Just picked up a supposed cod and chips from here and am positive that I have been given a cheaper white fish rather than cod. The taste is totally different and will not be returning.

tasty traditional fish & chips, reasonably priced, clean presentable staff & premises, a really nice place for an inexpensive meal.

I had been here last year and my food was fab. This week I ordered a portion of chips and a little curry sauce. The chips hardly covered the bottom of the plastic tray, and on inspection 1/3 of the potatoes were black and inedible. All seemed a bit luke-warm. The owner or server looked fed up. I was hungry... Been a few times when on holiday here, and never had a bad meal, well worth a visit! Plus there's a few tables inside if you want to sit down,

Was in Torquay for family things and paid another visit to Grandad Nic's for some fish and chips. Freshly cooked and short wait, just like the previous visit. Consistency and quality seem to be at the forefront. Will be visiting again on my next trip

We visited as a family of 5 at the end of our day trip to Torquay. We all ordered the Fish and Chips and chose to eat in the restaurant. The food was freshly cooked for us and we did not have to wait long at all for it. Cutlery and condiments were brought over to us at our table... More

It is great to find a chippy which cooks to order rather than having food which has been cooked and left waiting for a customer. The food is great but with the cook to order there are times where you will have to wait but at least it is always fresh.

Chippy looked nice from the outside. We ordered a garlic pizza and battered chips and were told it would only take 15 minutes to do.We had to wait 40 minutes other people came in and were served right away. When we got to the caravan which is only 10 minutes away the chips were hard, there were only about 10 chips with batter... This fish shop was on the same road as the appartment we were staying at whilst on holiday in Torquay. We fancied some local fish for tea so opted for the easy takeaway choice of fish and chips. I hadn't seen the sign outside when I walked up to the shop so was very surprised to see fish and chips... More

Grandad Nicols is now open and serving the residents and guest of torquay with freshly cooked " old fashioned fish and chips" the traditional way. We serve only the highest graded fish from the clean waters of iceland and local specials from brixham fish market, and home made specials like Haddock & Parsly fish cakes and our famous yorkshire fish cakes.

Due to a number of people thinking we have stale or old oil we have made the decision to change the type of oil we fry in we used to use beef dripping but we have had some comments saying that the oil was stale old etc. So we have now change to vegetable oil which is more commonly found in the fish and chip shops and most people are accustomed to
