The menu is simple and all of the dishes sound incredible. For an entrée we both chose the scallops which were served on a layer of belly pork. It was delicious. For our mains my partner chose the Fillet of Turbot and I went with the eye fillet steak. I'm an Aussie that was raised on beef and I can honestly say that this was one of the best steaks I've ever eaten. Peter certainly knows how to cook a steak! The Turbot was also incredibly tasty too.
Despite having almost no room we both decided to share a piece of Chocolate Mousse Cake which Peter and Debbie kindly decorated with a candle and the works Happy Birthday written in chocolate sauce. The perfect way to end our evening at Artillery Tower.
This is definitely an experience and well worth every penny if you're someone that appreciates food with natural flavours and fine dining. If you're travelling through Devon and looking for something unique then this is THE PLACE to visit. I'd love to get back there again on a summer's evening. I can imagine the view is spectacular.
Thank you Debbie and Peter (and my partner Jacqui) for such a memorable 50th birthday dinner.

Had the most fantastic evening here last night. Every course was full of so much flavour and you could taste the quality of the ingredients. Each course was spaced out perfectly which allows you to sit and enjoy the full dining experience without feeling rushed. We arrived at 7.15 and left around 10.45 giving us a full evening out. A lovely character fulled small restaurant with great service. Every customer is spoken to by the chef at the end if their meal which i think gave a lovely touch. Will definitely be back again!

Had dinner here for our wedding anniversary. The meal was beautifully cooked with an appealing menu. We loved the location and the building- it was really special, with only a small number of covers. All courses were tasty and unpretentious, well presented and perfectly delivered- hot, good to look at and a great with taste. Thought the prices were fair considering the produce quality. Service was friendly and warm, and efficient without being obtrusive. Will be booking again!

We live just a 20-minute walk away; we love fine dining; yet, despite this restaurant having been open for decades, it had not previously crossed our radar.
We went on a Saturday evening; pretty much all of their reduced capacity was used - so I'd definitely recommend booking ahead.
This was the best evening out we have had since before Covid. Scrub that - this is in the top 3 meals out we have had in the last ten years!
It reminded us of the best french country restaurants: with the lady of the house in control in front, offering quiet excellent service, and the man creating magic in the kitchen...and who then comes out at the end of the evening to chat with each of the diners.
The food was sublime, from the amuse bouche to the coffee afterwards. We had the scallops and monkfish for starters; lamb (the shoulder of which was almost like pate, it was so smooth and rich) and duck for mains followed by the cherry & almond tart.
Accompanied by a bottle of Pinotage: nectar infused with blackcurrants and pepper.
This was an extremely special evening: we didn't have anything particular to celebrate, just wanted to try somewhere new. We left knowing we had experienced a real treat and certain we will go back for more.

Having booked 2 days in advance found the restaurant had been closed down for some time.I paid £40 deposit against a no show. Fantastic write up by someone for the cuisine when in fact the place had been shut. How weird was that.

Hello Clive,
Obviously you wrote this review before we spoke on Monday.
Im sorry you had a wasted journey to our restaurant. I did leave a voicemail message on Saturday morning.
Explaining that we took the decision to close after my wife (the only waitress)was felling unwell & tested positive for Covid 19.
I can't be blamed for you not listening to the message until Sunday. We had five other tables booked.
They weren't outside the restaurant waiting when you were there, because they listened to their voicemail .
When we spoke on Monday. You seemed to think the restaurant had closed down for months, because someone told you so. It hasn't
I think because the restaurant is not open lunch and closed is four evenings a week.
They wrongly assume it has closed down.
We only take deposits for parties over six

We had a lovely evening in this super restaurant, sitting at our table by an arched window looking out at the sea and Drakes Island.
The hosts are welcoming and friendly and the atmosphere relaxed and unhurried.
All the food was fabulous. We enjoyed crab, turbot and duck, the latter cooked just how I like it!
There is a set price for either 2 or 3 courses which looks expensive at first sight until you consider what is included. Other restaurants of this quality in Plymouth charge extra for vegetables and have surcharges for some dishes. Not here.
We will certainly go again.

Greeted at the door and welcomed in. Drinks ordered and out within a matter of minutes. Food ordered 10 minutes later and asked how long we would like to wait as we were drinking and laughing. 15 mins later the best scallops and belly pork were in front of me and I was drewling it looked amazing and tasted even better. All 6 of us commented how nice it was.
Main was served beef fillet, lamb rack, duck breast and absolutely cooked to perfection. Wine was at correct temperature and beer was cold local jail ale. Already looking to book for a couple of months. Definitely coming back
