We visited The Green 6th October on spec. What a pleasant surprise! Not an extensive menu, but catering for most tastes. The combinations of ingredients were different and imaginative, resulting in plates that were appealing, and flavours that were outstanding! We enjoyed our experience so much that we read a little about the Owner/Chef, and booked immediately for the next night, which resulted in a similar very exceptional experience. We have been lucky enough to have eaten in some very fine restaurants in and around Berkshire, but we would strongly recommend The Green for producing what in our opinion is superior food in terms of flavour combinations, presentation and value for money. We wish Sacha and his team every success and will certainly be dining in his restaurant again when we are next in the vicinity. Mark & Carrie.

Despite living nearby we had considered this to be a bit up-market for our tastes, but with the fixed price menu at £27 for 3 courses it turned out to be quite reasonable, nor are the drinks too pricy. Most things can be had on this menu, with supplements for the more expensive dishes. Portions were only adequate, but the very hungry can order a side dish. Some interesting complementary nibbles to start. The service was both witty, friendly and prompt. My sea bass and my partner's chicken were both delicious, and of the starters, the haddock gravlax outstanding; my dessert of passion fruit creme brulee excellent. My only grumble was that spinach was substituted for one of the advertised constituents of each main dish, and my wife had to give hers to me - if she had known she could have asked for a different substitution. My biceps had considerably swollen by the time we left!

We were here in December 2019 - what a long time ago that seems. Then, we were staying self catering whilst looking for a house to buy. Well, we bought it and returned to The Green as first venue to eat out in 7 months. We were not disappointed and realise that this form of service industry has been possibly more disturbed than many others but with ingenious adaptation, they accommodate as many guests for dinner as before lockdown by opening up the first floor for dining as well as the ground floor. As before, the staff were calmly delightful, but masked, all regulations were politely observed by all, the menu Again proved difficult With so many choices to make from the comprehensive and mouth watering creations. I wanted to have a number of different dishes from each course, but £27 per head would not permit this flexibility. So we shall have to come again, soon! Thank you all for a lovely evening.

We visited for lunch one Saturday as a bit of a treat and we weren’t disappointed. The dining room is tastefully decorated with original artwork on the walls, an eclectic mixture of antique wooden furniture and good linen napkins (always a win). Tables were distanced but there were enough people for a good atmosphere and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Lunch is a fixed price of £23 for three courses, with supplements on a few items, which we thought was excellent value. We both had Crab Creme Brûlée to start which I loved but Mr G found a little bland, it came with a very nicely dressed salad, but could possibly benefit from another flavour to cut through the creaminess, just differing taste preferences I think. Next I had Mussels with bacon and chilli which were very good indeed, big fat mussels and really interesting flavours. Mr G had the Skate Wing which was absolutely delicious and easily the star of the show, a really good piece of fish and well cooked. We finished with Passionfruit Creme Brûlée and Dark Chocolate Clafoutis, both delicious and beautifully presented. With a couple of drinks each our bill was around £75 which we felt was good value for such nice food. Highly recommended.

This was a special occasion for us, our first date. I made this known to the staff when booking and they were exceptionally accommodating, even producing a special menu for my Paleo diet, nothing seemed too much trouble, the menu was varied and inviting and the food outstanding. We were treated as special by the staff who took our three and a half hour lunch in their stride. A special place to come for sure.

We came for lunch at the Green just after Christmas. It was only our second visit after a year because we live more than half an hour away but this really is a special restaurant. Everything about the Green is expert and yet understated. The food is as good as I have eaten anywhere in the UK - I include places like Raymond Blanc’s Manoir in Oxfordshire in that category. The staff know exactly what they are doing and, as always with the best service, you almost don’t notice it happening around you and in front of you. We had exquisite guinea fowl with braised red cabbage and an equally exquisite dessert. They cooked a piece of fish for our toddler daughter and despite the elegance of the restaurant and very fine food, we weren’t made to feel awkward for having a small child with us and were charming in every way. In fact a family with a toddler and baby were also happily enjoying lunch there that day. The Green is somewhere you could enjoy a relaxed weekend or weekday lunch - just because - or somewhere that will make you feel special if you have an occasion to celebrate. Either way, you’ll be enjoying excellent food and wine served by an unduly modest and unassuming team. In a world of hospitality which often shouts loud but delivers little and in the most generic way, this is an accomplished and characterful gem to savour.

An excellent lunch in their wonderful private room. Jack and his team went above and beyond to make sure 11 fussy eaters all had a fantastic 3 course lunch. Great service and well priced. Couldn’t recommend it more. Made our special day extra special.

I very rarely if ever give a review score of 5. Saturday lunch was excellent. We chose the short (always a good sign) la carte menu as it was a special occasion and we could not find fault. Tables are decently spaced, the waiter was knowledgable and attentive without being overbearing and there was a good ambience in the room. We travelled from the S coast and had planned to make this visit the centrepiece of a day out but storm Dennis put paid to that and we went straight home afterwards. Looking forward to our next visit, in better weather.

My husband and I went to this restaurant recently and chose off their new Festive Menu, but it was rather limited, which also had about 4 choices from a previous 'set meal' we had only about 6 weeks ago, so were a bit disappointed. The food which we had was very nice, but we did have to wait around 45 mins inbetween the starter and main course, which we felt was excessive, especially as it wasn't that busy. We would go back again but probably not for a while, when, hopefully, there will new different menu. Service as usual was very good!

We had a really lovely evening at The Green with our two children (7&9). The food was delicious (the steak in particular was exceptional) and we were well looked after by kind and attentive staff. The were kids made to feel special with “VIP” menus and given the same pre-starter as us which was a lovely touch. The wines were also lovely and well matched for us by the staff. When the bill came we felt it was actually extremely good value for the quality of food and “top notch” service - as my daughter said! All in all highly recommended for a special evening out.

Fantastic restaurant with amazing food. My husband does not eat tomatoes and without asking they served him an alternate amuse bouche of fried squid rings. There was an emphasis on locally sourced food. All the cheese were from artisans nearby. My pot roasted chicken supreme was excellent and the petit fours with my coffee delicious.

We dined here at lunchtime on our way through to Devon. My partner had the crab Creme brûlée to start - unfortunately the burn topping overpowered the flavour of the crab. We both opted for the veal burger which was moist but not overly flavourful. The triple cooked chips were good though. Perhaps we just selected the wrong dishes. The staff were friendly and wore masks and the restaurant made every effort to socially distance the customers. I would try the restaurant again in the evening if we were nearby.

My partner and I had dinner here in April 2022 with friends. The three-course meal at £30 per head was outstanding: the fish and meat were cooked perfectly and full of flavour, the desserts were delicious without being overpoweringly sweet and there was a good selection of local cheeses served at just the right temperature. Staff were friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was pleasant, relaxed and smart at the same time. It was one of the best restaurant meals we’ve ever had and we would strongly recommend it.

We visited this lovely restaurant for lunch. At £23 for 3 courses it was amazing value and really fantastic food. Beautifully served and interesting flavours. Service was great too. The chocolate and cherry pudding is worth saving room for! They also made some smaller sized portions for our children which was much appreciated. If we were local we’d be regulars!

We had a wonderful evening dining at The Green. We also enjoyed the delicious amuse bouche. The starter, main and puddings were lovely and the wine was beautifully kept and stored - and the staff were attentive without being overly so. Thank you very much,.
