Great food not cheap but worth every penny ( main, sweet & tea £16.40) had oat milk which pleased me. I booked a table for 4 as 1pm I thought it might be very busy but people who walked in were able to get a table. Lovely attentive staff highly recommended Mike Strong

Although we have visited this area previously we had never noticed this eatery before and having walked round the shops for over a couple of hours we were starving . It has a TARDIS like structure and was certainly a lot bigger than it appeared once you are inside , the staff member was extremely friendly and even though it was busy managed to find us a table . The menu was rather extensive so definitely something for everyone if you’re simply after a snack or something more substantial. We both opted for sandwiches, a cheese / tomato toastie and a mature cheese with chutney . Our drinks were brought out very swiftly and it’s nice to come across somewhere that serves a good tasty hot chocolate rather than the lukewarm warm muddy water type efforts I’ve had put in front of me in the past. You may ask what so special about a sandwich but like anything else if it’s not prepared properly you’ll know about it . The bread , cheeses and tomato were all of good quality and fresh which you could taste from the very first mouthful. These were both served with a decent side of crips and homemade coleslaw, again both full of flavour . I did happen to spy their Christmas Menu and it looked very tempting and was reasonably priced , sadly we won’t be in the area then . The venue was nicely decorated , welcoming and above very clean and tidy , the service complimented this perfectly . I am guessing this is independently owned which is part of its charm and hope this doesn’t change . Price wise given the level of service and the quality of the food I’d say it’s on the money ! We will no doubt be in that part of the world again at some point and would certainly have no hesitation in dining there again. The only regret we have is that we only had lunch here as we booked an evening meal elsewhere , that experience was memorable but sadly not in a good way.

This place was fantastic. We were spoilt for choice for our breakfast and when it came it was beautifully cooked, not greasy at all and really tasty. Service was good and some of the cakes looked delicious too. We’re in Dorset for a week, so are likely to return before we go home.

Visited here many times in the past but very disappointed with the food now. Had a Bacon sandwich which was expensive and consisted of thin normal sliced bread with very little bacon on and 4 pringles, not worth the cost! During our two weeks I had a Bacon sandwich every morning at various cafes and all were much better than here so we didn't go back. Shame as it was good but you cannot charge this much for such a little sandwich. In Bridport I had a massive sandwich with lots of Bacon and on thick premium bread for less money. We will not be returning.

Can't beat this lovely cafe for breakfast. Delicious food ,always hot, served by the friendliest staff with a lovely smile, makes a difference. Have eaten here regularly and always enjoyed the meals. Shouldn't really be telling people how good this is because it might become too popular, but it is really good. Well done Walnut Grove.

Looking for somewhere for lunch and spied this place just off the main pedestrianised shopping area. Shown to a table straight away by a friendly waitress. The menu was varied and the breakfast menu was available all day, much to my husband’s delight. He decided to have the ‘full English’ plus toast and I chose the eggs Benedict with smoked salmon. We both really enjoyed the meals and they were plentiful, mine especially with a generous amount of smoked salmon, delicious. Afternoon tea is also available with a variety of cakes on offer. A nice atmosphere and very efficient staff.

I like that you can select your own breakfast items but agree with a previous review, that the sausages spoilt it. Very cheap and fatty . Not a nice butchers sausage. Did make a complaint but did nothing about it and still charged for me same price. Not the best service 😕

Omg! This is a little gem. Staff were so friendly and helpful. My husband and I were passing through and stopped for lunch. The cauliflower cheese topped with bacon is delicious and the ham egg chips was great too - Thankyou

We stopped in Dorchester en route from a short break in Cornwall. We were determined to find a traditional English style cafe. In particular we were looking for independent business to support. We chose the cheese tart from the specials board because I fancied quiche, the meal came with salad and sweet potato fries. The cafe wasn't particularly when we arrived at 3pm. The tart can only be described as 'past its best' it appeared to have been reheated through a number of times and to be honest should not have been served. I managed to cut through the base of my portion but my wife didn't manage to do so as hers was browner and more shrivelled, she eventually gave up. When we'd both put our cutlery down and finished the male waiter asked if our meal had been OK. We politely told him how disappointed we'd been with the tart. He apologised and said he'd pass our comments onto the kitchen staff. We then went to the counter to pay. The assistant asked if everything had been OK so I repeated the comments I'd told the waiter. She also apologised and said she mention it to the manager. I believe this establishment let itself down by serving food that should have been discarded. This is such a shame as it was our first visit to this lovely town. Because of the obvious lack of attentiveness and greed at serving food which didn't reach the minimum quality I'd expect I would not recommend this cafe.

Visited today for lunch. The cafe was not too busy, but we waited 10 minutes before someone came to take our order. We noticed that there were 3 dirty tables around us that were left for about 10 minutes until a customer came in who wanted a table. A waitress in a visor came over, removed 2 dirty glasses from the table & wiped it over with her hands to flick the crumbs on the floor. She then sat the customers down. When I looked at the table we were sat on I found a ring from the previous persons drink & some salt spilt on the table hidden behind the menu holder so clearly our table had not been wiped properly either. Under normal circumstances this would have put me off, but in Covid times I was shocked to see such basic cleanliness being ignored. It made us question the cleanliness and routines of the whole cafe. Our food arrived in a timely fashion, but our drinks - a tea & a squash - were brought to us by the same waitress after we had finished eating our food. At this point, having seen her lack of cleanliness already demonstrated, we were put off drinking them & left. I work in hospitality so understand the pressures involved in the job, but there was no excuse for this complete disregard of cleaning protocols & terribly slow service. The rest of the staff were good & the food was ok, but our whole experience was spoilt by the carelessness of 1 person.

Called in for lunch and ordered a sandwich with fries. My partner ordered ham, egg and chips. The grated cheese sandwich was presented in four triangle shaped pieces that were so small that it was impossible to eat without all the filling falling out. The waitress forgot to order the chips and they arrived after I’d finished the sandwich. My partners ham had an unacceptable amount of fat on it which she had to cut off. Not impressed and wouldn’t recommend.

Home visiting family for the weekend and couldn’t not stop here. Lovely cute cafe for brunch. I had the cheese topped crumpets with egg and tomatoes and my mum had the bubble and squeak special. Fast and friendly service. Reasonably priced.

Wonderful food served by friendly staff in very pristine location. We had three roast lunches, served with perfectly cooked vegetables accompanied by all the trimmings. Our other meal was a tasty cauliflower cheese, sprinkled with bacon. Throughout the meal we were asked if everything was ok, which indeed it was. Very reasonably priced; we cannot wait to return.

Been here a few times and always enjoyed the food. Portion sizes are generous and food is served pretty quickly. In addition to the printed menu there is a specials board. Last visit the leek, blue vinney and walnut tart was served with a mountain of fries which were lovely and crisp, and a salad. There is also a help yourself salad bar. You never feel rushed here.
